President Obama is putting plans in motion to give the Commerce Department authority to create an Internet ID for all Americans, a White House official told CNET.com.

White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt told the website it is "the absolute perfect spot in the U.S. government" to centralize efforts toward creating an "identity ecosystem" for the Internet.

Welcome to communists America. We have lost freedom and the cage is getting smaller and smaller. Soon citizens will be only allowed so much oxygen per day.

All he needs is to have his czar say it, and it will be so. Almost like God...

Obama has never cared one bit what the Constitution or any of the other branches of government have said. He just does what he wants anyway, and there’s no mechanism to stop him as long as normal people can’t charge him with crimes. The R’s don’t have the political will to take their duty of accountability (checking and balancing the other 2 branches) seriously.

So if I don’t have an Internet ID, does that mean I can’t use the internet?

Sure sounds like it.
Years ago I worked for a humane society, and we had just started chipping dogs/cats I was on the leadership team and voted against it. My objection was that it would move to people, assured that it would not I was the only one who voted against it.
There are parents now who are experimenting chipping their kids. We are here it appears......

And we WILL accept it. We have accepted income tax, driver licensing, Social Security, gun laws, obamacare, airport feelups, and 50 million dead babies; we can accept anything.

FUBO is right. All the fuss, lawsuits and Justice Dept. rantings about a voter ID but they can “deem” this necessary. Hypocrisy to the max.

Re your comment about the R’s and lack of political will....

....I assert that as bad as Obama is for this country, our total lack of an opposition party is every bit as much of the problem.

The government wants to know what we each say and think. Apparently tying it to our IP doesn’t actually prove identity. Now they want an individual pin and ID, and I thought Bush was bad in this regard. He’s a libertarian compared to this fascist Obama.

Since the abject failure of our USA govt. to protect us on 9-11 from 19 with box cutters, instead the blame and risk has been foisted upon each and every American as potential terrorists. It is an outrage how we are being manipulated and our rights trashed.

The new internet trend has been to require internet comments and users to register with Facebook, so that your every comment is tagged to your real name and Obama’s best friend Mark Zuckerberg profits even more. Since we must publicly post our political beliefs will we still have the right to secret ballot? Doubtful! The politicians have control of the voting machines so it doesn’t make any difference.

There are 10 types of people who understand binary:
Those who do, and those who don’t.

That’s what scares me, Lady Lucky. I’m afraid that we can accept anything.

For the after-school program that I work with I’ve got a group of kids that are going to be trying to figure out how a whole nation of decent Germans could have tolerated the extermination of a million Jews. We’ll learn the mechanics of the whole thing, but in the end I hope they realize how easily we humans are deceived and how easily we abandon even supposedly core beliefs when the going gets tough.

As I look at what’s going on here in the USA it scares me. Freedom really is never more than a generation away from extinction. Even one generation of evil or brain-dead people can destroy everything this country is about. It can be gone with the snap of the fingers. What the kids will find out is that tyrants are like a computer trojan; all they need is to be let in and then they take over the whole system while the person who let them in stands aghast with no way to stop it.

They keep talking about consensus, compromise, etc. Our system isn’t set up for compromise. It is set up for checks and balances. Without an opposition party the whole system fails. As long as Senators, for instance, think that any judicial nominee has a right to be approved, or that it is “mean” to require them to be law-abiding judges who respect the law and conform their decisions to the rule of law... we don’t HAVE a check or balance for the judiciary. These Senators by their sheer political agenda have sliced that part out of an intricate system that has to be in balance in order to work at all.

We have GOT to get some critters in there who realize that the very existence of this country depends on them being willing to be the OPPOSITION which holds the other budding tyrants in check.

What we are talking about is enhancing online security and privacy, and reducing and perhaps even eliminating the need to memorize a dozen passwords, through creation and use of more trusted digital identities," Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said at an event Friday at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, according to CNET.com.

Clearly Secretary Locke hasn't any comprehension of computing and computer science. He must think it's like Hollywood films and TV.
