A physics teacher in high school once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American.

Good idea .... one light bulb at a time ....

A while back I had to change out the flexplate on my son’s car after he had a mechanic replace the engine. An externally balanced 454 was put in to replace an internally balanced motor and the mechanic just used the orig. unbalanced flexplate. So I wanted new bolts. I went to 2 speed shops and 3 auto parts stores. All of them only had chinese bolts to sell me.

I ended up buying a box of 50 American made bolts from Mcmaster for cheaper than the blisterpack of chinese junk.

Hi LucyT, I noticed you are avoiding the HF cornsyryp and thought you might be interested in my new favorite books that help us do just that.

Have you heard of the “Eat This Not That” series of books?

I found them 2 weeks ago and now I take the “Supermarket Survival Guide, Eat This Not That” to the store with me in my purse. It is amazing the crud that is in our food supply. Now I can more easily avoid the usual suspects in our foods.

The restaurant survival guide book is also excellent (”Restaurant Survival Guide, Eat This Not That). I don’t eat out much, but still, I will use that book when I do.

They are cheap books at Amazon (12 bucks) or $20 at bookstores, measure 7 by 7 inches and tuck into most purses.

Thanks for your pings!

Cancer cells thrive on HF corn syrup.

Several weeks ago there was an article in a science magazine, unable to locate it without alot of searching, so here is the gist from another online news source:

"...the finding, published in the journal Cancer Research, may help explain other studies that have linked fructose intake with pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest cancer types.

"These findings show that cancer cells can readily metabolize fructose to increase proliferation," Dr. Anthony Heaney of UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center and colleagues wrote.

"They have major significance for cancer patients given dietary refined fructose consumption, and indicate that efforts to reduce refined fructose intake or inhibit fructose-mediated actions may disrupt cancer growth."

Forgot to mention, they are renaming it so we won't know it is HF Corn Syrup. Don't know the new name.

As comforting as it is to buy products "Made in the USA," which I do, I often wonder where the contributing food/grain/juice products are from that are used in the production of the product. There really is no truth in the label as long as some or all ingredients come from nations where standards are minimal, lax or nonexistent.

I had several weird posts to me today as well, even from old timers.

I have refused for years to buy Tyson chicken because they employ illegals. Same goes for Smithfield hams and Paula Deen, who is their spokesperson, is off my list. There are also "made in USA" products which are managed by foreign countries or questionable characters so you have to make sure you know who you're dealing with rather than relying on a label. Just yesterday I found out a friend had bought a product on the internet which turned out to be a scam and was declared a scam by the BBB. Even though the home page had "made in the USA", everyone he spoke to was some middle easterner.
