“The top envoys from nearly all of America’s 260 embassies, consulates and other posts in more than 180 countries will be gathering at the State Department beginning on Monday.

Warren Zevon makes good background music for this thread.

More likely she will be named VP (Biden moved out of the way) so she can take O’s second term. He’s finishing up with the plundering of this nation & creating chaos. Time to move on to the international scene.

Exactly. Clinton and Obama are trying to take a high road after failure.

“She has thyroid problems.... bulging eyes are the giveaway. She must be taking thyroid medications but has a hard time adjusting them. It’s scrubbed now from internet but a thyroid doctor used to have something about Hillary”

Yeah, I’d thought her problem was thyroid too.

Bulging eyes is a symptom of autoimmune hyperthyroidism, Graves Disease, or in a small percentage of cases autoimmune hypothyroidism. Treatment options in Graves or other autoimmune hyperthyroidism are grim. There’s a couple of oral meds that can block the excess thyroid, but they are toxic and make most people nauseous. Radioactive iodine to destroy excess thyroid tissue can work, but if it fails to destroy enough thyroid tissue or the tissue regrows, then you’re screwed because you can’t take radioactive iodine a second time.

If it does work, then you’re going to be hypothyroid and have to take thyroid compound, and it’s a real bitch-kitty to adjust these meds because the common med is T4, which is inactive until converted by the liver or kidneys into T3. T4 has a half life of 7-10 days, so it is extremely difficult to adjust. You get too much and it’s a nightmare of over-stimulation until the stuff gets used up over a period of days. If you wait too long to restart a new lower dose after that, then you go into low energy mode again. So it’s a terrible roller-coaster ride with the result of the dose not known until about 7-10 days later. So the clinical picture always lags way behind the dose change.

Additionally, if you’ve also got liver problems, then the T4 won’t convert and you have to take the T3 directly. Though T3 has a very short half-life, there’s no offical time-release version and when you take it, it all absorbs right away and it hits you like a dose of bad speed.

Also, thyroiditis is very frequently associated with a bevy of other autoimmune disorders such as pernicious anemia, gluten autoimmune allergy, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Lupus, and others. I read in one place that 50% of people with thyroiditis also have Sjogren’s Syndrome (I happen to have thryoiditis, Sjogren’s, pernicious anemia, and gluten autoimmune allery.)

Sjogren’s is particularly tough as there is no “official” remedy, though knowledgeable doctors know that a treatment called low dose Naloxone (LDN) can work miracles. Furthermore, Sjogren’s is far more than just dry eyes and dry mouth. There’s a whole bevy of other symptoms that can be debilitating.

If I see anything I’ll ping you. Mainly what I am noticing is related to food/energy. Lot’s of talk though from China/others about our dollar and global governance.

I’m saying she’ll never have to compete for it. He’ll resign leaving her to walk into the role & the convention by acclamation for his second term. And, no - I don’t think a single GOPer could defeat her. The American electorate is just that deluded.

I would be inclined to defer to your experience on the firing lines and include girding loins for budget battles to be a plausible explanation.

However, one wonders if the care and feeding of this institution ranks high on the list of an administration currently preoccupied with reelection, the economy- especially jobs, the revelations from wikileaks, and the turmoil in the Middle East. I can imagine that the turmoil in the Middle East captures the attention of Obama but I would be quite surprised if he stays awake nights contriving to fund the Department of State and opposition to those pesky Republicans.

The State Department has been a rogue institution relative to Republican administrations and there might be a real fear that even the Democrats can lose control. Or the administration might be contemplating some dramatic shift to the left and feel they cannot count on whatever minority of patriots who might be left in the Department of State to remain silent. They might fear more leaks. More likely, they have more to fear from their own left.

My instinctive reaction is to say that these people do nothing for patriotic ends, my reaction is to say they calculate everything and play politics with America's security and national interests. We know that their candidate for president, John Kerry, has done so and we know that there would be candidate for president, Sen. Kennedy, has done so. I doubt if they are loading up their plate with such a meeting merely to strategize over budget battles when they have so many other matters to contend with . Maybe so. More likely they are strategizing over something that you and I will not like. If it is only a previously scheduled quadrennial review, it will nonetheless mark a sharp left turn.

Even in the 1960’s, State employees posed the biggest potential of damaging leaks and compromise of secure communications.

One can only imagine how bad State is now with 2 years of Shrill, Obama and Holder in charge.

“None of the COMS to the ambassadors are secure enough to give out the marching orders and policy changes, without them leaking. This is transparent government at its best/S/.Americans in their ignorance, are being led like sheep to the slaughter. Our tradtional allies are about to be abandoned. (Say good bye to NATO.Bye bye, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. The American left is throwing you to the dogs.) Our newest allies will be nations who forward the World Wide Caliphate, with whom Obama will later declare an alliance.”

The State Department has a long history of questionable policies: Take a look at their choices during WWII. Just catastrophic in several cases.

Food staples starting to run out in Egypt

grain futures prices have been trending upwards over the last few months. Places like China, India, etc have large peasant populations whose major living expense is food.

This can get REALLY ugly later this year if the current hard winter in the US delays planting season in the spring and results in a lower harvest in the fall.

There is no doubt some FSO's may "go native," but I have never known of a instance where anyone I worked with tried to knowingly undercut US interests. During my 28 years, I was posted over 20 years overseas.

The dirty little secret is that the State Department is just the storefront operation when it comes to foreign policy. The NSC, DOD, and the intelligence agencies have more sway than the State Department when it comes to formulating policy. Two thirds of the American staff at our diplomatic missions abroad are from other agencies.
