Syracuse police say they are investigating an allegation that Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine molested a team ball boy for more than a dozen years beginning in the mid-1980s.
Police stressed to Outside The Lines they are in the early stages of the investigation.
The alleged victim, Bobby Davis, now 39, told Outside the Lines that Fine molested him beginning in 1983 shortly before Davis entered the seventh grade. Davis, the team's ball boy for six years beginning in 1984, said the abuse occurred at Fine's home, at the Syracuse basketball facilities, and on road trips, including the 1987 Final Four.
In addition, a second man -- a relative of Davis -- told OTL that he was also molested by Fine around the same time as the first boy.
Fine is now in his 35th season as an assistant to head coach Jim Boeheim.

Now the hard thing will be sifting through all the claims. You KNOW there are going to be people who try to cash in on this. I can see a class action in the near future.
Another terrible story, but with that odd aspect to top it off.
“...guilt by association thats been heaped on people who had nothing to do with the situation.”
Time will tell...there may well be a LOT of association with what has gone on in Happy Valley, and we likely do not know all those associated...
You might consider changing your handle here...just some dutch uncle advice from an old Gpa...
Ok, my mistake. I agree that there are still facts to be determined with McQueary, although I guess it is undisputed that he left the kid in Saturday’s control when he left the scene. It must have been quite a shock, no question. I hope I would have tried to save the kid right there, but I can understand a little how you might have no frame of reference for something like that. He should have called the police, though. Whatever we think right now won’t matter, because all these parties will be run through the wringer in the civil suits, and the story will be much more detailed when that is over. And there will be many times the amounts given by Paterno to Penn paid to the victims.

The story is being heavily covered in the Syracuse TV market. Boeheim has pledged full support to the assistant coach. He says he’s never seen the alleged behavior and has known Fine for forty years. The young man came forward eight years ago, after the end of statute of limitations.
They’re in shock mode right now. Time will tell if outrage follows. Or maybe they’ll wait for the legal process to play out before they make the iconic Boeheim fall on his sword.
My guess is that the great schadenfreude tornado spent its energy in Pennsylvania.
Bobby Davis, the supposed “victim” was afraid of flying, his mother is quoted as telling ESPN. So, she says, he never flew to away games.
Yet he claims he was molested in New Orleans at the final four and in Hawaii— did he swim there?
Jim Boeheim says he 100% backs Bernie Fine and never saw the kid in his room. Boeheim is quoted telling ESPN that the guy is a liar and probably wants money.
I know people that went to college with Fine and they say he was obviously heterosexual, if you know what I mean. Fine coached local HS basketball for a while before SU— no problems. This guy also claims it was still happening when he was 27— Fine was old and fat then, he would have no power over some one.
If I am proved wrong— clean house just like at Penn State— but it doesn't add up. And while their at it, shut down ESPN for talking to the “victim” and getting his story but not reporting it in 2003.
not just sports...nr Bangor ME, a longtime minister jumped from a high bridge to his death. He served the community for decades and he and his wife were honored days before for their work with Boy Scouts. But right after those honors, the state police were informed he had had a relationship with a 12 yr old boy in the 70s (they were still friends up until the reverend’s death)...And someone sent a letter with these details, and the next thing you knew,
he killed himself. No suicide note.
He was supposed to have a huge funeral with police and firemen present. It has since been scaled down...
>>Police have concluded that he committed suicide by jumping from the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, which spans high above the Penobscot River connecting Hancock and Waldo counties.
The day after he died, details emerged that Carlson was under investigation for suspected child sexual abuse dating
back to the 1970s. Its not clear whether there was one alleged victim or more and its not clear how long the alleged abuse went on.
Dawn Krog of Bowdoin told the Bangor Daily News earlier this week that she spoke to a Maine State Police Detective last Friday about Carlson. Krog said her brother whom the BDN is not identifying because he is an alleged victim confessed to family members about an ongoing sexual relationship he had with Carlson
>>Additionally, leaders at the Katahdin Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America said they turned over a letter concerning Carlson to state police detectives on Monday that included allegations of child sex abuse. Carlson and his wife, Elaine, were honored by the Katahdin Area Council of Boy Scouts of America with its 15th annual Distinguished Citizen Award on Nov. 9.
That letter also was sent to Gov. Paul LePage, Boy Scout leaders and local law enforcement officials.
State police launched their investigation Nov. 10.
We can only hope and pray.
If this is true then Boeheim needs to go. I’m a hard-core Syracuse fan but if Boeheim is guilty of anything then he should be fired. I’m from a town near Syracuse and I’ve liked SU for a long time so this is a shock.
When did you go to Syracuse University? I’m a big Orange fan! I’m from the area but I live in FL now.
I remember Trishe and Seikaly quite well.
We don’t know that Boeheim is a pedophile enabler.
Bernie Fine & Barney Frank
So Davis was 21 years old and still allowed Fine to molest him. Something wrong with this picture.
Until ‘92, hubby until ‘93 ( he was a little slow ;)
It’s a very expensive school, that’s for sure. I have an uncle who went there long ago and I believe one of the things he did for fun was cramming himself into a phone booth with other frat members.
