Federal agents investigate after a disruption on an international flight from Chicago to Germany that was diverted to Cleveland.

CHICAGO (WBBM) – Some Chicagoans have quite a story to tell about a flight from O’Hare to Frankfort, Germany that was diverted Friday to Cleveland when a passenger was found hiding in the bathroom and went ballistic when he was confronted.

Joe Shulfer of Woodstock had his noise-cancelling headphones on and was sitting by himself on United Airlines Flight 944.

“The flight attendant just ran up to me and literally grabbed me by the shirt and said, ‘You need to come with me now,’” the passenger told Newsradio 780.

They came upon three men wrestling with another passenger who, Shulfer learned, had been in the restroom for 20 or 30 minutes and wouldn’t come out.

They handcuffed the suspicious passenger and tied up his feet, but he started spitting and swearing, Shulfer says.

Welp, I guess that’s one way to funnel money to the democrats. ALL federal and state unions should be ended period.

It's like one of those human-interest stories they'd put at the end of the evening news sometimes back when Walter Cronkite was on.

In newsroom jargon that story was called 'the kicker'.

A few notes on style.

1) In closed circumstances like that, it is generally much better to use hammer fists than knuckle punches. Heel palms to facial areas. Sharp elbow smashes to the rib cage are just peachy. Broken collar bones are a must, and only take 15 lbs of force. Broken collar bones = no arms.

2) Don’t stop until it is very, very obvious that your efforts are no longer necessary. A violent and threatening individual should have a minimum of six months hospital recuperation before imprisonment is even an option.

3) Don’t ever assume they are working alone. Keep an eye out for confederates. Since you are not a LEO, racial profiling is a must, and often works. If “plan ‘b’” does anything suspicious at all, be on him “like a duck on a June bug”. This doesn’t mean attack him, but real sure that if he pulls something he will quickly be examining the carpet. FYI, these mugs often travel in groups of 4-6, so it could turn into a real brawl.

And “More than 1 means ‘life or death’.”

Yeah. I have Dan Rather's copy of The CBSNews Manual of Practice and Style right here. It defines "kicker" or "kick piece" as follows:

Kicker: a light piece, usually with a humor angle, used to fill out the final seconds of a program if we've covered everything that's come off the DNC fax line and the big advocacy groups have taken the day off.

Why didn't the flight attendant grab a couple of female passengers to help secure the unruly subject? After all, a woman can do anything a man can do! . . Right?

Some observations about this deal...the guy was in the toilet for 30 minutes? I’m guessing he was enjoying some of his drugs or the drugs he had digested were messing him up. He wasn’t on the passenger list? The only way to make that happen would be to have a airline representative arrange your entry without really taking the “pass” (which I’ve stood over the past five years and seen this done twice).

He almost has to be an Arab. Spitting is a big insult there. I guess it is here too but almost no one resorts to spitting on others in a confrontation.

I think the solution is to just install air locks on all passenger planes to allow for ejection of Islamists without losing cabin pressure.

I would add: don't use your fists if you have something better.

A heavy object to the back of the head can stop a struggle.

Certain ballpoint pens have nice strong metal tips -- sticking one up against his eyeball will stop his desire to struggle real fast. Alternately, a sharp ballpoint pen jammed forcefully into the throat or into a kidney will end things permanently (only if there's a general melee and there's more than one bad guy, indicating a life-or-death situation).

A belt with a good buckle makes a decent weapon for flailing or as a garotte.

Etc.

Think ahead of time what you could and would use as a weapon against a terrorist attempt.

Fatima Zahra Mosque, Frankfurt:

Islam in Germany

Written by David Motadel

Demographics

Germany has the largest Muslim population in Western Europe after France. Approximately 3.0 to 3.5 million Muslims live in Germany, and 80% of them do not have German citizenship; 608,000 are German citizens.1 100,000 of them are German converts to Islam.2 Recent statistics show a continuing increase in their numbers.3

The trouble is that the TSA is very weapon oriented (despite the truism that most anything can be used as a weapon), and want passengers to be as helpless as possible in a confrontation with a terrorist, insane person, or drunk/drugged up person.

Plus, there are some strong social stigmas. For example, I knew an individual who had a positive gift for popping out eyeballs. He said that absolutely nothing stops a fight faster, and most of the time, the eyeballs can just be popped back in and still work. Unfortunately, he admitted that seeing it happen is too much for many people, who then overreact.

Finally, as a technical point, it is often better to *not* use a weapon, in that it tends make the user too focused on it, when they could do better without. I’ve seen this before, with skilled karate people reduced to boxers, solely because they were wearing boxing gloves, something they were not used to. “Don’t punch them, you fool, kick them!”

One of the best weapons in short range conflict is just a cup of liquid: water, coffee, soda, whatever. Splashed in their face it is as long as seconds of free time in which to aggress—a huge interval of advantage.
