At least two people were killed in clashes on Friday between demonstrators and troops in the worst violence since the start of Egypt's first free election in six decades, medical sources said.

A worker at a makeshift field hospital said a third person had died from gunshot wounds. At least 99 people were also injured.

Soldiers stormed an anti-military protest camp outside Egypt's Cabinet building, beating women with sticks and hurling chunks of concrete and glass onto protesters from the roof of the parliament in a resurgence of turmoil only a day after millions voted in parliamentary elections.

The Egyptian military leadership is the only thing standing between the Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt’s military arsenal. Egypt has a well developed military, many tanks.

On Israel’s border, it’s a serious threat.

If the military leadership can’t keep things under control, it’s going to be a very bad thing.

Of course the Western press will demonize the military, and try to portray the Muslim Brotherhood as a “U. S. Founding Fathers” type group. Not hardly!

Obama will probably urge the military to allow itself to be toppled, much like he did Mubarak.

NOT good.

Just how many tourists are choosing to spend their cash touring Egypt just now. Thank goodness we went there a few years ago. Just when will the moozlums loot the museums and destroy the historical sites?

Problem is....the military tried to pull some stunts like insisting their new constitution would contain no civilian oversight for the military budget.

All that did was galvanize the MB and liberal factions against them. In the end, it'll only benefit the MB.

All of which the MB will be running very, very soon. They pretty much swept the Parliamentary elections so it's only a matter of time.

Excellent question. You just watch as Europe crumbles. Our leadership will move them all here. At the same time, they’ll refuse to filter out those who are causing the problems in Europe right now.

This is planned obsolescence.

If you had an Islamic body in charge of your nation, would you want it to stand between you and the only body in the nation that might save your ass if the MB goes postal?

Egypt is not the United States. At least decades and probably more like centuries into the future, it will be ruled by Sharia Law.

We simply cannot make the military the bad guy, because they are tying to make the best of a bad situation.

The Egyptian military has been quite friendly with the United States. Imagine what comes with new leadership of that military. We could very easily be looking at a new Syria in short order.

Traditionally in Egypt, the military held the power. The president served at their approval.

If that does change, Egypt will turn into Syria in short order.

I erred a few minutes ago by stating Egypt might turn into Syria. The model would actually turn out to be more like Iran. Sharia Law would be the norm, and it’s very possible a theocracy could develop.

Could? I imagine the Copts who are being burned out of their churches and murdered in the streets might think that's already happening.

Egypt is lost and Obama did it on purpose.

I’m not saying they’re the bad guy. I just stated, properly, they did not help themselves with the attempted budget maneuver. It’s never a good thing to put the MB in a postion where they can be viewed as reasonable and with the people on an issue.

I don’t disagree with that in theory, but I’m not sure what the military’s options were.

If they agree to see their funding reduced, they could be agreeing to see an alternate military body set up and in time replace them.

Of course it would be more complicated and take some time, but something like that would be the eventuality IMO.

For about two weeks, maybe a month. I’m not sure that the Egyptians can maintain that stuff beyond that, from what I’ve read here and there. I would love to hear some informed opinion on that.

Can we send those soldiers to Zucotti Park?

Not only did they not wish to have civilian oversight, they wanted the budget to be secret...no accountability on overall size or apportioning. That’s probably not the best way to ingratiate yourself to the masses whether MB, Christian, or secular.

It seems I have read some reports like that over time. Still, a quick two week drive with hundreds of tanks, can ruin you whole day, if you catch my drift.

It would cause Israel to contemplate some serious preventative measures, that the rest of the world would condemn universally, of course.

Coupled with a drive from the North, Israel could be under a massive short term threat to the nation.

I have a hard time seeing Israel actually destroyed, as I don’t think that will every happen again. Still, this scenario isn’t something I’d like to see Israel face.

As you say, it would be good to have someone who knows more about Egypt’s ability to utilize those tanks for more than a short period of time.
