President Barack Obama was incredibly irresponsible to criticize Congress for inaction when he is doing virtually nothing to help solve the debt crisis, conservative darling Sen. Jim DeMint tells Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.
But GOP members would go along with Obama and vote to raise the debt limit if they knew they never would be asked again, DeMint said.
Republicans would help the president if it is the last time we ever have to raise this debt ceiling, the junior senator from South Carolina said.
If we get a balanced budget amendment and serious cuts, well work with the president, but not if his idea is just raising gas prices and raising taxes and just nominally cutting spending. Weve got to send a lot of functions back to the states that we cant afford to do well in Washington and we need to be serious.

Gee, DeMint is Charlie Brown, come to life.
Here it comes, the cave in and subsequent pulling away of the football right before the kick..
Lying bastards.
First, taxes are now called “fees”.
Then there is budget cut, after all.
DeMint has betrayed us to stay elected.
Pres. George H.W.Bush trusted the Democrats to work with him on balancing the federal budget when he broke his promise, “Read my lips - no new taxes”.
The Democrats stabbed him in the back. There is no compromising with Democrats as they are all liars and cheats.
Learn from the past, Senator DeMint. Don’t trust the Democrats.
We as a whole Jim are "giving outed" to the point of losing all faith in the word Conservative Republican.
Sorry Jim but I don't think I stand alone in saying this is that LAST straw and support for giving in will no longer be an agenda deemed worthy of supporting.
'Nuff is enough and being the loser is no longer an accepted agenda.
Battle lines are being drawn....
This is political theatre, that’s all.
Democrats won’t ask again because, by then, they’ll expect that Dictator Obama can simply decree it.
Well said and 100% accurate.
Before throwing Demint under the bus, you should read the linked article. He says (in effect) that to insure that Congress is never asked again, that the President should embrace “cut, cap, and balance.” It is the same thing, with a different statement of hyperbole that he has been stating for weeks.
Demint remains a patriot in my eyes.
Please read article, it is not too long, and has small words, before judging him.

How is saying we will raise the debt limit if you agree to cuts a betrayal? ??? If the republicans do not play lip service they will lose the whole deal . Besides the senate likes to talk, why hell they could be talking about for a year are two.
The GOP focus on the deficit, rather than on economic growth (via tax cutting, fewer regulations, and trade agreements) and spending cuts, has given the Democrats the perfect excuse to call for cutting the deficit by raising taxes. By following Eisenhower rather than Reagan, the Republicans are going to end-up being the tax collectors for the Democrats’ spending programs.
Republicans...so stupid...never seem to get they need to educate with a spokesperson even the definition of taxes, how they affect small businesses, the good about businesses do in this country...Dems /commies/socialists are winning the education game with their help from the MSM...our side never gets it. They’re just so tone deaf. They ought to hire Steve Forbes for just this task.
What an idiotic and uninformed comment.

Great Idea DeMint~!
Just make sure they REALLY REALLY promise this time they will never ever EVER do it again.
And no takesy-backsies or crossed fingers.
