Canada, U.S. agree to use each other’s troops in civil emergencies
By Ottawa Citizen ^ | February 22, 2008

Canada and the U.S. signed an agreement that paves the way for either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency. Some question why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

The U.S. Northern Command publicized the agreement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which campaigns against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, raises concerns about the deal.

“It’s kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites,” said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

Trew said the agreement could militarize civilian responses to emergency incidents. Work is also underway for the two nations to put in place a joint plan to protect common infrastructure such as roadways and oil pipelines.

“Are we going to see (U.S.) troops on our soil for minor potential threats to a pipeline or a road?” he asked.

Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command so there are questions about who controls American forces if posted in Canada. “We don’t know the answers because the government doesn’t want to even announce the plan,” he said.

I am sure the Canadian military will be very polite when they come to confiscate your guns during a “national emergency” ...

I respect people in the uniform of the US military. I would follow their instructions until such time as I receive solid evidence that they are oppressive and tyrannical. I don't trust my government, but I do trust the US military.

But other military uniforms? Folks in blue helmets? I believe that agents of any invading army should be shot on sight.

Why leave the Mexican military out of this great deal?

Not sure I like this idea one bit!!

Nor do I. Zero knows that our troops won't fire on their own families but hopes that the Kanuks will and visa versa. Very dictatorial of him. Very Kahdhafi of him. Bringing foreign troops into this country could actually start a War...right here between the two countries. It is absolutely midievil thinking. Then he'd have to marry one of his daughters off to a Canadien/Canadian ruler to insure the peace. Madness prevails in the District.

OK frogs! How hot is the water now? Not quite boiling yet?

Our govt has now opened the way to use foreign military to quell whatever "The Government" deems to be civil unrest. And just what will "they" deem to be civil unrest that would warrant the use of foreign troops?

Is there anything about this that doesn't scare the crap out of anyone?

During a crisis there is no question about whether or not there will be an attempt to eradicate the U.S. and our Constitution. And this development is part of that.

Alarm bells should be ringing right now: "Fire! Foe! Fear!"

And anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Given the way things are now days, will we be able to keep the Republic? Has the Republic run its course and now things are set to change? Are we in the twilight of our Constitutional Republic, is the American Experiment coming to an end? Have we as a people been weighed in the balance and been found wanting? Is our erstwhile form of government no longer suitable for our nation? The world? I have no doubt that a large part of our population may agree - not that they'd ever have any independent thoughts on this matter, just what they are told to think via the entertainment/media/academic/government complex. And I have no doubt that our political leaders - left and right - have the globalist point of view that the time is past for Republics such as ours was. So which side of history are we on? Does anyone think that because of the endemic racism and national chauvinism (among other ills) that radical change is necessary in order to achieve fraternity, equality, and liberty? Or does anyone think that those watchwords of the French Revolution were not the watchwords of the American Revolution, and that they have no place here?

This is the camel’s nose under the tent. If Canadians, why not Mexicans or Russians or anyone else for that matter. I like Canadians but this is a very bad precident.

This is the nose under the tent. Right now, it’s just Canadian troops. But what happens when it’s the Mexican Army? Or the Chinese? If foreign troops can freely — indeed by invitation — occupy American soil, where does it stop, and how do we retain any measure of sovereignty?

This is an abomination and must be overthrown. No good can possibly come from it.

My theory is if we see Armed troops in our area and they aren't U.S. Military then logic tells me they are an invading force and need to be dealt with accordingly.

I don’t fear Canadian soldiers but I prefer they stay on their side of the fence.

I demand they stay on their side of the border.

When it comes time to disarm America, do you think American soldiers will do this? Canadians will enter your home using inhumane tactics and kill as needed to disarm you.

This is BS and time for IMPEACHMENT.

” No good can possibly come from it. “

If the Obama Regime can send in OfA organizers and out-of-state union thugs to ‘whip the Wisconsin Government back into line’ - it’s only a short step - a mere difference in degree - to using even stronger measures on a state that’s *really* out-of-control — say, Arizona??

According to the article, the agreement was signed by Gen. Gene Renuart. How does he have the authority to sign such an agreement?

I don’t fear our military at all. I’ve lost 5 very close friends to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, my cousin and her husband were both MPs in Kabul, my best friend from HS is a Lt. in Baghdad, and my 57 year old uncle is a consultant for the Army in Germany. Not a single one of them ever conveyed a sense of necessity to quell a domestic uprising and are proud to fight FOR America. I can tell you with near 100% certainty that not a single one of them would ever turn a gun on an innocent American citizen, CinC be damned!

That being said, the despondence of a lot of folks on the boards and in public concerning the escalating violence in America is growing troublesome. It almost sounds as if, despite our best efforts to be prepared, all preparations will be futile and we’d be better off putting a 7.62x39 through our temple. I’m sad, but I’m not prepared to lay down my arms or my life for communists.

This way they can do things like round up guns or people without breaking US law, and later it will extend to Mexican as well as other troops.

***************************************

It would also be present a tougher psychological barrier for many Americans to ambush and massacre a Canadian occupation unit than, say, a Syrian or Indonesian or Nicaraguan one.

Initially, anyway.
