Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a military lawyer, is the first member of Congress to say the legislature needs to explore the possibility, however unlikely, of limiting some kinds of free speech - like Terry Jones' Quran burning - that help America's enemies.
"I wish we could find a way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we're in a war," he told CBS's Bob Schieffer on "Face the Nation."
"During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy," Graham said, adding that he wanted to do "anything we can to push back here in America against acts like this that put our troops at risk."

He did? DOZENS? Really? Maybe our ROE gets the troops kille.
They both do. If you wish to defend this moron’s actions, have at it. I’ve said he has the “right” to do what he did. But there is NO MISTAKING the FACT that his action caused a backlash that cost many of our troops their LIVES. I’m not excusing the ROE. Are you excusing this fool’s rash actions?
Wilson probably did it too, and then there were the internments.
Somebody told me, don’t know if it’s true, that the attrition rate was about 50% for the Nazis—if you killed half of a squad, the rest would more than likely give up. With the Japs, it was more like 80-85-90%. They would never quit. You had to kill them all.
They are a wholly owned subsidiary of the House of Saud. There’s no other explanation that passes Ockham’’s Razor.
Now that I think about it, part of the government was in the business of creating offensive, mocking, insulting images for propaganda purposes. I’m thinking of the classic yellow nip with the buck teeth and coke bottle glasses.
True. And today, those propaganda images are created in the minds of the public by government and media in a constant barrage describing “Evil right wing bible thumpers” “Bitter clingers” “Tea Partiers” and such.
Rather than the actual enemy.
What’s wrong with this picture?
Seems to me he did us a service. Want to find the enemy? He’s out there looting and rampaging and killing.
So if you are a tyrant and our free speech bothers you, Graham is eager and ready make an accomodation and outlaw free speech -- or any of the other first ten ammendments you've got a beef with.
Yes, we're at war. We need men with good stiff spines. Graham doesn't have one.
“Now that I think about it, part of the government was in the business of creating offensive, mocking, insulting images for propaganda purposes. Im thinking of the classic yellow nip with the buck teeth and coke bottle glasses.”
That was my point, our government was (rightfully) trying to whip us up for a VERY TOUGH fight.
...and guess what. We didn’t care if it hurt the feelings of Japanese on EITHER SIDE of the ocean. We had a war to win first.
It is past time that we got the Hell out of Afghanistan and Iraq and Libya and every other Islamic hell hole on this planet and leave them all to rot in their demonic religious societies.
The Military burned Holy Bibles because they didnt want to offend Muslims. Now we want to surrender our domestic liberty in order that we don’t offend Muslims on the other side of the freaking planet. Damn them all! Damn them all to Hell! And damn you too, Lindsey Graham.
Maybe, but I’m wondering myself whether means testing for SS would be such a bad idea (the “trust fund” is a joke anyway).
Grahamnesty is a disgrace. 2014 can’t come soon enough. I sure hope the South Carolina GOP can find a credible, conservative candidate to challenge this limpwrist and defeat him in the primary election in 2014.
“I wish we could find a way to hold people accountable.”
Yes, Lindsey, you and the other fools in Washington, DC need to be held accountable for a lot of things.
“During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy,” Graham said,”
Yes, Lindsey, we weren’t allowed to say anything that would get the Japanese and Germans mad at us while we were at war with them.
God help us with morons like this in Washington.
“During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy,”
What the heck does that mean? I don’t know of policy limits, but I can’t believe they would include “anything that might make our enemies ANGRY”! Now, seditious, yes, I could see that. But I don’t think they were worried about offending the enemies with all those Hitler and Hirohito caricatures!
‘.... he wanted to do “anything we can to push back here in America against acts like this that put our troops at risk.”’
This is becoming to me much as “it’s for the chiiillllldrren” drivel has become. Frankly, it’s no picnic anyway, Koran-disrespect or not. They are there already with “war” in mind. And Moslem scum didn’t see any comics or hear of any burnings/flushings to have 3000 INNOCENT CIVILIANS killed within the span of just 2 hours. Not 8 years; 2 hours.
We are at war but we can’t insult the enemy else they might get really really mad. Might want to stop the media like NY Times from reporting on so called American ‘atrocities’ which I’m sure have fueled Muslim rage more than Koran burnings.
I understand that the followers of this "church" number less than 50, sooooooo how does a country whose citizens can neither read nor write, that has no electricity most of the time, no clean water to drink, deliver supplies by donkeys, learn that a pastor in the U.S. burned the Koran?
These dudes came from Friday night "prayer" services to rampage to the UN site to "kill the infidels" and we're supposed to believe that they all learned about the deed from reading the New York Times????
