Why Washington is Shocked, Shocked By Newt Gingrich's Rise Over Mitt Romney
Fox News ^ | 12/09/2011 | Christian Whiton

One of the more enjoyable spectacles out of Washington lately has been the horror of establishment Beltway Republicans that Newt Gingrich just might be their presidential nominee, having jumped ahead of Mitt Romney in recent polls. The cause of this is simple if often disguised: Newt is the opposite of everything they just know to be true.

Take for example Peggy Noonan, who pronounced Gingrich all but dead in May, noting “I have yet to meet a Gingrich 2012 supporter.”

It is because they are out of touch, listening only to themselves and have no clue how truly disgusted the populace is with Washington DC “ruling class” ignoramusi.

Fox just had on Bryon York of National Review who commented on a poll that had Newt ahead in the Republican race, but behind when matched against Obama compared to Romney. York said that in spite of their dislike of Romney, conservatives want to defeat Obama so will chose the candidate best able to do that.

Total spin for Romney by the Washington elites and Faux News.

Whatever.

Just this morning Karl Rove said he expects Romney to drop out early. Sounds like he’s switched insiders to me.

Nice thing to remember is:

Gingrich understands, and he’s been vetted. As vetted as Palin. Gingrich has been through it before, unquestionably steeled and resolved from that first time. He’s had time to have learned the lessons as to how Alinsky can be destroyed once and for all.

The Alinsky of the left, and the Alinsky of the GOP establishment. Same thing, in truth.

Gingrich just might be the one we’re looking for.

I only hope Newt can be trusted after he wins.

Kinda like that twit liberal reporter in 1972 who could not understand how Nixon won because she didn't know any Nixon supporters.

That's what happens when you inhabit a fetid inbred political swamp.

Just to call your brand “compassionate conservatism” is to ADMIT that the left is right about conservatives having no compassion and to lose the argument. Leave the cutesy names behind and just do the right damn thing.

I heard Rove on Fox this morning. He must be absolutely flabbergasted. Newt has less money, less organization and soars. Romney is out spending Gingrich by millions and has a massive organization. Rather a stunning race. Newt is the spark in this race...he is the genius. Newt keeps his friends close and his enemies closer.
Jim Talent of MO criticizing Newt and Talent lost the last election here. Losers for Romney.

Problem with that is conservatives know that Romney cannot beat Obama despite the (probably biased) polling, plus these polls don’t mean crap at this point. Newt will eviscerate Obama in the debates, and if Obama refuses to debate he can taunt and ridicule Obama about it, provided he is willing to actually do that.

We will see if Newt really has it in him for a barroom brawl, which is what is going to be needed to get the commie out of the white house.

FOX and the Media are pushing Romney hard. For some reason all of the Beltway fears Gingrich and so do the Republican Elite. I wont vote for Obama and I will vote 3rd Party if Romney gets the nomination. I can vote for any of the other Republicans. The problem lies within the Beltway and DC and all of the Media including FOX is in the middle of it because of control.

Remember they didn't want Reagan either. Look how that turned out.

I am not a Newt fan but if the establishment hates him (left “D” and less left “R”) then I will have to reconsider and perhaps support him....

Noonan and Krauthammer don’t have a clue on how the republican voters think. They are in their elitist world mingling with the same ole Rove clones. I can just see them at their cocktail parties dissing Gingrich and praising Mitt. They sureley are shocked.
