Fast And Furious Scandal: A Watergate For Obama?
IBD Editorial ^ | July 13, 2011 | Staff

Border: A 2-year-old video shows a high Justice official saying "the president has directed us," including the attorney general, to speed up Project Gunrunner and the offshoot that got a border agent killed.

This tape has no 18-minute gap, and while it does not feature the president himself, the March 24, 2009, video may rival the tape that turned a "third-rate burglary" into a presidential resignation. No one died at Watergate. Agent Brian Terry lost his life in the administration's obsessive pursuit of gun control.

In addition to Agent Terry, Immigration Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata was also killed in a separate incident by a weapon allowed to "walk" into Mexico from the U.S. as part of the administration's third-rate alleged attempt to track and catch gun traffickers.

The video shows Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, who would resign nine months later after less than a year's service, telling reporters at a Department of Justice briefing of major policy initiatives to fight the Mexican drug cartels.

"The president has directed us to take action to fight these cartels," Ogden begins, "and Attorney General Holder and I are taking several new and aggressive steps as part of the administration's comprehensive plan."

At the president's direction, Ogden said, the administration's plan included DOJ's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives "increasing its efforts by adding 37 new employees in three new offices, using $10 million in Recovery Act funds and redeploying 100 personnel to the Southwest border in the next 45 days to fortify its Project Gunrunner," of which Operation Fast and Furious would be a part.

You’re right. Watergate didn’t result in anyone dying did it? But IIRC, this operation HAS caused at least one person to lose their life. Where are the media profiles of the innocent victim and their family? Oh, wait, Hussein’s team is responsible for the loss of innocent life? Never mind...we must not question Dear Reader.

Frankly, I think he should have to Impeached for sending the Country into financial ruin. O-Care and funding our enemies (Islamofascist), just for starters.

I do not see any difference between Obama and the CEO’s of Goldman Sachs, AIG. all the lefties are calling for THEM to do jail time. Well I agree, and that includes Obama and his partner in crime Turbo Tim.

Well, I will say “Fast and Furious” is a great name for a scandal. It’s almost prophetic!

I’m one of the uninformed FReepers about Duranty....do you have any reliable links so that I can read about him? I don’t trust sites like Wikipedia for unbiased information.

“The likely reason this was set up was to push through more gun control because guns were making their way to Mexico.”

Only an irrational liberal would view this as a compelling reason for gun control, particularly in light of the ECONOMIC ASSAULT upon this country by Mexico, and the fact that almost 70% of foreign prisoners in US jails are Mexican.

Is there any (pissed) Chairman in Congress who wasn’t previously briefed about Fast and Furious who would like to get to the bottom of this using subpoena powers?

Not to compare apples and oranges but NOTW closed down in London for heinous bad judgement. BATF imho practiced heinous bad judgement times infinity. BATF needs to close down. When BATF fail, they fail big. I still remember Waco, and before that Ruby Ridge.

Ffs shut it down before they fail big, again. Transfer any of their significant duties (ie background checks) to Homeland Security.

FF won’t be allowed to reach anywhere near the scandal proportions of Watergate and Iran-Contra. The SRM simply won’t allow it. They’re already spinning it as an American gun culture gone wild.

Ain’t gonna happen.

The MSM doesn’t rule the agenda any more. Ask John Kerry, who experienced the old paradigm back in the early 70s, and the new paradigm when he ran for president as a “war hero.”

He got blown out of the water by the new media, despite the MSM’s loving attempted coverup.

Ditto Dan Rather and memogate, etc.

Walter Duranty is a good comparison to what’s going on in the media right now, which is a reason why conservatives should have pushed a greater understanding of what Duranty did.

Let's not forget CNN covering up Saddam Hussein's atrocities so as to maintain "access" to Iraq.

In both cases, journalists reported what tyrants wanted reported, in order to maintain "access".

Unfortunately, Woodward and Bernstein are retired and there are no real journalists who want to take on Obama and Holder.

Arming violent gangs as a tactic isn’t rational. Layers and layers of lies and cover-ups to look at - it’s going to be interesting.

They are spinning it to promote more gun control. The mere audacity of this as they are cought is enough for investigation.I hear your overall point but this does not go away.

The MSM still carries a lot of weight with a high percentage of Americans. John Kerry didn't draw the same level of cult-like following like Obama has. He's taken it to a new level.
