Proud to Apply to Harvard (application will ask students if they are "queer")
Harvard Crimson ^ | November 21, 2011

In January, the Common Application decided not to include a question about college applicant’s sexual orientation or gender identity in its widely used application. Last week, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid William R. Fitzsimmons ’67 told The Crimson that despite that decision, Harvard College is considering giving applicants that option on its supplement in order to show prospective students that the College is a welcoming space for them. If it does, Harvard will join Elmhurst College, which was the first college in the country to pose such a question this year. Peer institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania are also considering such additions to their applications.

We welcome the College’s decision to offer students the option to self-identify as queer. Such a question does not force students to pick a label while offering students who wish to utilize the option the opportunity to show the College another aspect of their identity.

Harvard prides itself on recognizing the diversity of our student body, through demographic questions and public events such as Diversitas. Public recognition of diversity with regard to sexual orientation and gender identity is no different, and this move will reaffirm the College’s commitment to diversity in all its forms. As with other identity questions, providing applicants with the option of self-identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender shows that Harvard acknowledges and values these unique aspects of their identities.

It should be no secret that queer students are enthusiastically embraced at Harvard and have held top leadership positions in cultural groups, the Harvard College Democrats, and the Harvard Republican Club. The University covers a variety of medical options for transgender students and employees, has appointed openly gay housemasters, and recently opened a BGLTQ student resource center.

If you aren't disgusted enough, let me discuss the "medical options" Harvard offers for the "transgendered". New Policy Covers Transgender Health explains that Harvard health insurance covers "top surgery" (breast mutilation) but not "bottom surgery" (genital mutilation), but only because they could not find "qualified local providers" for genital mutilation (not even in the Boston area?).

Unfortunately this will spread like wildfire through the Ivy’s and then the state school and then all schools except MAYBE Christian Universities. Our country is hurtin pretty bad and I don’t know if we can go back to “normal” or not.

Boycott Harvard!

Tell your kids to refuse acceptance letters to Harvard.

Okay, BGLTQ is what? Bi, gay, les, trans, queer?

What is the difference between gay and queer?

I wonder if any of the straight applicants will become offended. I would. And then I’d raise hell with the “civil rights” ***holes until this is removed.

I do not know. This diversity crap started with AA in the Army. From 1970 with AA, then EEOC warrant officer by 1973, and now they have the fairies with the DADT BS.

We have seen the left legislate perversion to minority rule in America. UNREAL.And Obama has not one paper he ever wrote to show. Hell, the student editor of the Harvard Law Review had to write something? What did he write?

I told my son that if Hahvud sent him a letter giving him a full boat ride (never happen, he’s white, heterosexual and Catholic)

that I would personally drive him to the AD’s office just so we could personally say... “Are you kidding me? No way! Give it to Jose”!

The Q stands for Questioning, as in, the applicant is wondering whether s/he is straight or gay.

I think everybody should put themselves down as Q, to stand for Questioning why Harvard has such an inappropriate interest in the personal life of its applicants.

I dunno, but I like queer better. Never could get excited about calling ‘em “gays”....sounded too much like a Doris Day movie. “Faggot” is too British-sounding and “homo” is so Latin.

Queer works for me.

Well, it’s almost certain Harvard has developed a formula to avoid accusations of preferential treatment. You get no extra credit on your SAT or entrance qualifications if you’re a minority, undocumented alien, Bi, Les, Gay, Trans, Queer or Democrat. However, 200 points are deducted for any of the following: Asian, Christian, White, Republican, Libertarian or Southerner.

Free market capitalism is the solution. Hire conservatives. Do not hire the others. Liberals are not a protected class, yet. Let the liberals starve with their mega student loans.

Just a side thought for the few Harvard grads here ... I’m on the verge of sending my kids to college. Harvard makes zero sense from a financial standpoint, even less from a political one. Why would a real conservative waste their money on a Harvard education.

From what I've heard they've been taking being gay in admissions consideration for years.

In my small town, only about 2 or 3 have went to Harvard in the past decade or so and 2 of the three worked it into their essay or some way into their application materials that they were gay. I think one of them even had a girlfriend, but really wanted into Harvard. They beat out many more qualified students for the cause of “diversity”.

Also many colleges, including Ivies, consider "community service" more important then grades, being a top hard working athlete or having to have a job. 500 hours volunteering at the LGBT support group (sitting around talking about your gayness) and you're in— low gpa but you're gay and you volunteered to hang out with other gay students probably handing out condoms as your service project.

Some will lie and say “yes”, hoping this will give them favoritism with the liberal Harvard administration. Then if admitted and they have switched to heterosexual, the administration could expel them for fraud! Only in the USA could the gullible be so impressed.
