UC Berkeley student senators respond to bake sale
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 9/26/11 | Nanette Asimov, Chronicle Staff Writer

Berkeley student senators voted Sunday to condemn discriminatory behavior on campus - even if done in satire - in response to a Republican student group's plans for an "Increase Diversity Bake Sale," with pastries labeled according to race and gender.

The 19-0 vote, with one absence, came during a special meeting of the Associated Students of the University of California, as the debate over affirmative action reignited in Berkeley.

"Sure, it came off as discrimination," said Francisco Loayza IV, the treasurer of the Republican group, at Sunday's meeting. "People are being judged by their skin color (in affirmative action policies). I don't want to be judged because I'm brown. Look past the prices, and see what we're trying to do."

But another student, Devonte Jackson, said the bake sale was inappropriate and hurtful, "attacking underrepresented communities by reducing their communities to a cheaply priced good."

The bake sale - which the Berkeley College Republicans still plan to hold Tuesday - is an effort to denounce a bill now on Gov. Jerry Brown's desk that would allow the University of California and California State University to consider race, ethnicity and gender in student admissions.

The bake sale has students quarrelling not only about race-based college admissions but about the nature of political commentary - what is fair and what is offensive, and who gets to decide.

The Republican group timed the sale for Tuesday to counter an event by the student government on the same day that they say is racist in its own right. That event, sponsored by the Associated Students, will be a call-in booth on campus inviting support for SB185,...

Currently, Proposition 209, which was approved by California voters in 1996, prevents public schools and employers from considering applicants' race, ethnicity and gender.

Wow, Native American women would eat for free! Such a deal!

Proof, once again, that liberals have no sense of humor.

If anything, this is a bit of dry, understated humor that has this incurably peecee student council running around with its tails on fire betraying what it is.

I could think of variations, such as charging the same nominal price but having discount coupons at the table targeted to various sexes and ethnicities (shoot, why not one for the poofter luggbutts too?) but it really didn’t need more to make the point.

Devonte Jackson, said the bake sale was inappropriate and hurtful

Truth hurts, eh Devonte? And the satire was quite appropriate, given socialists' obsession with race.

You could apply the Harley-Davidson slogan to this:
“If I have to explain, then you’d never understand.”

Now they should do THE EXACT SAME THING but say they want to show the evil of capitalism and price according to how unfair it is to each race.

I bet they get loud applause from the faculty

If it is government-based discrimination then it is completely fine by the Leftists! But some independent-thinking fools like the Pubbies doing this dastardly deed? Not on your life!

This proves once again that the Leftards have absolutely no sense of humor.

if they were really smart they would have done the exact same thing at two different schools- and said that one was to show the evil of capitalism and prices were according to how ‘unfair’ it is to different races

A bunch of sanctimonious hypocrites. Feminist groups on campuses around the country used to do the same thing, selling cookies for .72 for women, $1.00 for men, to illustrate the phony “gender gap” in pay. And no one complained; in fact they thought it brilliant.

They will never own up to their own hypocrisy.

My favorite is the Conservative teacher, in exchanging a conversation on the merits of welfare - asked the students if they thought it would be fair for their test grades to be taken from the top performers, and distributed to those who were under-performing.

Funny, when it’s someone else’s money; they were for re-distribution. But when it was their test grades, then suddenly and without explaination this was ‘unfair’.

Reminds me of a blonde joke...

Blind Man in a Biker Bar

A blind man wanders into an all girls biker bar by mistake.

He finds his way to a bar stool and orders some coffee.

After sitting there for a while, he yells to the server, "Hey, you want to hear a blonde joke?"

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.

In a very deep, husky voice the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, sir, I think it is only fair given that you're blind that you should know five things:

1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.

2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.

3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175 lb. Blonde woman with a black belt in karate.

4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde & a professional weightlifter.

5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.

Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still want to tell that joke?"

The blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters,

"No, not if I'm going to have to explain it five freaking times."

Next thing you know those Bezerkley Pubbies are going to start asking students to redistribute their GPAs to those grade-deprived students who aren’t aren’t capable as Whitey!

GPA subsidies rock! LOL!

So does this mean that they’re going to ban preferential treatment of minorities in admissions practices?

I hope these guys have the nads to stand strong.

It's funny, biting satire. The Left, big fans of that P*ssy Jon Stewart don't know real satire...They think he's the tops with his wrestling with the obvious.

I'm thinking they missed the trans-gender option. Probably have to lop off another quarter if you've endured an addadictomy. Ooops. Maybe lop off should have been directed at the angry inch heroes.

I imagine lots of name calling and glitter throwing today, maybe some fake pies to the face. I would have hired an off duty police officer with a tazer to keep the “offended” at bay.
