Subtle acts reshape military society amid [DADT] repeal

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Night-long celebrations will mark the final countdown to the historic end of the U.S. military's ban on openly gay troops, and even more partying will take place once it is lifted Tuesday. But in many ways change is already here.

Countless subtle acts over the past months have been reshaping the military's staunchly traditional society in preparation for the U.S. armed forces' biggest policy shift in decades. Supporters of repeal compare it to the racial de-segregation of troops more than 60 years ago.

For some gay service members, the fear of discovery and reprisals dissipated months ago when a federal court halted all investigations and discharge proceedings under "don't ask, don't tell," while military leaders prepared the armed services for its end.

Several have come out to their peers and commanders.

A few have since placed photographs of their same-sex partners on their desks and attended military barbecues and softball games with their significant others. In San Diego, about 200 active-duty personnel — both gay and heterosexual — made up the nation's first military contingency to participate in a Gay Pride march this summer, carrying banners identifying their branches of service. An Army soldier had tears, saying she was touched by the thousands cheering them on, after hiding her identity for so long.

...saying she was touched by the thousands cheering them on....

No doubt. Just wait for the next draft. They´ll be ¨touched¨ then too.

‘Policy shift’ - puke.

The military’s ‘policy’ is the defense of the nation and successful combat operations.

Anything that detracts from that - which this most certainly does - should be ignored or reversed immediately.

For the first time since the beginning of the last century, no member of my immediate family is a member of the US Armed Forces. The liberals wanted it, and they’ve got it. Now they can go fight, or find someone to do it for them. We’re sitting the next war out.

Celebrating open depravity. It's disgusting and it's embarrassing that the greatest military force in the world is openly engaging in homosexuality. How exactly will they celebrate??

Shameful..can anyone imagine what General Patton would say?

Because it had to be... in order to complete the destruction of the Republic the education system had to be destroyed, our treasury depleted, and finally the military had to be gutted.

Moral heterosexual patriotic males will find it a little more difficult to WANT to join. After 10-15 years of this we'll have a two tiered armed force. One for the actual fighting and the other as a social improvement humanitarian organization that happens to have weapons.

I'm done, I'm only left to tell my son never to join the PC armed forces. He's not going to die or be maimed in order to further this pile of dung or the parasites in DC. 7 uncles, his grandfather and myself will be the last of the Army Air Corps, Army, Marines and Sailors to be in his family tree. I've got some nephews that have joined up several years ago, but on the whole I'd rather he just go about learning a craft, a third foreign language and going into business for himself.

Watch this video from about 6:25 on and continue to watch the first part of the next video.

we are in normalization with a continuous war and the economic crisis... did you all miss the big RECOVERY that never happened. we are at war with a system and that is what the whole thing is about.

I come from a large military family with many of my relatives now serving. The repeal of DADT has and will continue to do more damage to the gays and make them far, FAR worse off then they were previously.

Soldiers who wwere disgusted by the gay life style and those who lived it will not change, but where before they did not knowingly have to come in contact with them so what they didn’t know didn’t bother them. Now that the gays feel free to identify themselves as such the soldiers who are not fans are fully aware of them and will adjust their behavior accordingly.

In the enlisted ranks almost no straight soldier will ever allow a known gay to place their hands on him in the normal ways this occurs when soldiers horse around. Almost no gay soldier will ever be seen in a group of soldiers out boozing it up because once they get a few in them most of these guys will say what’s on their minds and their will be trouble. No gay will be permitted in the shower when a straight soldier is in there and no straight soldier will enter a shower while there is a gay in there. Gays will be told when they can shower and they will listen. If they choose to complain of their treatment they will have no witnesses and their complaint will get them nowhere but a session we used to refer to as “midnight counseling”, which will quickly cure them of the bad habit of running to the brass.

They will (and are) more completely isolated then they were before because many will feel, wrongly, that because the law has changed so to have the feelings of the people involved and that is simply not true.

Their biggest loss is the ability for them to simply declare they are gay and get out of the service with an honorable discharge (general under honorable conditions). But with the repeal of DADT they have lost this option and after they out themselves and see what they have let themselves in for they have nowhere to go and will spend what time they have left stuck in isolation among their own kind.

I am not predicting this will happen I am stating it is happening now and I have this first hand

This "coming out" of homosexuals already in the services will most probably involve about 1 to 2% of males and 50 to 70% of females. How will the MSM spin this discrepancy?

If my prediction comes true, and IF we get to hear about it, it will continue to demonstrate that women do not belong in active-duty combat services.

I am confused.

Has the appropriate part of UCMJ been repealed by Congress?

If not, it’s still in effect. According to the Constitution, only Congress has the power to decide what the rules for the military are, not the President.......

Subtle acts? Interesting title....

Seriously, I really hope that a “Gay Mafia” of senior officers doesn’t end up being established. But, I fear that this will end up being the case (in 10-15 years) to make up for past discrimination. If so, it will be the beginning of the end for the military as patriotic, straight soldiers will be forced out (or court martialed) out. Once you have a situation where gays can flaunt it and straights are prosecuted for objecting, you will lose the backbone of the military very quickly. What is left won’t be worth dog spit.

It may take a major military loss to change things back, but I doubt it. They will probably place blame everywhere but when it really belongs. This country seems to be slowly losing the ability to learn the right lessons from its mistakes.

Same with my family. I no longer recommend the military to anyone. It`s too aligned with the perversions of American society now.
