The House of Representatives passed a measure Wednesday that would make a permit to carry a concealed firearm from one state valid in any state that allows citizens to carry concealed weapons. The vote was 272 to 154.

The National Rifle Association-backed measure had the backing of the vast majority of Republicans along with a coalition of pro-gun rights Democrats.

A matching bill has not been brought forward in the Democrat-led Senate. But gun rights advocates have previously nearly-successfully attempted to attach a similar measure to unrelated legislation.

Aint it funny the Republicans seem to wish all Americans could
benefit from their Bill of Rights protection—the Democrats simply want to make sure everybody gets sodomized.

It simply requires a state to honor a CCW permit if another state allows them. Some states like HI and IL don’t, so that doesn’t allow you to carry in them. For most of the country, its not a problem.

Lets see if “Pro Gun” Harry Reid lets this come up for a vote in the Senate?

The right to bear arms shall not be infringed.

Tell that to 1934.

I assume that is because you currently are a resident of California?

The congress has been a bit reticent in overriding a state’s prerogative to set the rules for it’s own citizens within it’s own state. I do agree with you on the matter of guns — the U.S. constitution says the people have the right to bear arms, and those rights should not be infringed by the states, since we passed the 14th amendment.

The law as written also will not allow concealed carry permit holders to carry in the one state that doesn’t allow concealed carry (also DC). Again a bow to state’s rights.

I’d be interested in knowing which of our current candidates would sign this bill if it made it to their desks. So far, I think Herman Cain is the only one who has indirectly indicated he would veto this bill. In April, talking at a campaign stop, he said that concealed carry was strictly a state issue, and the feds should have no say in the matter.

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer said in a statement before the vote that the bill "would cripple the ability of individual states to legislate on firearm safety and related public safety issues as their unique circumstances dictate."

ROTFLMAO!

Yeah, Steny Hoyer the newly born one concerned about federalism!

Hawaii allows concealed carry — it’s only Iowa and DC that don’t.

But can it pass the senate?

All that aside, is it veto proof?

“California doesn’t have a CC law?”

Sort of....

“This varies from county to county and from city to city. Rural counties are normally easier than suburban counties. Good Cause is the variable that applicants must deal with. Statute and case law require departments to make an individual evaluation of each applicant’s Good Cause. Some departments list on their policies certain professions and occupations that under some circumstances will satisfy their Good Cause requirements.”

In other words, sort of...

HI and DC have a no-issue policy, despite Heller. IA is now a RTC state.

CA, NY, NJ, MD, MA and RI are all may issue states. Their permit systems are arbitrary and corrupt. In general, in those states, its easier to get a permit in a rural jurisdiction than in an urban one. Rural jurisdictions in may issue states are effectively shall issue in practice.

I'm opposed to having the federal government involved in this. If this passes, then immediately following will be bills providing "guidelines" on how to grant CCW.

As it stands, reciprocity is decent and getting better. We don't need this.

Wow. I am waiting for all those freepers from the drug thread to come and condemn this legislation for interfering with the state right to legalize any damned thing it wants, because the Bill of Rights doesn’t apply to the states.

Should I hold my breath waiting for them??

I’ve got all the gun “rights” I need from the 1st Continental Congess, the US Constitution’s 2nd Amendment and my USMC pledge to my betters to refuse to crawl before any Nazi leftist, telling me what my gun “rights” might be.

How about this, you chicken-livered RINOs in the US House: Give me back Edison’s lightbulb.

You poodle-kissing, pants-wetting RINOs PROMISED to bring up legislation to repeal this stupid law. How about you gutless wonders start attacking the eco-fascists and give me my lightbulb.

Gad, I hate spineless Republican worms. Screw you, Republican Nancy-boys.

True. MA is probably most corrupt, though. They issue by contribution. The bigger, the faster you get the License.
