What Did the Republicans Get With the Budget Agreement?
Created 2011-04-09 00:49
Summary:
A compromise was reached on the 2011 Budget on Friday night. What did the Republicans gain and what did they lose in compromising with the Democrats?
Compromise in itself is a very major problem with Republicans. The Republicans have been compromising with the Left for decades, transforming the United States into a nation that has become progressively more Liberal and has accumulated a national debt greater than $14 trillion.
Compromise in itself is a very major problem with Republicans. The Republicans have been compromising with the Left for decades, transforming the United States into a nation that has become progressively more Liberal and has accumulated a national debt greater than $14 trillion.
Speaker of the House John Boehner settled for less than $40 billion in spending cuts from President Obamas 2011 budget. This is a lot of money, but less than the $61 billion in cuts that the voters had expected and demanded. The $1.65 trillion Obama is adding to our national debt this year is enormous and only slightly dented by the spending cuts. The current Republicans tell us the budget will not be balanced for quite some time.
Most of the Republican members of the House and the Senate who were first elected in 2010 were elected with the understanding that the Federal Budget would be cut significantly, ObamaCare would be fully defunded, and no more money would go to Planned Parenthood and NPR. Many Conservative voters will think that too much was given up by Speaker Boehner in reaching a compromise. Boehners great challenge will be to hold onto these voters and to regain their confidence for the 2012 elections.

I am going to use that sometime...
“If Boner was a ship captain he would be going in circles trying to head 370 degrees.”
If Boner was a ship captain the crew would plotting mutiny.
That swing vote is swayed by weakness too. If we have people unwilling to fight for what is right they may as well vote for the Party that will. The Dems won everything this time. Cry Bahner has to go.
Pray for America
The good news: They kept an additional $260.00 of debt from being added to every man, woman and child in the USA this year.
The Bad news: They added an additional $4545.00 of debt to every man, woman and child in the USA this year.
Numbers are approximate, of course.
In short, they caved.
great post. what pisses me off the most is Republicans don’t have the cojones to fight back and mention what you posted. It seems even the new Republican freshmen Senators and Congress critters, are cowards like the ones befiore them. They do NOT represent conservative Americans.
While it would dramatically reduce the scope of government, it wont save nearly as much as imagined. If we cut every Federal agency (including State, Treasury, Defense), Congress and the President, we would save about 2/3 of just the Defense Budget. Cutting the unnecessary agencies, from our prospective, would cut around 250 billion, which is great, but only 8% of the budget. Plus, without having the Senate or President, there is no way we can gut those agencies. There arent even enough limited govt libertarian types in Republican office in the House yet. The last time we had both houses and the President, we even created a new department.
I would love to see Homeland, Education, Energy, Transportation, HUD, HHS, Labor, Agriculture, and the Interior either completely be done away with or their roles be taken on by the States, where they belong. Then move Commerce into the Treasury and VA into Defense. But that is just not a political possibility right now. If we judge everything the House does on a distant end goal, then we will all get frustrated and let the Dems take over, because (at least we know they are going to do it.” The socialists didnt get America to where it is now all at once. They used incrementalism over more than 100 years. Some of the starters died before the results were known. That is the way back. Each Congress, take a little more from the Government.
As for reducing federal spending, the only meaningful reductions will come from the following places: SSI, Medicare/Medicaid, Defense, Interest. Those four budgets make up 70% of the entire Federal Spending. If we dont attack one of those, we wont cut much. The problem is, those are considered sacred cows and no one will touch them for cuts, because of the emotional response to it.
But we have to be outraged at not getting everything at once!!!
If you think this was a shame, lets go back to the beginning; the election of the first black (& irish) president of the US. How many folks out there that are complaining that this deal wasn’t good enough, actually helped put this man in office... folks that weren’t strong enough to resist the temptation to say that they voted for the first black president (wonder how may of those commemorative plates they’ve got left).
My point here is that, many who call themselves moderate, who actually vote more conservatively, and many independents helped ensconce this man as president, more so because he was black than any other reason. They didn’t care to examine his background or affiliations... their vote was to show the world that we’re not a racist nation, be damned. Now we have Obamacare and a debt which makes slaves of us all. You want to get our house in order, then you gotta drive the wooden stake deep into the heart of the vampirous leftist nation... when the vampire looks up at you with the stake in one and and a mallet in the other, what’s he going to see, resolve? or a tremble and a whimper.
This is a crock of HORSESHIT.
I expected cuts worthy in the face of a $3.6 Trillion Dollar Budget faced with a couple of trillion in deficits, alone!
I expected them to obliterate the hidden yearly $105 billion dollar implementation costs for Obama-Deathcare.!
I expected them to defund Cowboy Poets, Planned Parenthood, CPB, NOW, ACORN, and multiple other liberal wet dream entitlements.
They didn't hold the line; they clenched their teeth on Obama's shorts and sniffed his ass like a San Francisco liberal. I am disgusted with the Republicans. And, MY congressman is no more! I will give money to whoever opposes him.
“Numbers are approximate, of course.”
Give or take a few digits. Good post.
It's been a long time since I was in school but I seem to remember a famous case from the early years of our nation where it was decided that the federal government did not have the power to give tax dollars to victims of a disaster.
I don't CARE what the GOP got. I care what we AMERICANS got out of it.
For two years, the dems have been p*ssing on our heads and telling us that it is raining. We voted the Repubs in to slap the Dems pens.
Instead, the repubs are finding it easier to convince it really is raining and are joining in, telling us that it is a thunderstorm.
Beaner needs to step aside. We need a leader who will do a better job.
Repubbies got a "cut" of a measly, wimpish, 8/10 of one percent of the $3.8 trillion which is the amount the Obama administration says it was/is expected to spend this fiscal year. Maybe, sort of.....
But this is all smoke and mirrors because democrats intentionally did not pass a budget for 2011. That way there was no hard and fast defined spending forecast or budget amount alloted for the fiscal year. Any "cuts" are from an imaginary upper limit, so they really arent "cuts" at all.
And some of the real cuts that would have mattered were dropped by the Republiocans - items such as tho ongoing finance of Planned Parenthood and NPR are still in place.
Harry Reid was all in a lather yesterday about the potential cancellation of the Cherry Blossom Parade in DC and how it would disappoint visitors to the nations capital. This is the same guy who who despises “smelly” tourists and is on record saying so. What a collasal hypocrite.
Oh for crying out loud; did obama threaten to take away his tissue subsidy?
Dems have little to fear from the republicans and both parties apparently have little fear of We, the People.
Absolute power and all of that, doncha know.
Reid declared the deal "historic."
