Rosa Brooks serves as Counselor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Michele Flournoy.

In May 2010 she also became Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and then Special Coordinator for Rule of Law and Humanitarian Policy.

She is running a new Pentagon office dedicated to those issues. She is on leave from her job as a law professor at the Georgetown University Law Center.

Brooks is known as a columnist (most recently with the LA Times) and at the Pentagon her portfolio has included both human rights issues and global engagement and strategic communication.

Her mother, Barbara Ehrenreich, is currently an honorary co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America. She also serves on the NORML Board of Directors, the Institute for Policy Studies Board of Trustees and The Nation's Editorial Board. She has served on the editorial boards of Social Policy magazine, Ms., Mother Jones, Seven Days, Lear's, The New Press, and Culturefront.

In 1991 Brooks earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, where she studied history and literature.

Brooks' work history has included previous government service as a senior adviser to Assistant Secretary Harold Hongju Koh at the U.S. Department of State, five years as an associate professor at the University of Virginia School of Law, and a stint as Special Counsel to the President at the Open Society Institute, George Soros' philanthropic foundation.

Standing in opposition to those who would run our ever-changing Democracy (for that is what we have become) are those that would conserve the ideals of a truly unique way of life, a Republic, a Representative Republic, such as the one envisioned by the founders of these United States.

Many aspects of our social, and religious-based beliefs and established mores, our basic economic freedoms may possibly induce so much passion on both sides we might end up fighting each other over which path is the one to take...and we will both claim an absolute moral imperative that we will each consider unimpeachable and without doubt the most fundamental cause...the struggle, of course, will be between those that would impose enslavement to a Marxist collective, that see it as an urgent mission that cannot be put off any longer. We have seen the growing cry for socialism in the country brings us to the point where it simply cannot be ignored.

Slave or free?

Socialists will never forgo their dream of the REAL, complete and total solution in which they so fervently believe because some of us believe that the REAL path to freedom is to pursue our destiny as a republic.

I hope this will not amount to anything but a clash between opposing forces of voters, but it seems like so much more and it seems explosive. It is too deep a disagreement, too fundamentally rooted in our belief in a way of life that we each so totally commit to.

I wonder how third Manassas will turn out?

Lt. Quarles Harris

That, and that those who authorized 0 up and down the line are and will always be traitors.
