Gingrich Backs Obamacare's Individual Mandate

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday that he strongly supports a federal mandate requiring citizens to buy health insurance – a position that has been rejected by many Republicans, including several who likely will be running against him for the Republican presidential nomination.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Gingrich told host David Gregory that he continues to advocate for a plan he first called for in the early 1990s as a Congressman, which requires every uninsured citizen to purchase or acquire health insurance.

I’ve heard enough “talk” from asshole politicians who want to toss our freedoms out the window.

I don’t want this jackass anywhere near any “debate”. I want him to step out of the picture and let someone who actually properly comprehends the constitution to debate others who properly comprehend the constitution.

Well, that was fast. I thought Newtie would at least get through the First round of Jeopardy before pouring gasoline on himself and lighting a bonfire. “I’ll take Sucking Up To Obamacare for $1,000, Alex” was not the smartest choice.

During the MTP interview, Gingrich interrupted Gregory with this:

Gingrich to Gregory: "... but let me talk about ME ..."

I’m not supporting Newt, but let’s not distort what he said. He isn’t exactly backing obamacare. Not even close.

No. But he's backing one of the most egregiously unconstitutional aspects of it.

And the odd thing is, I don't recall his backing this approach back in 1992-94.

It's as if he has independently decided to "take the middle ground" and "try to make government work" -- when none of his constituents want it to "work" in this fashion.

From the time of his announcement, it only took Newt -- what, 72 hours? -- to prove he was unqualified.

Newt and HIllary have seen eye to eye on the (unconstitutional) individual mandate for two decades now. ....and probably a lot longer. He’s done. And so is Romney.

YOU wait for it. This morning he called Paul Ryan an extremist and a right-wing radical knowing full well what effect that would have on Ryan’s expected candidacy just days before Ryan will announce whether he is running for the senate. newt is long, long gone.
He is so far out of it that whatever he EVER did that was Conservative has disappeared from the political landscape, and so should he.

That is what it is....the goons blackmail anyone who goes against their Marxist agenda and destroy them unless they change their positions......... The only way this doesn’t happen is if they can get NO dirt on the person....Newt was easy prey.....Rush L. was not quite as easy.....McCarthy left himself wide open with alcoholism....Whittaker Chambers would have been completely obliterated if it wasn’t for the microfilm in the pumpkin patch.......

The Commies do the Alinsky on everyone who doesn’t swallow the koolaide...and the only ones who are immune are very, very rare. You can even make good people look awful when the mainstream media lies and is nothing but agitprop.

They have been doing this since the Federal Reserve was founded and they have completely controlled the press and magazines and Foundations and through that all education except the Christian schools. Even those have been destroyed with Marxist ideology to a large extent—especially the Liberation Theology schools which are nothing but “demonic” Marxism.

LOL...you got it. At the rate these “1st-tier” losers are self-immolating, Palin may adopt the Reagan strategy and not announce until November. The frugal momma grizzly, saving her dough for the real opposition — Zerobama and his commie minions.

Since he is a “jackass” in your view, tell me how you determine the one that defeats Obama. (It’s long division, BTW)

IF there is a defense of this, is he saying everyone should have to pay for THEIR OWN health care? And that you have to either have insurance or promise to pay something for care?

That would be a lot better than saying we all have an obligation to collectively pay for everyone else’s health care, which it sure sounded like he said.

The article can distort however it wants. Even before Obamacare, everyone had insurance. Just show up in an emergency room. I won’t vote for Newt simply because of his commercials with Pelosi, but healthcare is going to be a major debate so we need to hear more in depth from the candidates. David Gregory was more interested in making Newt look like a racist, which foreshadows what the press will try to make next year about. But Newt did start to lay out a few options different from Obamacare even though Gregory wasnt’ interested.

Newt was once a champion of conservatism.

I wonder what happened to him that turned him into a commie...

I don’t have to worry. FReepers said 4 years of Obama leads to his demise. I sure as hell don’t have to pull those threads up do I?

Considering the makeup of our current voters, Obama will not easily be beaten by anyone, but many believe that anyone is better than Obama, even a RINO, and I disagree with that misguided sentiment.

In any case, I want conservative candidates who respect the Constitution in any debate for the Republican nomination, and Gingrich just proved he is unworthy of the invite to any debate, IMO.
