Michael Gough, the British star best known for playing butler Alfred Pennyworth during director Tim Burton's time helming the crime-fighting films from 1989 to 1997, has died.

He was 94.

Gough's first and second venture into the cave was alongside Michael Keaton in "Batman" and "Batman Returns."

Michael reprised his role in "Batman Forever," with Val Kilmer as his master, then again in "Batman & Robin" opposite George Clooney.

He worked alongside Burton on a number of his other films, including "Corpse Bride," "Sleepy Hollow" and the "Alice In Wonderland" remake.

Defying his years, Gough continued to work up until this year and voiced a character in animation "All-Star Superman."

He starred in over 150 TV shows and films throughout his career, including "Doctor Who" twice where he starred as "The Celestial Toymaker" and a "Time Lord Councillor."

He is survived by his fourth wife Henrietta and two children from previous marriages.

His first credit in the IMDB is 1946. He’s one of those marvelous British working actors who has been around forever. What a career. Hopefully, the Batman franchise gave him a very comfortable retirement.

But I'm an oldster who was a kid in the sixties. The Green Hornet was cool and Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryaken had the coolest guns on Man From Uncle.

I thought he looked familiar! Looking at his IMDB listing, I see he appeared in several TV shows we’ve enjoyed, over the years, including the George C. Scott version of “A Christmas Carol”, and the mini-series, “Smiley’s People”, which was a sequel to “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, starring another favorite of ours, Alec Guiness.

Connery played an uncredited part as a deckhand and Desmond Llewelyn (Q) also had an uncredited part along with Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay from “Bewitched”), who would go on to appear in the “Titanic” film nearly 40 years later. Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore in “Goldfinger”) was also in it in a larger role.
