Did Perry Even Vote For Reagan?

Posted on 08/15/2011 5:41:08 PM PDT by Minus_The_Bear

Rick Perry was a Democrat until Karl Rove convinced him to switch parties and run as a Republican against Jim Hightower for Agriculture Commissioner.

Perry is always mentioning Reagan... But no Yellow-Dog Texas Democrat who was a chairman for Al Gore in 1988 would have voted for Reagan. Some Democrats would have... but not a leading member of the Texas party.

Perry is just too slick. He is not conservative at all.

Perry admits to voting for Carter in 1976.

The Internet rumor is that he also voted for Carter in 1980 and Mondale in 1984, but he hasn't said so.

In the 70s and 80s there were still old school Democrats in elected office who privately voted Republican in the top race.

Being a Democrat in l962 and in l980’s are two completely different things! The Democrats are now Communists. The core Republican Party is sadly now to the left of JFK!

Reagan didn't campaign for LBJ did he? He campaigned for Goldwater.

Reagan was an enrolled democrat until 1962. He was a union leader prior to entering politics. He must be a RINO.

Michelle Bachmann grew up in a Democrat family and campaigned for Carter. She, too, must be a RINO.

And don't forget Sarah Palin. While governor she supported a 25% profits tax on "big oil." What could be more RINO than that?

Shhhh...they are on a roll. No sense bringing up Reagan supported the only President elected 4 times and held up as a god to the modern Liberal movement.

I don’t know if he voted for Reagan, but it wouldn’t surprise me, since has publicly stated that he voted for Bush 41 in 1988 (after Dukakis got the nomination).

We have the new Messiah. Now everything will be fine!!!! Forget all globalist tendencies (trade/immigration), His Government mandate, that he had to run from. Or even special interest ties to big business. He is really one of us!

Most of us get wiser as we age. If you are under78 you have no idea what the Great Depression was like.

I think you really need to do some research about the Democrat party in the early 20th century. The birth of many of the leading liberal institutions, programs and beliefs came into being during that time.

Being a Democrat in 1962 is a far far cry from being a Democrat in 2011. Most Democrats in the 60’s, President Kennedy included, would be considered, if not out and out right wing extremists then very close to it, by today’s Democratic/Communist standards and their sycophants in the press.

I’m not so worried about the D-label many rural types are or have been but this is really a damning indictment by a leading activist on Jihad/Islam, Pamela Geller:

But, like the Free Ma Free Masons, other secret societies, and some religions you don’t know who you’re worshipping until you’ve entered the highest level of that society or church.

He just fought for six years and finally won on photo i.d. for voting in order to prevent illegals from voting. He is on record repeatedly for saying that border SECURITY is the first priority -- Constitutionally a FEDERAL issue -- and that until our borders are secure, rational discussion on legal and illegal immigration is moot. His detractors say he's for amnesty. He is not, and has never said such a thing. They will show you articles from the early '90s that they want to say he's for amnesty, but if you read them you will see they say no such thing.

He absolutely did try to include the Gardisil (anti-cervical cancer) vaccine among the other required vaccines for Texas school children. He included an opt-out provision, but when we all screamed bloody murder, he backed off, listening to us. He then apologized saying he should have included an "opt-in" provision instead of opt-out, and that it was a mistake on his part.

You may have heard about the textbook stink in Texas? We have had liberals writing our textbooks for the past decade. Perry finally got them out and replaced them with enough conservatives to outvote them on content. Now the textbooks for our public school are turning back from left-leaning brainwashing and back to the facts. This was a national incident because as Texas is such a huge state, our choices here dictate the textbook options for many other states in what is published. So basically, he brought conservatism back to the classrooms in Texas and for many other states.

He has a balanced budget and under his command Texas created 40% of the jobs in this country over the last two years. His detractors (and there are MANY Palinistas on this site) will say they are minimum-wage jobs. They would be wrong. They run the gammut, but one must consider that Texas has no state income tax, and we are among the lowest cost-of-livings in the country. A four/three mack-daddy house dripping with granite and a pool in Dallas is $250,000 easy. His critics also hate him because he allowed ALL residents in Texas to pay resident tuition rates. This allows resident illegals of three years or more who attended public schools to be able to pay for their college at the slightly lower in-state rate. Perry believes educated Mexicans in this state are better than uneducated, and frankly, I agree. Their tuition is NOT free, as many on this site will pretend. Texas has 64% of the Mexican border and only receives 20% of the border security funding, yet the growth in illegals in Texas per square mile of border is far less than other states. Perry campaigned on putting up border cameras to allow local law enforcement to pick up border runners and drug trafficers. The legislature shot him down on it, so he pursued it independently, obtaining millions of dollars in grants to pay for these cameras. He fulfilled his promise. He is on record as saying that Arizona's law will not work for Texas. He is crucified for that remark. Constitutionally, the border and immigration and deportation is a federal responsibility. That is why the feds sued Arizona for overstepping. Perry wants to hold the feds accountable. That is why he hand-delivered that letter to Obama, which Obama refused to accept. It was a letter begging for help with the Texas border. He is pro-life. He is a devout Christian, and he is fearless. He flew for the Air Force. He was a farmer/rancher before entering politics, once serving as the Texas Agricultural Commissioner. He's a smart man, and will be a wonderful president. If you need more, let me know!

He was never pro-choice. Even Gore was pro-life, at least back then. I don’t know what he is now.

Reagan was an enrolled democrat until 1962.

Reagan was campaigning for Republicans, Eisenhower in 1952, and 1956, and Nixon against JFK in 1960 in his role as 'A democrat for the Republican', and there is a huge difference between being a democrat in the 1930s and 1940s, and being an Al Gore democrat during the Reagan Revolution after the 1960s and Jimmy Carter and even Reagan himself.

You’re confusing RINO with CINO.
