NC governor recommends suspending democracy to focus on jobs
The Daily Caller ^ | 9/27/2011 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 09/27/2011 2:01:44 PM PDT by Bed_Zeppelin

As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending Congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things,” Perdue said.

North Carolina Republicans immediately scoffed at Perdue’s proposal, pointing out to her that elections hold politicians accountable for their actions. “Now is a time when politicians need to be held accountable more than ever,” North Carolina GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood said in an email to The Daily Caller. “To suspend an election would be removing the surest mechanism that citizens have to hold politicians accountable: The right to vote.”

Looks like they are preparing to scrub the entire incident from the News & Observer site.

I cannot believe she actually said this. Ranks up there with ‘put on your marching boots’ for sure. Does she think her opponents are just kidding too, I wonder? Shameful behavior for a governor.

Of course, to suspend national elections, a facist dictator wannnabe would also institute martial law.

Jeff Kuhner, hosting the Michael Savage show last night spoke at length about this.

Tax Rev Bev is an idiot. Her stupidity knows no bounds. She is one of those people that are described as “Bless her heart, she hits rock bottom and keeps on digging.”

During her campaign, over 80% of the newspapers in the state endorsed the her opponent. When liberal newspapers endorse a Republican, the Democrat has to be the bottom of the barrel. Unfortunately, she rode the very long coat tails of Obama into office. They were so long that she didn’t even campaign in Charlotte and still won the region.

During the last year, she has more vetoes than any prior governor. At don’t know what the count is now, but at one point, it was 14. I believe six were overrode by the legislature.

Rachel Maddow praised her bravery for vetoing so many bills. If you have been overridden over 40% of the time, and are vetoing bills at a pace never seen before, you are the problem, not brave.

Anyway, one of the bills that she vetoed was a voter id law.

As an interesting trivia piece, her name isn’t even Purdue. Her name is Bev Eaves. Purdue is the last name of her first husband (not her maiden name).

Both of you accurately point out the threats and realities of what’s going on.

Again, the Rats are the enemy, they must be destroyed, everyone of them, at all levels, Federal, State and Local.

My comment in Post #38

“Was that the original headline? Because now they [The News & Observer] have an UPDATE and a comment regarding a “late afternoon clarification.” -— AFTER the Daily Caller posted and after Bed_Zeppelin posted the thread.”
~~~~~~~~~
Chris Plante (WMAL out of Washington, DC) just covered Perdue’s comments and said that the News & Observer article headline WAS changed from the original to this:
Perdue jokes about suspending Congressional elections for two years
The Daily Caller posted an update to their article, but did not mention that the News & Observer had also changed their headline:
UPDATE 5:17 p.m.:
Perdue press secretary Chris Mackey claims the governor was joking when she made the comment.
“Come on … Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve,” Mackey said in an email to TheDC.”
~~~~~~~~~~~

From the News & Observer:

“The comment — which came during a discussion of the economy — perked more than a few ears. It’s unclear whether Perdue, a Democrat, is serious — but her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea. (Read her full remarks below.)”

Gov. Purdue’s full comment:

“You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things. I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. The one good thing about Raleigh is that for so many years we worked across party lines. It’s a little bit more contentious now but it’s not impossible to try to do what’s right in this state. You want people who don’t worry about the next election.”

“As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending Congressional elections for the next couple of years.”

Clearly another politico that has no idea why we have the different cycles for different offices. Plus, that would not make her a “Democratic” Gov, just a “Democrat.”

“Older leftist women that go crazy in later years.”

It is not that they “go” crazy. They were crazy all along and finally no longer care about hiding it. Crazy is a prerequisite of marxism...

“The interesting thing is that most conservative women within the same age group do not have this issue.”

Because they start sane......(and hot!)

;-)

Sad!!! The voters of North Carolina are being led to the slaughter house without making a peep!!! Sounds like the Jews in the German Concentration Camps be led to the gas chambers and told they were going to take a shower!!! Governor Perdue should be forced to resign today, and...if she refuses to resign, she be immediately impeached for her “Obama” inspired comments!!! What whimps!!!

She is a commie. Plain and simple.

She suspended our 2nd amendent rights (the bear arms part) in 2010.

http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-charlotte/north-carolina-governor-suspends-gun-rights

[Raleigh] Yesterday, North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue signed Executive Order No. 62, declaring a State of Emergency in advance of Hurricane Earle. In doing so, Perdue suspended the right of state residents to use or carry firearms outside their premises.

That did not go over very well here in rural Green County, NC. We have to eat.

I think that suspend elections crap could be made into an awesome anti-Perdue commerical come 2012.

Thank you—I am a 76 year young woman that thinks Perdue, Pelosi, Waters and some more should be sent home.

Don't judge us until you know us.

Testing out the water for Obama in 2012?? The Dems would do this if they thought they could get away with it...... Gives me chills to think of what Obama might pull to try to stay in the White House after his landslide loss! Good thing to know there are quite a few armed citizens in NC to keep these Marxists in order!

Sounds like someone is violating their oath of office.

Perdue apparently figures that since Obama is getting away with it, so can she.
