And this is newsworthy...why?
It’s true, fat has taken a bad rap. Empty carbs are the real culprit, like doughnuts. Eat all the fat you want, just don’t fry it.

Seems legit.
Big agra-business no doubt does *way* more business selling to vegetarians than it does providing animal feed to those farmers who supply the meat and poultry industry.
Cows get all fatty eating only grass and grain. The type of chickens that are raised for human consumption have to be killed at a very young age or their hearts explode.
The human body doesn't turn fat into fat - not even the "food pyramid" dumbasses ever dared to claim that. It's common knowledge that unburned calories and starches are what's turned into fat - so I'm not sure why anyone is still being taught the "fat makes you fat" lie.
Cholesterol is a waxy by product of vital organs. Cow cholesterol isn't turned into human cholesterol.
Bottom line: Unless you have some condition that dictates otherwise, eat all the meat you want. Avoid starches and sugars, most especially processed flours and sugars.
Meat is good!
So why are you a vegetarian, do you not like the taste of meat? I love salads, nuts, fruit, beans etc. but I am not vegetarian because I also like beef and pork as well as chicken, fish, eggs, etc.
Great book on food and health...

The Paleo Diet book, quite frankly, is annoying. The first 1/3 is all repetitive sales pitch. The middle 1/3 is the key info, and the last 1/3, as I remember, is recipes & references. BUT it does work, and I recommend looking into it regardless of this fluff. Also, IMO it is actually a bit less sustainable than Atkins, but a lot more healthy and a lot more worth sticking with, so I will. I absolutely have to teach myself to like fish. Up to now, I don't and it is an enormous limiter for my paleo efforts.
Both of my athlete sons are using it (Paleo for Athletes - modified a bit from the "starting point" book). They are experiencing very impressive results. The older of my boys is on a full athletic scholarship. He recommended paleo to my younger son after he and various teammates became stronger, lighter and developed increased cardio capacity using it. He had always been an exceptionally dedicated and disciplined eater before this, so when he reported benefits I took notice. So did his younger brother; he dove into it and lost around 10 lbs of weight he has been trying to peel away for over two years while consistently increasing his maximum lifts at the gym.
Regarding "No Jobs", some have speculated that Jobs' vegetarian diet may have turned his system acidic, and could have been a cause, or contributing factor of his cancer. While this can never be more than (mostly idle)speculation, the paleo info regarding this, and my own observed metabolic changes do make me go: "hmmmm...".
Eat all the fat you want, just dont fry it.

Perhaps it depends on the individual. I have unsuccessfully tried the Atkins diet twice.
I am not a believer in the "eat right for your blood type" hype but some people do better on a high meat diet and some do better on a high carb diet. We were not all punched out of the same mold.
You need to try different diets until you find the one that works for you

Get plenty of exercise. Have a diet as varied as possible. People of one racial/regional heritage may be different from others (e.g., equatorial/Asian, diet heavy in grains, heavy physical regimen vs sedentary, height, etc.). I’m not a doctor but have engaged in several extremely strenuous sports, duties and other activities over several decades.
We switched to paleo in November. We are losing weight and are not even trying. Best paleo breakfast ever: bacon, green onions, mushrooms, spinach, eggs and a little cheddar.
A few times, over the course of a decade, I tried to lose weight by following the mainstream advice (eat less, exercise more, eat less saturated fat, eat more “healthy” whole grains). It always led me to frustration, anxiety, powerful hunger pangs, and very little (zero permanent) weight loss.
Then about a year ago, I encountered the high-fat/low-carb/moderate-protein Atkins diet as explained by
Dr. Eric Westman

Gary Taubes

and Jimmy Moore (who lost 180 pounds on LCHF)

I also learned about the toxins in the industrial strains of wheat (http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/) and in vegetable oils.
In January 2010, I started eating low-refined-carb/high-saturated-fat and cut wheat and vegetable oil out of my diet. I lost 60 pounds in 6 months doing hardly any exercise and not experiencing the previous powerful hunger pangs. Since July of last year my weight has stabilized at what I weighed after high-school graduation. I’d thought I’d never see a normal weight again! My mood is very much improved, and I’m more energetic than I’ve been in years. My vital stats improved as well.
Due to a congenital hiatal hernia that causes stomach acid reflux and severe heartburn in my esophagus, I had been on a regular prilosec/protonix/nexium/prevacid/omeprazole prescription for over 20 years. After two months of eating this way, I no longer needed any of this medication! I cannot express to you how much this surprised and delighted me after 20 years of suffering — my GERD doctors always told me to avoid high-fat foods!
Last May my father-in-law had to have a gangrenous leg amputated due to diabetes. The other leg was also at risk. I told him about my new diet and how successful and easy it became after the first month. To my surprise he actually listened to me, decided to follow the diet, and lost 40 pounds. His high blood pressure cleared up, his high blood sugars came down, and his circulation in his remaining leg improved to the point that he is now walking around on it! (with a prosthesis on the other leg.) Needless to say, he is very enthusiastic about low-carb/high-fat.
One of the ladies who works in my dentist’s office, asked me how I lost so much weight. After I told her, she decided to try it and lost 20 pounds.
My wife, who was already at a normal BMI a year ago, has lost over 10 pounds (still normal) eating these high-fat foods with me.
In November, my mother finally decided to try eating this way too. So far, she too has lost 10 pounds in a couple of months.
After all the research I’ve done and experiences I’ve had in the past year regarding nutrition and health, I now believe the mainstream advice to society at large is erroneous and driven by bad science and perverse incentives. I say, eat like our ancestors did (whole foods). Cheap, processed foods like refined carbs and vegetable oils are new creations which didn’t exist until relatively recently in human history. Many people’s bodies just can’t cope with them long-term in the quantities they occur in the standard American diet.
With regard to the movie Fat Head, I saw and loved it. Tom Naughton is pretty good at making the science of nutrition entertaining. If you liked Fat Head, you may also enjoy his comedic talk at the Ancestral Health Symposium (”Science for Smart People”) here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXUldijo13g (Unfortunately the slides don’t seem to be redistributable under fair-use, so it’s hard to watch at first but gets better.)
