I agree with you 110% — it’s war, the guy was at war with us, and it’s a matter of kill or be killed (kill him or let him help to kill more Americans and other innocent peoples).

It is called treason and we have laws to deal with it. Killed in action in Iraq or Afghanastan ...ok. We crossed a border into a country we're not engaged with.

This whole matter makes me very nervous. Long-term, keep in mind who they are classifying as 'terrorists' lately.

If a US citizen joins a wartime enemy army in uniform there is no question of our moral and legal right to kill the bastard. The real comparisons are:

(1) if this guy had been in Saddam’s army or the Taliban’s army fighting us from within a recognized military unit, it would not matter a bit (legally or morally) that he was a “US citizen” when he was killed. The only relevant status is what he was doing to wage war as an enemy combatant against the USA and our people.

(2) so the only relevant difference is that this guy helps to run violent jihad campaigns from remote places in Yemen (until now, when he is toasted). Being a US citizen should provide no protection whatsoever in such circumstances.

This is not at all like a case in which someone could be captured domestically, when various civilian legal issues might arise. He was an “enemy combatant” fighting us from beyond the reach of civilian authorities. This is an easy case not a hard call. The jihadists one can debate about are the ones who can be captured by domestic police and FBI.

It’s war, no holds barred.

Well then God Bless 0bama for changing the military Rule of Engagement and disregarding the Conventions and Rule of Law.

0bama is our savior and hero to the nation. And a much better war President that GWB ever was.

It is far more than simple treason. He was waging war. That has moral and legal implications far beyond some domestic traitor who can be put on trial (though unfortunately we don’t do much about traitors anymore).

A traitor is not necessarily an enemy combatant as this guy was (a traitor can be a spy etc.). Capturing him was not any serious option, nor was it worth risking a single American life any more than necessary. I think the SEAL raid on Osama’s hideout was justified for the reason that we wanted to confirm identity, but in this case it was worthwhile to kill a bunch of jihadists and let the locals sort it out.

"0bama is our savior and hero to the nation. And a much better war President that GWB ever was."

??? Don't be ridiculous. It is not some general endorsement of Obozo to say he got something right. If Pres. Bush were still POTUS, or indeed for any POTUS ever, I'd hope they would give this order in these specific circumstances.

When you can't argue you resort to silly sarcasm. Interesting....

Awlaki relocated from the Shabwa region to the Marib province around three weeks ago.

Awlaki was in one of two cars that was hit by several hellfire missiles from one of our Predator drones at 0655 GMT. The strike was 8km east of the town of Khashef in the province of al-Jawf, about 140km NE of Sanaa.

Samir ibn Zafar Khan, US citizen from Charlotte, North Carolina was likely killed in the same strike. Khan was the webmaster for a number of AQ blogs and the graphic editor of the AQ magazine Inspire.

This is the third time we killed Awlaki and his brother says he’s still alive. But the nature of the US confirmation indicates that DNA was collected, confirming his death.

Well...

Clinton knew where Osama was....what did he do?

Bush knew where Osama was and he did what?

I find it odd that little skinny 0bama is doing what previous administrations failed to do. Sarcasm yes. Silly?

If you check through my posts, you will see I don’t often disagree with the take no prisoners in the war of terror. In fact I often have ranted about the ROE we are supposed to be operating under.

But it does concern me that 0bama is throwing around this much brutal power. It concerns me as his people consider many groups “terrorists,” and just encourage good strong consideration as to how they hold the Rights of citizens.

When I joined FR I was often told it can’t happen here...well a lot the can’t happen here...is happening here. I don’t necessarily discount a person’s citizenship and their Rights.
