BIGGEST REASON TO DONATE:
It WILL go away if you do not and then WHAT OTHER SITE will allow all the vanities, rants, duplicate threads, blog pimping, end times posts, UFO posts, food & recipes posts, coupon posts, I Need FReeper Help posts, dog & cat posts, religion posts etc.?
I’m not saying I don’t like those, that I haven’t used those or posted on them or that I have a problem with any of those BUT most other sites are very strict about sticking within the parameters of the subject matter and we have A LOT of freedom here! Here if it’s in good taste (even not quite in good taste) and doesn’t break copyright laws you’re pretty much allowed to post it.
I know many people have financial problems now, some don’t have jobs, some have kids moving back in that don’t have jobs and that is absolutely understandable! My heart breaks for people that find themselves in tough straits during this lousy economy. If I could help every single person I would. As it is both my husband and I do donate to a lot of local and national charities but that’s neither here nor there - just know that I feel for all of you and I wish I could do something for everyone.
THAT SAID and this is purely RANT and not something SANCTIONED OR APPROVED by Jim Rob, but here goes:
There are a LOT of people that come here first thing in the morning, often during the day and last thing at night. If you turn to FR for your news and for the information that we all get here, you should be offering something monthly, even if it’s $5 a month.
I’m not being mean but $5 a month is 1 pack of cigarettes, 1 lunch off the dollar menu at a fast food restaurant, 1 game of bowling or 1/2 of a movie ticket (at least where I live).
There’s no way you can kick in $5 a month if you love this site and use it daily, maybe even hourly??? Why don’t you start asking yourself what this site means to you?
As for those that have a million picky reasons not to donate such as there are too many Palin Derangement Syndrome people here or too many Religious threads here or I don’t like so & so or whatever - take a good long hard look at yourself and ask what you’d do if there was a monthly charge to log on here.
Would you leave? If you would can you duplicate the breadth of information that you get here? What other site on the entire internet even gets CLOSE to what is offered here?
I think all of us need to think about what FR means to us and examine that when deciding what to donate.
IN ADDITION TO WHAT I’VE ALREADY DONE, TO APOLOGIZE TO JIM FOR THIS RANT, I WILL DONATE ANOTHER $10 FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHLIES THAT SIGN UP. This is in my hubby’s name because he joined to take advantage of the Cooking Threads - mtman55 is my hubby so this is for him and for putting up with me for 31 years.
Thank you very much Jim for the site, the love, the caring and the leeway. I love you and thank you for what you give us. I love this site for allowing me to meet such wonderful people and for many other reasons.

I wish that more FReepers would give a few bucks to keep our community open. Hundreds of thousands of hits a day... and a dollar here and a dollar there would really make a difference. Not enough seem to be standing up and doing the Right thing so... even though I have already sent my usual $100.00 in for each fundraiser held and received your note of thanks... I will send another $50.00 in tomorrow. I can't afford it but I can't afford for FR to falter. Maybe someone will read this and say, “Heck... I can give five bucks" (or whatever they can afford).
