Democrats had ruled the state Agriculture Department for a hundred years. Perry immediately ejected Hightower loyalists and Democratic operatives from the agency. He pledged to cut the departments staff by 20 percent and scale down the number of regional offices around the state.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry talked with a friend
in September 1991 while visiting a ranch outside Austin.
After Rick Perry switched from Democrat to Republican in 1989, he set out to become, in the words of his mentor Phil Gramm, more Catholic than the pope.
During the next 22 years, as he rose to the top of Austins power grid, Perry not only left his Democrat friends behind he helped destroy them politically. And Texas evolved into a redder-than-red state.
Perry and the GOP took down U.S. Rep. Charlie Stenholm, Texas House Speaker Pete Laney , Texas Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower , Texas Comptroller John Sharp and many other Democrats...
Perry has portrayed his move as a matter of principle, while those Democrats, and others, say it was the result of political ambition. Expressing grudging admiration, Stenholm said, Rick has become a master politician.
Stenholm and Perry grew up where pump jacks, cattle and rows of cotton exist side by side on the plains of rural West Texas. Stenholm, a conservative blue dog Democrat, was already in Congress when he helped recruit a 33-year-old Perry to run for state representative in 1984.
....After graduating from Texas A&M in 1972, Perry spent six years as an Air Force pilot and then returned to Haskell County in 1977 to work the farm and ranch with his dad. He had gotten a taste for politics after joining the American Agriculture Movement, which brought the problems of family farmers and ranchers to public attention...........

LOL, he was in full bore support of green energy when he was, what ever that is, agi commessioner.
Bull.
That’s not true. “visas” start at the home country.
Newt joked about identifying the Illegals with the FedEx package, but he didn’t even attempt to tell what to do once we find them.
Both Cain and Newt answered questions by the media about border security. Both talked about “strategic fencing,” and sending more troops to the border. Newt even said he’d close the border in the same one year time frame that Perry used.
Later, Peter Farrara stuck around to discuss Newt’s economic plan. Both Cain and Newt praised and recommended Mr. Farrara to us - Cain virtually introduced the man to us.
He again mentioned strategic fencing, His answer to what Newt would do about the illegals already here was “just enforce the law” and attrition will take care of the rest.
“Your life consists of what you do here, and until you get another one, you wouldnt change on a truth or dare.”
If you’re down to personal attacks, then your case is falling apart. As I said, Perry can say he voted for Bush in 1988 all he wants, and Reagan before that. It means nothing, since he’s trying to get us to believe he’s a conservative and no one was in the booth with him to vouch for those votes.
I will continue to look at his VERIFIABLE ACTIONS. And again the FACT is that he continued with the Democrat Party after they nearly impeached Reagan. I have a BIG PROBLEM with that, because I have a really tough time understanding how any so-called conservative could stick with that party, after that circus.
“BobL did misstate the facts, the number is more like 30 million. But amnesty is amnesty.”
Sorry about that - I’m trying to be conservative in my numbers...so that Ohio babe doesn’t jump on me.

Perrys squalid ambitions-----particularly in showing up and stomping over the winners of the Iowa straw poll----- show definitively that Me-first Perry is a Lone Wolf.
Perry is a ruthless, unconscionable conman. Republican, my Aunt Tilly-Perry does not consider himself a loyal party member-he will advance himself no matter who is forced to pay the price. Sure, politics is a dirty gamebut Ricardos brand of politics is more like its played in banana republics.....Sierra Leone and Nigeria come to mind.
PERRY'S THIRD WORLD POLITICS He forced the state to medicate little girls' genitals----and used eminent domain power to take land from Texans to give to a Spanish company building the Trans-Texas Corridor. Perry's cut of the TTC deal musta been humongous....Ricky's not called "the human price tag" for nothing.
Perry manages to stay in the 2012 race despite sinking to the bottom of the pack b/c he has millions of dollars----and b/c his rich Mexican and Islamic friends are hellbent on putting him in the WH.
You mean like Reagan gave when they became citizen eligible with the stroke of a pen?
That amnesty?
If they work here to keep their families from starving to death, that wouldn’t bother me.
As long as the border was secured, we caught those who tried to escape the system, we didn’t give American citizen jobs away to them, and they did not receive amnesty/citizenship.
In other words, get in line, apply for a work permit, be granted entry for that purpose only, and otherwise remain a citizen of Mexico or whereever you come from.
But then, I’m a real, born and raised, lifelong, thinking Texan.
Not a hobby thread spammer who gets off on insults and lies.
And I also know that prohibition and segregation no longer exist, but they were once the law.
I also know that Roe vs Wade which legalizes abortion on a whim is the law now. And that law should be changed.
Just as immigration laws can be changed to allow certain people to work here, and allow them nothing else.
And I won’t fall for the nonsensical whining you and BobL try to pull...”but we’re only upholding the law”.
“Ive lived in Texas over 20 years. And earlier I lived in Arizona (20 years). I expect Ill die a Texan.”
I’m just having fun with you. It’s almost time for our morning break. 15 minutes, right?
Yes he was for bull too, but having made a “C” in animal husbandry, I doubt if he can tell a bull from a cow.
The route he took to acquire that power will have negative future consequences. It’s built on political maneuvering. It’s impossible to know where he’ll swerve next. You’re too immersed in the Perry Krishna cult to see it.

“Perry is not calling for amnesty and making illegals citizens.”
He doesn’t have to call for it. As long as they’re here, the Courts will take care of that. Do you REALLY think the founders of Massachusetts intended to permit gays to married? I certainly don’t think so, but the courts there found it right in their constitution.
Turning long-term guest workers into citizens is a no-brainer for a liberal court. They WILL get their Anmesty, once they are legalized.
Really Liz? Your posts are always the most bizarre. It's impossible to take anything you post seriously.

You seem to be all over the place. I stand by my point: If you get them to leave (and get rid of the ones that won’t), then they WILL NOT, EVER, get Amnesty. If they stay, they very well may get Amnesty, and there is not a damn thing a retired Perry can do about from his Cintra-provided beach home.
Do you REALLY think the founders of Massachusetts intended to permit gays to married? I certainly dont think so, but the courts there found it right in their constitution.
BTW:
Do you know Gov. Perry's position on that?
OUTSTANDING. That’s why I put up my comment. We should all get together after this and have a BBQ.
