If Sandusky were properly in jail, his grandchildren could visit him there, there would be no Skype privileges, and he could see his attorney there as well. Will the judge realize this and keep things as they are, or will he cave?

If Sandusky were properly in jail, Generally, in the US, we wait until trial and a guilty verdict to jail people.

Typically, people accused of this many counts are given no bail and therefore would be in jail pending the trial.
To: JRandomFreeper
IF you can post bail that is true.
IF I was charged with those crimes my bail would no doubt exceed the value of my net worth which is not $1.98.
Sandusky is getting special treatment as a rich sports figure.Nothing new.

In Pennsylvania bail is set only to guarentee appearance in court. Except in capital murder cases the defendant is entitled to bail.

No, we jail potential (accused) miscreants, post them before a judge who sets bail or remands.

Generally, in the US, we wait until trial and a guilty verdict to jail people. True enough. I've seen a lot of people go easy on Sandusky: he deserves his day in court. We will eventually decide if he is guilty and what his punishment might be.
Paterno, on the other hand, was found guilty without a trial, fired, humilated, and hounded to death. [shrug]
IMO, Sandusky has received much kinder treatment than Paterno and I cannot understand it.

His attorney, Joe Amendola, has said that family members are among those that brought accusations against the former Penn State defensive coordinator. It's unclear if those investigations led to any charges. Unclear to the news reporter, or they won't even tell Sandusky? "Hey, we're going to charge you with molestation." "Molestation of whom?" "That's for us to know and you to guess." I don't think so....

The troubling part for me isn't him going to trial without retention or the judge maybe refusing him visitation rights....what troubles me is did the family bring accusations after he was arrested?
If they knew, and didn't bring this to the attention of the authorities, aren't they complicit???? Is Jerry (not saying he's innocent or quilty) wilingly taking the fall for a "family problem" and feels his grandchildren are in no more danger with him than with the grandchildren's families? This whole thing is a little odd.

This is weird, but part of it may have been Paterno’s stonewalling in the presence of an indefinite stink. Stonewalling and hiding often incenses the public worse than being an open criminal does.

Didn't he get processed and post bail to ensure that he would be there for his court date? And weren't restrictions placed on him?
I'm ok with lawful justice working it's course.
Then, hang him if the verdict is guilty.

Could have been one of those “too ashamed to talk about it till now” situations. (I’d ping Salamander except she has expressly asked me not to do so. She suffered from molestation too and this saga tears her up.) In which case it seems a bit cheeky for Jerry to ask, at least this quickly, to be visiting with those folks. I’d think he’d respect their reticence.

If he were my children's grandfather he wouldn't be in jail. He'd be six feet under. In fact, he would not have been able to have had an open casket. Just sayin’. If that makes me a bad mommy then so be it. I can take that rap. There are worse things that I could be accused of.

Just as a comparison, a Philly high school baseball coach charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy, was
ordered held on $2 million bail a few months before Sandusky was arrested.
Let me make it clear...that was for ONE victim, which earned the accused a $2 million bail. Several counts , but nowhere near the 52 counts against Sandusky for TEN alleged victims, over a 15 year period. Sandusky got about $4800 per count against him. This is why I think his bail was set extraordinarily low.

I’m right there with you on that.Evil needs to eradicated whenever and whereever its found. And I dont rely on the cops either.

Oh, and amazingly, a month later the high school baseball coach was still in jail, since he hadn't come up with the bail at that point.
Coach remains jailed on $2 million bail
What a shame that he wasn't connected to the social elites in Philly like Sandusky is, or else his bail could've been reduced to something more "reasonable". You know, so he would show up at his court dates.
