Rick Perry says U.S. troops may needed in Mexico to fight war against drug cartels
Daily Mail ^ | 10/2/11 | AP

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry has said that he is open to sending American troops to Mexico to help battle drug cartels. Mr Perry, the Texas governor, likened the situation to Colombia, where the government accepted American military support in battling drug trafficking.

Mexico's government, however, has been opposed to foreign forces in its territory.

'It may require our military in Mexico working in concert with them to kill these drug cartels and to keep them off of our border and to destroy their networks.

'I don’t know all the scenarios that are out there but I think it is very important that we work with them, to keep that country from failing.'

You have the correct answer.

The problem with proposing a military solution to the drug problem is the nature of the conflict. The military will be strictly limited in what they can and can not do for political purposes/leverage. A situation very much like Vietnam.

The drug cartels will face no such restrictions.

The military can go after only active drug cartel dealers; their families and no active dealers will be off limits. Our military families, on the other hand, will be targets of the drug cartels. And everyone who has looked at this issue knows this.

In fact, Little Hollywood (TV) has already explored this on CSI with Jethro Gibbs.

If you look back at historical records 26 years ago you will find a Congressional push to involve the DOD in the War on Drugs. After the political hoopla died down that concept died a quick death because DOD studies indicated there was no way to fully protect the families of military members physically fighting the war on drugs.

Proof of statement - first read the Congressional Record the fall of 1985 looking for “Counter Drug Wing”. The realize a few months later the entire issue (but NOT the money) had disappeared.

Was there then and saw most of what went down. Ugly doesn't begin to describe it!

I just watched Meet the Press and they had a map up of States that have had massive increases in Hispanic “voters” just since Obama took office in 2008. Scary numbers that essentially will flip Texas, NC, and Colorado to the Dem column if not stopped.

The Dem Hispanic congressman guest said that the GOP will lose if they keep alienating Hispanics. No, we’ll lose if we don’t build the fence, staff it and prevent employers from hiring illegals.

Maybe this societal breakdown In Mexico will bring the independents over to realizing the serious nature of this problem.

$10,000 question

Why is MExico not so voiceferous on fast and furious while they are on free US gun ownership?

Why the silence at the UN?

Why Interpol not saying anything?

Oh, I forgot, all these were designed against us, and they are probably training the Mexican military to pimp our military and our country’s free citizens.

Watch out, most thuggish leaders of illegal workers in AMerica are “former” Mexican Army leaders.

I repeat:

This is insane. You would have the SAME situation in Mexico that we face in Afghanistan. You would NEVER be able to turn your back on a Mexicn soldier without wondering if a bullet was aimed at your back.

I liked Perry when he got in the race, but saying stuff like US troops to Mexico now makes me think his mouth-brain connection has a faulty connection. I don’t mind controversial ideas if good, but this troops comment is down right stupid. He hasn’t faced real debates with sneaky Democrats, what will Perry say to torpedo his candidacy then?

When the US military is all brought back to the Western Hemisphere (and they will be - we cannot sustain a global presence much longer), the emphasis should be on reinstating the Monroe Doctrine, which is to keep outside influences from infiltrating and controlling the zone of our primary interest.

We need oil? Not that we don’t already have plenty we could tap right within our national borders, but Mexico has plenty more, they are just not taking full advantage of what they have, by allowing the wells to fail, and exploring only in a most timid manner for more. If enough money is flowing through the Mexican economy, the incentive is not there to turn to illegal means of gaining foreign exchange, i.e., the brazen actions of the drug cartels that turns thousands of impoverished Mexican citizens into drug mules, and plants them within the US territory.

Okay, I could see where it might at some point be in the national interest to go after those guys. That said...explain to me how a border fence is an intolerable hardship on border landowners, but a shooting war wouldn’t be.

If you want to use our military seaward against the cartels, fine......hit them with airstrikes and put boots on the border.

This will never happen regardless. The Mexican Government would not stand for it. They are calling the shots in THIS country and would never allow the use of our military south of the border or anywhere near the U.S. - Mexico border. They have far more say in dictating U.S. policy then Americans do.

Rick Perry says he'd send US troops to Mexico to fight drug cartels....... This shows Perry's astounding lack of judgment. The US would have the SAME situation in Mexico that we face in Afghanistan.....NEVER being able to turn your back on a Mexican soldier without wondering if a bullet was aimed at your back.

Now hold on.......the MO Perry is using to sate his insatiable lust for presidential power is becoming clearer by the day.

This we know----Perry and Mexico officials have been buddy-buddy for years. All of the top Mexicans are on record thanking Perry for all he's done for them.

Ergo, mexicanos would be more than willing to help Perry get his hands on federal power----b/c that means Mexico would have free access to the US Treasury....US tax dollars would flow over the border like agua caliente.

It would be easy as pie for Mexico and Perry to collude to stage a detente----to temporarily detain drug cartels as a favor to Perry----simply b/c the Mexican govt controls the cartels.

Some time ago (at least a year ago), I postulated that one reason for the lack of border control was to promote the illegal invasion and drug related violence in order to eventually justify “military intervention” in order to “Stabilize” Mexico in the name of “USA Security”.

I was somewhat amazed to subsequently see a long article in the LA Slimes showcasing SOS Hilary opining the same thing .......... Now we have a second National Figure adding to the legitimization of this upcoming travesty. Perhaps as part of the NA Unification Plan?????

Perry’s opinion in this matter just cost him any chance that I’d vote for him in the primary. We don’t need anymore foreign adventures.

I did read it. What part of it are you failing to comprehend? Perry wants to send the military, he just didn’t specify how much, how long, etc.
