Perry on Romney’s Tail (The Texan Closes in On Two Polls)
National Review ^ | 07/22/2011 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 07/22/2011 9:50:54 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Mitt Romney remains the frontrunner in two new polls, but Rick Perry is a close second in both polls.

Results from the Fox News poll of GOP primary voters:

Romney (17 percent), Perry (14 percent), Michele Bachmann (10 percent), Rudy Giuliani (9 percent), Sarah Palin (9 percent), Ron Paul (9 percent), Herman Cain (5 percent), Newt Gingrich (4 percent), Tim Pawlenty (2 percent), and Rick Santorum (2 percent).

Romney has lost six percentage points since an early June Fox poll, while Bachmann has gained six points. Perry did not appear on the early June poll.

If options are limited to declared candidates (which excludes Perry and Palin), the top three are Romney (26 percent), Bachmann (15 percent), and Paul (10 percent).

Results from the CNN/ORC International poll of Republicans and Republican leaning independents:

Romney (16 percent), Perry (14 percent), Palin (13 percent), Giuliani (13 percent), Bachmann (12 percent), Paul (8 percent), Cain (6 percent), Gingrich (4 percent), Pawlenty (3 percent), Santorum (2 percent), and Jon Huntsman (1 percent).

"My friend Rick Perry knows that it is the American people who make this country great and not Washington. With appropriate respect for both our rich history and the practical needs of today, Rick sees a bright future for America, based on freedom and limited government." (Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana )

"Rick Perry has hit the proverbial nail on the head in FED UP!, making a powerful case for a return to limited government and the restoration of the proper balance of power between Washington and the states. As Governor of Texas, he has seen firsthand the greatness of America and the prosperity we can enjoy when we empower people and get government out of the way. He explains in detail the historical, constitutional, and practical reasons why a government closest to the people protects liberty, and lays out the path to right the ship - citizen involvement and engagement to hold politicians accountable. No citizen should skip this book - your future depends on getting this right." (Rush Limbaugh )

"In FED UP!, Governor Perry explains that we can and will save America by taking necessary steps to restore the proper balance of power between federal and state government. He understands what seemingly few other prominent politicians do-that America's greatness stems from the people and our collective respect for the Constitution, not from the 'geniuses' in Washington." (Mark Levin )

"FED UP! lays out the truth of how far our Washington politicians have driven this nation off track. It's refreshing to read that at least one of our leaders understood what my dad always knew. The Government works for the people and not the other way around." (Michael Reagan )

I like Palin and could easily vote for her (if she runs) but I don't hear many people around me that think she is capable. Personally she dropped down a peg in my estimation, when she gave up her governors chair. No need to give me the reason she did that, I have heard them all and I was not impressed.

It doesn’t surprise me that as a pro-Perry Texan you weren’t impressed—even though she got more done in 2 1/2 years as governor than Perry did in 10.

That Fox poll is based on just over 300 prospective GOP primary voters, it doesn’t release the first 23 questions asked before they get to their primary preferences, and it is represented on the GOP side by the Bush family’s long-time, personal pollster at UT-Austin.

I’m not surprised it comes up with such an outlier-positive result for Perry.

You still don't get it!

I am neither pro nor anti Perry or Palin. I am still looking over the field and waiting for everyone who is getting in to announce. The only candidates I am not in favor of are Romney and Paul.

“Whenever someone here bashes other candidates, you can be pretty sure they are a Palin supporter.”

That has been my experience as well.

A shame really. She is great. These people, to the extent they are a factor at all, only take away from her greatness.

Sarah, like the rest, is nowhere near perfect. But I’d sure vote for her if she won the nomination.

But if she just sits back a while, never tries for the Republican nomination and eventually goes rogue as a third party, then she will rightly be seen as self-centered and a bit chicken.

And if she goes third party when any of Bachmann/Cain/Paul/Perry are heading the R ticket, then she is a Gore-level megalomaniac.

If Sarah believes she would be better than the R’s in the race, she should run as a Republican. The party is on the mend since hitting the pits of the compassionate conservative days. A grand conservative wave mostly benefited the R’s last year and we now have the House complete with TEA caucus, will almost certainly take the Senate next year and most likely the White House too.

Now is NOT the time to start going all Perot on us!

God created primary season just for this purpose... to clean up and re-focus the party. And it’s not something done from without the party, but from within.

I question the logic which says a conservative can’t win the Republican primary, but could win a three way in the general. Sarah, if you’re concerned that a Romney type might be the R nominee, then get in there and beat him dang it. In the proper venue. The primary.

Repenting
Recommitting

We’ve got the most talented and principled candidate in a generation about to announce and we want the guy from Texas who won his last election...

...is presiding over the best state economy in the nation, has more executive experience than any potential candidate and is almost sure to beat Obama if the economy doesn't dramatically improve.

If the goal is beating Obama with a conservative candidate and Perry, by far, has the best chance of meeting that objective.

Have you seen and heard the guy campaign? Noticed how he’s wrapped himself in Christian fervor—which may work in TX, but ain’t gonna fly nationwide?

Because Perry is so close with the Bush family that they tried to run him out of office last year by supporting liberal KBH?

GWB and Rick Perry have both governed Texas and have many of the same acquaintances and they may not be enemies but I don’t think they are close friends either. I can’t see the Bush family calling in favors for Rick Perry to rig a poll to affect the primary.

I will correct the statement that only Palin supporters are running down the other candidates. Perry has had a strong chorus of dissenters on this board long before Palin was known nationally.

So, he is too Christian and conservative for you?

Now, having a day of prayer is extreme? You're grasping at straws trying to discredit him.

It's economy, stupid. And, no one has a better economic record or more executive experience to run on than Perry.

My first choice would be Cain/Bachmann/Palin in that order. If none of them seem capable of defeating Mittens, I’ll go with Ron Paul, Rick Perry, or anyone short of Adolf Hitler to keep that guy out. He’s Obama lite, more dangerous because it would be more gradual and give Tea Party-type opposition less to coalesce around.

I agree with you about the fact that the country, outside of the Bible Belt, is uneasy about politicians that wear their religion on their sleeve. Be that as it may, .....

A guy that attends prayers meetings in a Bible Belt State ..... Voters, nationwide, might not like it but they can understand.

A woman that tells America she wants her finger on the Nuclear Button and also tells an entire mega-church audience that that she believes that it is her religious duty to God to be "submissive" to Marcus Bachmann when he tells her to do something, whether she wants to do it or not. ...... The vast majority of American voters will run, screaming, as fast as they can away from THAT.

==================

Bachmann:(At 1:25) Michele Bachmann tells a megachurch audience that she did what Marcus Bacmann told her to do, regarding her post graduate education, even though she did not want to do it, because she says it is her religious duty to be "submissive" to Marcus Bachmann

Marcus Bachmann: Finger on the Nuclear Button by Submissive Religious Proxy

Checkmate. Game to Obama.

So, who is left that can WIN?

The pizza chain CEO that has never won an election in his life?

Mitt Romney?

Sarah Palin?

Sorry, February 11 polls, after Tucson, don’t cut it in July.

Palin has the highest approval of the potential candidates among GOP and GOP-leaning voters. She’s right up there with the pack in where she stands one-on-one with Obama, and she’s by far our most charismatic, principled, and extraordinarily accomplished government executive we have to offer.

(Oh, and I agree with you about Marcus Palin, but I just don’t see the country warming to Perry once they’re actually watching and listening to him and they hear more of his proclivities.)

I’ve regularly been open about my candidate being Palin and that she’s IMO the best bet we have to win. ..... 9YearLurker

Win what?

The Free Republic "Best Legs on a Candidate" Contest?

In the general election, a Sarah Palin nomination would be a Christine O'Donnell bloodbath on steroids.

Such thinking is simply delusional and flies in the face of all objective data.

=======================

=======================

=======================

Gov. Sarah Palin has an approval rating of less than 40 percent among Alaskans. ... The Moore poll gives Palin a 39 percent positive rating and 49 percent negative rating among Alaskans. Twelve percent said they were neutral.

All old data. Not at all what polls have been showing for several months now.

Here are Rasmussen poll results out today:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_presidential_election/obama_41_ron_paul_37

Palin is now leading Obama among independents. She also gets a higher percentage of the male vote than any other GOP candidate. And we’re 16 months away from the election.
