Glenn Beck: Sarah Palin damaged her brand
Politico ^ | April12, 2011 | Andy Barr

Glenn Beck doesn’t see Sarah Palin running for president and said she has done some damage to her political brand.

Beck, a constant Palin cheerleader, said flatly on his radio show Monday, “Sarah Palin, I don’t think, wants to run for president.”

The outgoing Fox News personality has hosted Palin on his show several times – once for a full hour – and she has frequently lavished praise on him.

Still, even with all that good will, Beck was frank in assessing what Palin has done to hurt her own political stock – even though he credited her with surviving tough media coverage.

“There are some things about Sarah Palin,” he said, going on to suggest Palin made a mistake by selling her personal story in her first book after leaving the governor’s office, rather than demonstrating some policy credentials.

“She should have come out with that first book, and it should have been deep policy,” he said. “It should have shown that, yes, she knows where Russia is.”

“She didn’t help herself by doing some things to shore herself up,” Beck added.

Still, Beck predicted that Palin “wants to shape the debate,” though he sees her role as outside elective politics.

“I personally think she is on a smart path for the future to be able to hold people together,” Beck said. “It’s ideals that I think she is going for.”

I’ve read two of Palin’s books - “Going Rogue” and “America by Heart.” Both are excellent.

“Going Rogue” deals with her growing up personal life (personal philosophy, etc.),her experience as a politician (mayor, governor, etc.) and then her experience in what’s-his-name’s campaign for President. It was in that campaign that she was perceived as “going rogue,” as not being a puppet to masters in the McCain campaign. I see in Sarah’s “Going Rouge,”... her wholesome goodness.

“America by Heart” is about Sarah’s “Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag.” Sarah’s description of America and American ideals is wonderfully refreshing.

From those books, I’d say that Sarah Palin is Reagan style Presidential material.

Politico can single handedly get conservatives snarling at one another. No one presently really seems to think Palin is running. There is just no sign of interest, other than throwing bones to her base, she is utterly disengaged.

How did Beck ridicule Trump’s faith?

As each day moves along, the more Beck looks like a RINO at best.

going on to suggest Palin made a mistake by selling her personal story in her first book after leaving the governor’s office, rather than demonstrating some policy credentials.

I think any advantage Sarah might have gained by being a policy wonk over the past couple of years has always been greatly overrated. Maybe those who say that forget how long presidential primaries and campaigns now are.

She, or any other candidate, will have more than adequate time to prove or disprove their knowledge of the issues during the primary campaigns and debates which will run for about nine months, from this summer until next March or so. Then we'll have almost as many more months for the primary winners to further dazzle us with their knowledge.

Not sure what Sarah will do, but all this nonsense about her great need to show her stuff on policy the past two years is mostly something for those commentators who never stop thinking about politics to navel gaze about. All the eventual candidates have more than enough time and opportunities remaining to show us what they know, or don't know.

Hmmm. Has he said the same about Obama? HIS first book was an autobiography, NOT a policy tome, even though he was a politician, with national aspirations.

At the time Sarah wrote her book, she'd been through a national campaign, had seen herself and her family attacked for things that were simply NOT true, so she was looking to set the record straight. I certainly don't fault her for that.

Beck, in his recent chat with B. O., did not say that he is leaving Fox, breaking his ties with Fox. Actually, I heard quite the opposite, but possibly I dozed off for a moment.

Beck in another venue claimed that Fox handlers had gotten to impossible to work with. We got a taste of that here in Cincinnati when FOX cancelled a Hannity Appearance at a Tea Party event.

Ultimately though, the issue is that Saudi money has entered FOX, and Beck doesn't toe the line as far as they are concerned.

I remember that, during WW II the Japanese occupied Attu, which is on the end of that peninsula in Alaska. So I would think that this is the only spot in the United States that was occupied during the War. Wouldn’t that make any Alaskan more familiar with foreign policy, as in “we are vulnerable”. The US finally drove them out after about a year.

I think Beck tried very hard to maneuver himself into Palin’s inner circle in his attempts at self-aggrandizement. This may signal that he has finally accepted his failure in that effort. If so, it bodes well for Palin. In any case, Beck’s decision to say anything about it publicly reflects on him very very poorly.

Politico is probably going to hype this 'Beck disses Palin' story as long as it gets conservatives sniping at each other. Frankly, I'm not all that upset at Glenn Beck. He has a right to his opinion and I have a right to disagree with him and basically ignore him, as I intend to do. I don't think Glenn is a bad guy but I never saw him as a political genius, either. I don't think Beck understands politics half as well as Rush Limbaugh (who I occasionally disagree with). I support Sarah Palin based on her political and moral ideals, her performance while in office, her integrity, honesty and charisma, which is an attribute not to be dismissed when discussing political campaigns. Due to the endless attempts by the left to 'get something on Palin' (and utterly failing) she has been throughly vetted. Her frequent postings on Facebook, Twitter and her appearances on Fox News offer a good view of her opinions and her overall views, so I disagree with Glenn Beck on that point.

Sarah Palin's first book was her way of introducing herself to the American public. It was clearly not intended to be a boring policy-wonk treatise. Her second book was a broad outlook on where she wants to see our country go, written in a very personalized fashion. Again, not a policy-wonk's dream but readable and interesting. Apparently, Glenn Beck has other ideas about how Sarah Palin should present herself. That's his prerogative, of course and I'm sure the left is loving this but I simply disagree with Mr. Beck and will continue to support Sarah Palin unless or until she chooses not to run. However, I probably won't be all that interested in what Glenn Beck has to say about electoral politics from this point on because he has shown me that he is a bit lacking in political sophistication. However, I refuse to take the left's bait and demonize Glenn Beck because we part company on the validity of Sarah Palin as a presidential candidate. We simply disagree (not that Beck knows I'm alive).

I also think that those who seem to believe that Obama will be a formidable candidate for re-election are mistaken. I believe he is weak and can be beaten. His record is horrendous. People are deeply concerned about their future. His racial minority status won't pull him over the finish line, this time. Obama's 'historic' moment has passed and voters are getting serious. Sarah Palin, with her authenticity, common sense ideas and charisma can beat Obama. Whether she'll run or not remains to be seen but she'll have to decide, soon. Meanwhile, the trolls will prowl around FR looking for opportunities to criticize Palin and the folks who never seem to find anyone 'conservative' enough will do the same with the usual complaints about her leaving the Alaska governorship prematurely or whatever else bothers them, today. So be it. I believe Sarah Palin will endure and ultimately triumph.

As dangerous as he claims Obama is (and we know he is dangerous)... if Palin wins how can Beck be taken serious when he tries to pull for her in the general election?

He can't.

That is why Beck is being serious NOW even if it means stepping on the toes of the Sarah Palin Adoration Society.

Sarah Palin's poll numbers are ABSOLUTELY TOXIC for a general election.

Why would anybody that fears Obama, like I do, be crazy enough to want a candidate such as Sarah Palin running against Obama when SEVENTY TWO PERCENT (72%) of ALL voters believes that Sarah Palin would NOT be a good President?

Such insanity is handing Barack Hussein Obama reelection on a silver platter. That is why I am so against the irrational Sarah Palin Cult of Personality.

A vote for Sarah Palin in the Republican primaries is a vote to reelect Barack Hussein Obama in November of 2012.

And will he have credibility with his republican listeners?

Since when did the unquestioning worship of Sarah Palin define somebody as a Republican?

According to the February FOX NEWS Poll, FIFTY SIX PERCENT (56%) of REPUBLICAN voters believes that Sarah Palin would NOT be a good President.

FOX News Poll (February 7-9, 2011)

Question 3: I am going to read you a list of names. Tell me if you think that person would make a good President or not.

Sarah Palin:

.................YES.........NO.......DK.....Never heard of

ALL...........23%.......72%.........4%.......1%

Dem ...........7%........87%........5%.......1%

Rep ...........40%.......56%.......3%.......1%

Ind ...........25%........69%.......3%.......1%

Yeh I was in the car listening when Beck started trashing Trump’s interview on the 700 club. This from a guy who believes Joseph Smith found tablets with the word of God that only he could read through special magic glasses. I think thats called a cult Glenn. Yakking about the rapture on your TV show isn’t creepy or anything. Trumps’ a Presbyterian. Gee, who seems more credible?

I don’t think Sarah Palin is going to run for President either but I have always kind of gotten that Beck is jealous or something of Palin. He has said some pretty snarky things about her. If he keeps it up Beck is going to ruin his own brand. I think a lot of folks probably did not appreciate Glenn’s radio show today.

Beck's betrayal is particularly galling since she backed him and his rally when everyone else in the DC GOP was mocking him.

And if he wanted to extend all this free advice to her, then why didn't he quietly email her since he has her private email address?

With E-Mails, Palin and Beck Discuss the Arizona Shootings

I bet she's wondering right now exactly who she CAN trust...and the answer is not many.

Glenn may have jumped the shark.

He doesn't seem to want to elaborate on what exactly caused the abrupt end to his FOX Cable TV show.

He also seems very insistent that the only real candidate is Christie, the Governor of NJ.

Maybe he'll next go on tour with Charlie Sheen.
