“I could have handled 30 of them, but they would have gotten me in a bum’s rush while I was reloading.”

Which is why you need to get your wife an M4 so she can cover your six.

That was my thought at the time. Haven’t heard anything officially yet.

An interesting incident. Was anyone hurt?

I only know of one major incident to which the article refers - on I-270 at New Halls Ferry Road. This would have to be after 3:30pm, because that’s when I saw them all heading north.

MoDOT even put a warning on our digital signs - MOTORCYCLES EVERYWHERE PLEASE USE CAUTION.

One valid police response could be a curfew on motorcycles. Another is impoundment of all motorcycles with plates id’d by cameras.

I what call this a fairly serious public safety event even if only one accident happened, as it creates a very bad example. Come down hard on it, fast, and early.

It was very serious. I pulled my weapon out and had it at my side at the ready, one hand on the wheel - that’s the threat level I perceived. There was one - yes, one - police officer pulled over on the side of the road, lights flashing, just to get the cars on the road to slow down. Words cannot express how dangerous this was; they could have done anything and gotten away with it.

They were severely outmanned and could do nothing. I heard on Facebook that the police pulled over one or two, but for the most part, they ignored the police because of their numbers.

I would have been in favor of stretching a piece of rope across the highway, personally.

Nah; just need a bigger vehicle. ;-)

bigger'n a semI?

Truck driver with 18-wheeler died when he hit a moose that then came thru' the windshield - thrashing that great head with mammoth horns.

I'm guessing you don't live in moose country?

Nope; just elk & bison. Naturally, speed is also a factor, as well as front end slopes & other geometry.

I’d still rather take my chances not swerving, rather than roll off an embankment or hit someone else head on...my comp deductible is half what my collision deductible costs.

(NOTE: I said and meant “swerve”; never said I wouldn’t try to slow (even stop if possible) and CONTROLLABLY steer around one.)

Soon nobody was safe, the SUV’s had gotten to teh motorcycles, turned them, made them evil.
They swarmed and ran down all who came into tehir patsh.
Little old ladies, pizzamen, ballon animal artists, and even that guy with the art easel by the bike path as he oggled the bicyclists in a creepy fashion.
Especially the guy with the art easel.
Then the SUV’s attacked, adding to the chaos.
Flying, crawling, rolling, hopping, jumping, the SUV’s were everywhere in cahoots with the motorcycles!

I’d never heard of this before, but apparently this is the annual St. Louis “Ride of the Century” or “Streetfighterz Ride of the Century.” Tons of videos on YouTube if you search on this. Some of these kids are “nutz” and the gathering seems to be getting bigger every year. Apparently its a mix of young people from all over the region expressing freedom, extreme stupidity in some cases, pack mentality due to the numbers, and/or just showing up to ride around in huge numbers and observe the spectacle of it all.

Race replicas. I’ve seen smaller groups in the past, on this same highway, and these boys are exceptionally stupid and wild - speeds in excess of 100 MPH, zipping in and out of regular traffic, doing wheelies for hundreds of yards, etc.

Well, see, the unique problem with moose, as opposed to other animals, is that their considerably big, heavy body sits atop long spindly legs.

When a vehicle hits them, it hits only the legs - not the body mass. That leaves the whole body to come smashing into your - rather THROUGH you windshield - indeed, more often than not - it will take the whole top of your car off - top of YOU too...

I’m told that I’m good at that.
Even with my ‘awake all night and just got off work’ typos.

So....you freely admit to the crime(s)?
Do you record your ‘kills’ by etching keyboards into your car door the way WWII pilots recorded the enemy aircraft they shot down (painted on the side of their planes)?
