What they aren't factoring and the media aren't is the role social conservatives play in the primaries. We will not vote for someone weak on Pro-Life, Pro-Family, Pro-Marriage. The wild card will be the open primaries.

Indeed.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, dear wmfights!

Obama's minions have been doing opposition research on Romney the entire past year at least. He's the guy they want to run against. Plus this anti-Wall Street farce being orchestrated by the unions and Acorn offshoots has been crafted to undermine a Romney candidacy, as Rush has presciently pointed out: Romney is being set up as a nefarious "Wall Street insider" — a nasty robber baron determined to plunder the middle class who, among other things, would outsource American jobs to other countries in the name of corporate Profits....

The media has been at work to get Romney on the top of the ticket for a reason and this is probably why.

Thank you for sharing your insights, dearest sister in Christ!

How do you figure? I see Cain assuming the conservative mantel especially if Sarah supports him.

Great question!

Cain does not have the money to fight a marathon. On FR we get all kinds of info and discuss it, but we are more the exception than the rule. The vast majority of voters will start making decisions based on advertising. He doesn't have the money for it.

Also, Cain is very popular right now because he "shoots from the hip". However, I am convinced that after the last 3 yrs of obama voters want competent leadership. The Pubs in the primaries are placing a high priority on electability.

Cain has also exhibited a profound lack of understanding how govt works and what you need to do to get things done.

He has not responded well to what social conservatives place a priority on. He failed to sign a Pro-Life pledge and then tried to explain this away on the basis that the POTUS can't advance a bill. His backing of Pro-Family issues is questionable.

The value of Sarah Palin supporting him would probably be off set by those who will not support him because of it. If she came out in support of Cain he would get a huge bounce, but would be further marginalized in the process. Palin's power to sway a majority of the American people is over estimated.

The Perry factor is also at work in the sudden explosion of support for Cain. Cain's rise in the polls corresponds to Perry's decline. Perry did not do well at the 2nd & 3rd "gotcha" panels and his ratings declined. If Perry shows improvement at the next couple debates the luster on Cain dims. Perry does not tend to "shoot from the hip", he has executive experience as Gov. of the 2nd most populous state in the country, he has a solid organization and is raising 6X's the amount of money Cain is raising and is a solid conservative on the social issues.

You can bet on the fact that, as I write this, every candidate is heavily lobbying Palin for her support.

I wouldn't be so sure about this. We know Romney isn't. He is running as the "centrist" who is "nuanced" on the social issues. I'm sure Cain would want her support but he's just trying to win the nomination. I don't know if Perry is pushing for it. He's campaigning against obama.

The problem with Palin is her detractors are as intense in their dislike of her as her supporters are in their liking her. If we are going to win in the general election we need the swing votes. The swing votes we need to pick up are the middle class suburban women and the RC's.

You know, we really don't know when she decided not to run. It could have been at the last minute, or it could have been a long time ago. I think she's sharp enough to see that she was not able to expand her base and could not win in a general election.

I doubt as conservatives there is very much we could take issue with on her policy positions. From my perspective this election is such a great opportunity it would be shameful to nominate the wrong person and lose.
