Gingrich brings common sense to immigration debate

Finally, there is a voice of reason on immigration among the front-runners for the Republican nomination, who until last week's debate seemed to be competing with one another to see who could take the craziest stand against Hispanic immigrants.

Newt Gingrich, the front-runner of the moment as conservative Republicans seek an alternative for ideologically zigzagging second-place contender Mitt Romney, broke with the pack in the Nov. 22 CNN debate of Republican hopefuls by stating an obvious: It is realistically impossible, economically risky and ethically wrong to seek the deportation of all 11.2 million undocumented immigrants in this country.

Gingrich said that ultimately, the United States will have to find a system where, after securing the border with Mexico and launching a guest worker program to fill jobs that Americans won't take, "you need something like a World War II Selective Service Board that, frankly, reviews the people who are here."

"If you've been here 25 years and you got three kids and two grandkids, you've been paying taxes and obeying the law, you belong to a local church, I don't think we're going to separate you from your family, uproot you forcefully and kick you out," Gingrich said.

For people who have been in this country for 25 years, Gingrich offered a "red card" program that would allow them to stay in this country, but not to get citizenship. Others who arrived more recently would be deported, he said.

Newt talks about illegal aliens who have committed no crimes. I can only assume he doesn;t consider fraud or identity theft illegal either.

RED CARD is code for amnesty and open borders.

Read this article by Mickey Klaus, liberal, but an excellent reporter and writer. He goes into detail on the RED CARD.

Anyone who doesn’t believe these boards will be stacked with businessmen who benefit from cheap labor, liberals, illegal alien supporters and bleeding hearts (like Newt) is a fool.

Twenty five years ago is when Reagan signed amnesty, newt voted for it and newt promised that was the only time the border would be secured. Now Americans and two ex wives know not to trust a newt. …

point is if they were here twenty five years ago they could have become legal then. Newt is slinging green crap at the wall again.

What we need to do is send some business owners who don't use e-verify and hire illegal workers to prison to send a message to other business owners and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Funny how Gingrich and the author offer up a straw man- that the other candidates are talking about deporting 12 million... It’s a shame, cause Gingrich was sounding so good in the debates, and then he pulls this garbage.

No E-Verify, no workee. No E-Verify, no welfare.

There you go. Unplug the magnet, and they'll stay home. Illegals depend upon the complicity of our government in their crimes to stay here.

They can't survive in America without jobs, and since they can't get good paying jobs, they also require welfare handouts to make it all work. Take those two things away, and the scourge will end overnight.

Or would that be "inhumane"?

Newt is slinging green crap at the wall again.

And that's bad. We're not even talking about that chunky, industrial crap. We're talking green.

Anyone who has been in the USA as an illegal for 25 years has no reason to become a citizen.

Memo to Gingrich: ‘Red card’ is path to amnesty

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2812454/posts

Fellow freepers RED CARD is code for amnesty. Newt is so arrogant he thinks his audience is too stupid to know this.

You left out turning off the government freebies spigot, and denying them jobs, via use of the E-Verify system. In my view, that’s even more important than securing the border. If you shut down the magnet, they’ll stop coming all on their own. In fact, they’ll self-deport, as they’re doing in Alabama.

Indeed I did leave out some good ideas. Of course, E-Verify should be mandatory.

However, realize that many have their own businesses, so to get a bank account everyone will need to show proof of citizenship. You agree?

About the border, the main reason to shut it down is for national security - although I suspect it is way too late for that one. I'm guessing that many that will do us harm have already come through the wide open borders.

“Next step is to require all that are living here illegally to register and put them through background checks.”

Right. Who is going to do that, the same folks who Ubama has directed to not enforce the immigration laws and registration requirements already on the books?

Forget Newt's half-baked plan. Self-deporting is efficient. It needs to start with employers who seek advantage by hiring illegals. Employers who hire illegals should be at risk of losing their business. Just as trucking companies who hire convicted DUI drivers are at risk.

No E-Verify, no workee. No E-Verify, no welfare.

No welfare period, at least for 10 years, the same as legal immigrants.

Actually, you are probably right. The same problem that comes up trying to deport them all presents itself in trying to get them to register.

Without taking the time to think too deeply on it, sure, I could live with that.

Some of my competitors strike me as being of questionable legality. I've met a few who could barely speak English, yet they're taking business away from me every day.

I actually met up with one of these guys at his house once. I was shocked and amazed to find that he lived in one of the ritziest areas of North Dallas. His house has to be worth at least $500K, which is just short of a mansion in this neck of the woods.

I'm not saying the guy's illegal, but you can bet your last dollar that every guy on his crew is.
