Talking the Hawk: Regarding Rick Perry's Foreign Policy
American Spectator ^ | Aug 11, 2011 | Reid Smith

Posted on 08/11/2011 8:01:20 PM PDT by Clairity

With Perry's candidacy looming, some of us international relations wonks have begun to take note of his foreign policy positions.

In a 2009 debate against primary opponent Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Perry plainly stated that his faith required him to support Israel. This latter statement was bolstered by his trip to the Holy Land where he accepted the Defender of Jerusalem Award before breaking bread with then-President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

As governor, Perry has suggested the deployment of American troops to Mexico to control drug violence and proceeded with the execution of a Mexican citizen, despite impassioned requests from their government,

Understood in context of the hard-line stance he's taken on matters south of the Rio Grande, his national security team suggests Perry's shaping up as the traditional defense hawk many conservative have been clamoring for in an age of Obama.

There are about 1000 anchor babies per month being churned out at Dallas Parkland Hospital...that's just one Texas hospital. In Parkland Memorial Hospital Dallas, the second busiest maternity ward in the United States, 70% of the women giving birth were illegal aliens. That added up to 11,200 babies for which Medicaid kicked in 34.5 million dollars to deliver these babies, the feds another 9.5 million and Dallas taxpayers tossed in 31.3 million. The average illegal patient is 25 years and giving birth to her second anchor baby. Dallas Parkland Hospital 70% of the women giving birth were illegal aliens. Almost 1000 per month.

Perry actually said he supports this: " Legislation authored by border legislators Pat Haggerty and Eddie Lucio establishes an important study that will look at the feasibility of bi-national health insurance. "

"This study recognizes that the Mexican and U.S. sides of the border compose one region, and we must address health care problems throughout that region."

"That’s why I am also excited that Texas Secretary of State Henry Cuellar is working on an initiative that could extend the benefits of tele-medicine to individuals living on the Mexican side of the border."

With all that text, was it too much to ask to provide sources for the information?

He should treat Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya as Obama’s wars and pledge to get out. I don’t support more of this Rumsfeldian neoconservative nation building crap.

I didn't know about the Defender of Jerusalem Award. That's impressive.

Not needed. EVERYONE here in Texas knows Perry is an Open Borders type...regardless of paying lip service to conservatives. On the issues that would really help make Texas a hostile place to Illegals (i.e., Sanctuary Cities, E-Verify, etc.), Perry is NOWHERE to be found.

There are MUCH BETTER candidates on immigration and protecting our culture.

“Incorrect. Sourcing is needed.”

LOL, plenty of threads, practically every day now. If you’re too lazy to research it, that’s your problem.

If someone is too lazy to provide sourcing for their “information”, it is properly disregarded.

I'd be more impressed if he was a defender of the Rio Grande.

Thanks. I was trying to stay away from Perry’s OTHER PROBLEMS...but since you bring it up...I know it’s too much effort for some on this thread, but if one searches on Perry and Gardasil, one will get to really start knowing this darling from Texas.

Not everyone Bob. I am a supporter.

How does this jive with your statement?

As governor, Perry has suggested the deployment of American troops to Mexico to control drug violence and proceeded with the execution of a Mexican citizen, despite impassioned requests from their government, President Obama, the International Court of Justice and former President George W. Bush to stay the sentence.

That doesn't sound like an open borders guy to me. Didn't Perry deploy Texas National Guardsmen to the border?

Politics is full of disinformation. So is the internet. That’s why sourcing is important. It’s not too much to ask. And it’s a cop out to say I have to do my research. If someone posts information, it is THEIR obligation to source it.

Oh, those folks here already have the talking points ready, justifying/excusing his myriad of deficiencies. Every time election season comes around, we have the same R’Bots chiming in with “(S)He can win !” Not much talk about their accomplishments or actual stances on the issues, but mostly just pimping their “Conservative promises”, which miraculously always manage to be 180 degrees from the reality of their governance (and if, heaven forbid, if said bots lose an argument on a point, they smack you with “you’re just a purist !”).

As I pointed out last night, if Perry were a FReeper, he’d have been ZOT’ted almost 4 years ago. It’s bad enough he supported the moonbat Al Gore for President when he still claimed to be a “Conservative” Democrat, he supported the liberal Rudy Giuliani for President last time around. I mean, really, who is he just trying to fool ? So Perry might be able to beat Zero. OK. And if he does, then what ? What great Conservative ideals will he champion ? In Texas, they’re still waiting for that Conservative champion in the Governor’s office. The GOP has more elected officials there now than at any other time in history, and what is Perry doing with that plethora of Republicans ? Not a damn thing (or rather, not a damn Conservative thing). But, boy, just like Slick Willard, he’s got a good head of hair. If only it were Conservative.

Indignantly demanding “sources” when it has been discussed ad infinitum on this website is also a typical trolling technique.

If someone disagrees with you, why do you call them names? In a time of very high unemployment, Texas is leading the country in job creation and low taxes/high standard of living. Perry has been governor for 10 years and he hasn’t screwed that up. It seems that more people disagrees with you than agree or he would not have been governor for 10 years, or did you vote for him?
