Anita Perry: Husband Rick Perry "brutalized" by media, the GOP because of his faith
Dallas News ^ | 10/13/11 | Wayne Slater

Anita Perry, campaigning for husband Rick Perry in South Carolina, suggests he's been "brutalized" by the media and the GOP because of his faith. Perry is the most religiously expressive candidate in the Republican field. He hosted a seven-hour Christian prayer rally in August in advance of entering the presidential race. And at last week's Values Voters Summit, he was introduced by a Dallas Baptist pastor who said rival Mitt Romney is not a Christian and Mormonism is a cult.

Perry has suffered several extremely bad weeks, stumbling in the debates and losing the coveted endorsement of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who's backing Romney. Here, in emotional remarks at a South Carolina campaign stop, Anita Perry said:

"It's been a rough month. We have been brutalized and beaten up and chewed up in the press to where I need this today. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think, they look at him because of his faith. He is the only true conservative - well, there are some true conservatives. And they're there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."

Here's the full 15-minute appearance -- a remarkable, emotional address threaded with religious references in which at one point (about 3 minutes in) she nearly breaks down, then (8 minutes in) makes the comments about the brutal campaign and later recalls someone who told Perry his political troubles were a divine test: "God is testing you because he wants you to know when you're in the White House, how you got there." It was a public show of emotion, not unlike Hillary Clinton breaking down in tears

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, when you are running for president, there are a lot of asses to be kissed before you get the job!

he was asked if Northerners don't understand Texans.

Of course we understand Texas...and don't want the rest of our nation to look like them...not even close. They can keep their illegals, their muslim population, and their cheap labor and the companies who hire them, and their drug war, and killings, and diseases flowing in, and sloppy way of handling it all by their man of the hour....who has had years to clean up the messes but instead harbors, enables and participates in bringing all this on the rest of the nation. No thank you....

If you think there aren't illegals working in the north (Iowa as an example), if you think there isn't a large Muslim population (check out Michigan some time), if you think there isn't a drug war up there (look for your local Barney Fifes equipped like they are headed for a tour in Afghanistan), then look again. I may not be a fan of Perry, but y'all aren't in much better shape.

This and the rock thingy is just political obfuscation, trying to take our minds off his love and support of illegal aliens which is what caused his downfall. You’ll get no sympathy from me, Rick Perry. I’m heartless. You made your bed now you can lie in it.

when the state capital here in PA is on the fast track to bankruptcy.

Well what do you expect of a Liberal/Democrat held capital! Sheesh...same with Pittsburgh! All the liberals are in power there with a tight hold which the people have been fighting to stop for years now....they have more political seats in Harrisburg than any other state and none of them want to streamline that as they would be unemployed. It's a mess and we know it...just like the rest of the country.

But we are doing something about it. We got Rendall out and the rest hopefully will soon follow. Now tell me again what Texas is doing other than hiring Perry year after year after year and then go running to the nations taxpayers because your problems are totally out of hand...and now continue to breach the entire nation!...Problems which Perry has brought and fostered for your state...and now you guys want to bring give him the Presidency ??? Give me a break!

And now, as you are seeing, his mask is off and Perry is seen for exactly what he is.....A Globalist Rhino, Pay to Play Corporate Bamboozeler who will do whatever it takes to play in the big boys park!

As a Texan living in Pennsylvania they can all kiss my grits. After living in the north all these years I say they have a lot of nerve putting down a self sufficient state like Texas when the state capital here in PA is on the fast track to bankruptcy.

I understand....I went to college in PA and then got out as fast as I could. :)

I've lived all over, so I know what's good and what's not.

I daresay these yahoos putting down Texas have never set foot here.

Personally, I'd like to keep it that way.

Bottom line, politically speaking:

Perry and his campaign team/organization are NOT ready for prime time.

Perry should NOT have allowed himself to be introduced by somebody like the preacher.

His team should have anticipated the painted rock topic, and been ready with the story and the dates.

Perry’s responses and the time it takes to get them, are just not getting the job done.

And I haven’t mentioned his debates, which are another complete subject.

I hoped he’d be the real deal. But both he, and his team, are not quick or agile enough on their feet.

And his wife claiming the media is doing it to him, because he’s a Christian, doesn’t convince most onlookers. He’s the candidate.

Can you say: Fred Thompson?

Perhaps Fred’s and Rick’s wives made them run, against their best instincts.

So how does a guy resolve that? He doesn’t give it all he is capable of.

“The “you don’t like Rick because he’s religious” strategy is much better than “you don’t like Rick because of all of these other things” strategy. “

So I guess you’re implying that Cain would be doing better if his wife complained that the Republicans not supporting him are only against him because of his race?

If not, explain the difference please.

These fools mock God when they spout bullcrap like this.

Be not deceived. God is not mocked. He has already made his choice to occupy the Oval Office. The rest of us find out who that is on Nov 6, 2012.

Perry gave 90 bucks to a church one year recently, and that was one of his more generous years. The guy is a blow-dried fraud.

You really do have tunnel vision if you think that's all we do. Your bitterness is clouding any rationale you might possess.

I'll take Texas over your liberal cesspool any day of the week.

You blue-staters sure are an uptight, unhappy lot. Maybe you should cut back on the cappuccinos?

Just a friendly suggestion.

I feel sorry for governor Perry...I supported him.

But, you get 1 chance to make a first impression, and he’s had three. In all 3 he’s had no fire in his belly.

You don’t go into those debate thingies unprepared. You go locked and loaded and ready to shoot.

So far, to steal a line, he’s gone to a gun fight with a knife.

No thanks to Texas and Perry's Open border polices thank you!... Close the dang Border there before you take this entire country down! Do what your state has been sent millions and millions of dollars to do, and that annually no less...shut down the border and clean it up!

Laura Ingraham just roughed him up pretty good on O’Reilly. Basically said he was unprepared and had no one but himself to blame. She said his slowness stood out among all those quick-speaking and thinking candidates at the last debate.

So glad you got rid of Rendall. Fast Eddie as Rush calls him. I love PA. I only get to Bucks County but it’s the most beautiful county on earth.

Yea Xzins....he looked pretty good at first...until I checked his history and that was enough for me to put Perry in the same league as Romney.

But I am of the mind he really dosen’t want the presidency, his debate preparation sure evidences he’s not really serious about it...same with Romney....who simply glides along without anyone really nailing his butt to the mat. But they will.....

Perry gave 90 bucks to a church one year recently, and that was one of his more generous years.

I suggest you provide a viable source for that or the Romney-loving douche-nozzles on here will take that as the gospel truth and start peeing all over their loafers in excitement.
