Obama's bodyguard to run for the Republicans
Edmonton Journal ^ | June 9, 2011 | Alex Spillius

Posted on 06/10/2011 8:13:20 AM PDT by Bed_Zeppelin

A former Secret Service agent prepared to put his life on the line to protect Barack Obama has quit to stand as a Republican against the U.S. president's Democratic Party.

Daniel Bongino has caused eyebrows to be raised in the famously private and apolitical agency with his bid to represent Maryland in the Senate.

After spending 12 years protecting presidents, candidates, and world leaders, including George W Bush, he shadowed Mr Obama for nearly two years and was frequently by his side as the president met the public. He was also the lead agent co-ordinating Mr Obama's trips to Prague, Jakarta and Afghanistan.

Guarding U.S. presidents is regarded as the highest honour in the Secret Service, and agents are trained to throw themselves between a gunman and the president in any assassination attempt.

It is exceptionally rare for a member of the agency to follow a political career.

Mr Bongino, who was brought up in New York, is a conservative, Tea Party type of Republican. He resigned five months ago and now aims to capture a Senate seat from the Democrats for the first time in Maryland since 1987.

He said that his only differences with the president were ideological.

"I just don't agree with the way the country is going. We have got to get government out of the way," he said, adding that the president had always treated him well. The Secret Service declined to comment.

Thanks for taking the time to post that. Just what I would have guessed. It's very telling...how you treat those who work for you. Says so much about character and decency.

I know in my gut that the Obama’s have a great deal of disdain for the military/police. I am shocked that Americans voted this man into the Presidency. Sickened by it, actually.

If we could only trade Philadelphia for the Maryland panhandle, we’d love to have you here!

But will he? Republicans seem to be more honorable when keeping confidences; however, if it means what he could tell could help the nation and he’s been privy to treasonous acts, then it is his duty as an American, to tell everything.

I think that is absolutely true.
I have a baby boomer friend whose teen daughter falls in love with some different guy at least every month, always on the basis of looks, then gets disappointed when the good character is missing. Geez, just try observing how he/she treats servers the first time you go out! Can’t hurt, might be helpful info if the person changes their behavior based on social status.

Secret Service agents are professionals and follow the call of duty regardless of their political preferences, or those of the POTUS they protect.

Bwahaha! The Secret Service would piss on that little pothead punk’s application.

I've met some Secret Service members. They are NOT stupid. I doubt Al "Flunked out of Divinity School" Gore would meet their educational requirements.

Buy Progresso, take off the label, write “not halal,” mail to Campbell’s soup company.)
Saw this and wondered what it was all about? I missed something.

So true ! My 12 year old, I remark to him that people who do low paying jobs like cleaning toilets deserve as much respect as a person doing a high paid job if not more.

> The best advice you could give a teenager is that, when choosing a significant other, they should watch how the person treats the “hired help.”

“...I am sure he has a non-disclosure in place so no secrets....”

Hmmm, all he has to do is to declare he’s a dim-bulb-crat for a while. During that time he can reveal all secrets, go into classified areas and stuff secret documents in his pants, copy files onto his thumb drive, and reveal them all to the MSM.

However, if he’s a patriot (e.g., a conservative), he cannot do any of these things. After all, we’ve got to play by the rules, and the MSM will make sure we do.

I thought it was illegal for Republicans to hold public office in Maryland...

When Reagan said that, MOST of the “boys” over 21 were REAL MEN!!! Today MOST are still boys, playing with their little games and marrying very late or not at all.

I’m talking about the gubernatorial campaign vs. O’Malley.

Then you are not paying attention - Steele was running for Senate in 2006 and WAS NOT Ehrlich's running mate in the gubernatorial campaign against O'Malley; Ehrlich's running mate vs. O'Malley was Kristen Cox. The only gubernatorial campaign Steele was in was when he was Bob Ehrlich's running mate in 2002 and they defeated democrat Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.

It's hard to take your statements about Steele seriously when you knock him for losing an election he didn't even run in! I ALWAYS lose those!

Yeah, I guess I got confused a bit, didn’t I? I could try to say the fact that I couldn’t even remember which doomed campaign was which just points out how bad they both were, but I probably ought to just own up to messing up instead.

Nonetheless, despite having the campaign wrong, my recollection of it being an utter fiasco is still correct. Remember the “Steele Democrat” bumper stickers that were designed to give the false impression that Steele was a Democrat? And against a total stiff like Cardin, he still lost 55-44 (according to Wikipedia, and on a strictly objective piece of info like that, I’ll trust them).

Nor did his tenure as GOP Chairman indicate any type of political prowess.

The Islamic Society of North America is an unindicted co-conspiritor in the Holy Land Foundation trial. They also gave Campbell soup of Canada their imprimatur that Campbell soups are “halal.” That Campbell soup would go to ISNA for their “allu akbar” gives the ISNA, a Hamas terrorist front group, an imprimature by a major corporation. I do not buy Campbell soup for that reason, but how will they know this if I don’t send them proof, by way of Progresso lables?

That first became obvious to me when clinton’s squalor took the “W”s off the computers and trashed our White House. I wish we had the names so they could have been arrested for vandalizing. But, since then, they don’t even try to hide their low class attitude. No wonder they love being democrats - nothing worthy is expected from them. The only way is up from where they are, but they never seem to take the ride.
