Cain says Forbes concluded Perry camp was source of harassment leak

Justin Sink

November 3, 2011

Herman Cain said Forbes Magazine - and not his campaign - was responsible for the concluding that Rick Perry's campaign leaked the story of sexual harassment allegations during Cain's tenure as the president of the National Restaurant Association.

"A reporter did this research and came up with these facts, we didn't," Cain said Thursday on Sean Hannity's radio show. "That was the reporter that wrote the report for Forbes."

But despite adamant denials from the Perry camp, Cain said he still doesn't "see any other way this could have come out."

The Forbes article, headlined "Cain Says Perry Camp Behind Sex Harassment Leak," quoted the candidate as saying that he told former staffer Curt Anderson, now a consultant for the Perry campaign, about the allegations. But Cain is not quoted specifically accusing Anderson of being the leak.

The Cain campaign quickly seized on the article Wednesday night, seemingly validating Forbes' reporting that Cain was laying blame at Perry's feet.

"‪Rick Perry needs to apologize to Herman Cain, his family, and America for this despicable story‬," Cain's chief of staff Mark Block said Wednesday on Fox News.

Anderson has denied the accusations, saying in a statement: "I have great respect for Herman and his character and I would never speak ill of him, on the record or off the record."

He also told Fox News that any reporters he had ever spoken to about the Cain allegations were free to openly attribute those comments to him. In doing so, he opened up the door for Politico, who originally reported the allegations, to confirm him as the source. Politico has not done so, effectively eliminating Anderson as the source of the story.

Block said earlier Thursday that he would "accept" the claim by Anderson that he was not behind the story.

"Until we get all the facts, I'm just going to say that we accept what Mr. Anderson has said, and we want to move on with the campaign," Block said on Fox News.

But Cain seemed unconvinced, telling Hannity "there aren't enough breadcrumbs that leads us to any other place."

"I believe a lot of people are connecting the dots for themselves," Cain said. "I don't see any other way this could have come out."

Cain also said he's "almost certain" he told Anderson about the allegations.

"I am almost certain that I did. … This is why we want to get off this merry-go-round," Cain said.

Did wilson not say he was there and he was aware of the story, and did he not say that there was more information to come. So tell him get up and start singing, I really want to see his email and phone records.

Translation -- no, I don't have anything showing that Chris Wilson was the source of the Politico story.

Translation, dirt bag wilson has figured out he has ended his polling firm, no one, no one in their right mind would trust the man to do jack. Other than that he says he knows all, let him run his mouth some more.

Cain isn’t ready for prime time, that much is obvious out of all this.

Screw Cain at this point.

I will not vote if he’s the only option we have left. No better than Obama.

So you can't back up your original accusation that Chris Wilson gave the story to Politico, much less that he did so at the behest of the Perry campaign. Instead, you just decide to attack Wilson, which does nothing to prove your point.

Basically, you're engaging in the same smear tactic against Perry that you claim Politico made against Cain. Nice company.

Good comparison.

Cain *IS* just like McCain. Just another ‘maverick’.

Sniff, sniff...

Geez, if you act like a 2-year old, how’d you ever get out of your parent’s home?

I listened to a bit of Cain’s speech today and I swear he and Obama are in competition on who can talk the worst. BTW, speaking of the speech today, I am very put off at his bragging about being in bed with the Koch Brothers, we have a president right now owned by Soros, I am not eager to change to one owned by the Koch Brothers.

“So what to do? Prolong the ongoing lynch mob atmosphere, and money pours in, and volunteers are fighting to get in the doors of his unusual myriad of auxiliary campaign organizations, which in happy chaos are bubbling up everywhere. Tonight I was offered hotel space for more meetings while my wife simultaneously was dunned on the phone by another fund-raiser for Herman.”

The question to be asked when one of these things hits is: cui bono?

It’s becoming very obvious that the person who has most benefited from this is none other than Herman Cain. Which is absolutely dripping with irony. And hilarious to boot.

We keep on looking at other campaigns and the NRA as the source of the leak. Another explanation is occurring to me.

Attacks on peoples family, these leaked BS accusations are just like discussing people cloths or their looks... this sort of stuff should not count in the elections (no substance) in the first place (All based on fallacies) but in addition to this it is telling of the candidate's that engage in this practice. They lower themselves and someone like me doesn't even consider the accusation and person it's directed towards as much as the source. I don't care about Chaney’s daughter being a lesbian, I care a lot about who brought that up, very telling about that person.

Sorry if you like Perry, I supported him before, defended him in this forum, I live in Texas, even have attended rallies for him in the past and saw him speak live several times. He just lowered himself. It has nothing to do with “thin skin” (If there were substance) and everything to do with someone using slander / fallacies and in a devious way to avoid direct association with this sort of trash talk. I assure you, I'm not the only one who will see Perry in a new way because of this, even in the future regards his governorship.

It is you calling others names and using more fallacies and defending what amounts to a back door/under the table attack that has zero substance by Perry. Maybe birds of a feather... You're right, I'm a 2 year old, sniff sniff...
