Why Mitt Romney’s Electability is Not Inevitable
RedState ^ | January 29, 2012 | Ben Howe

After many months of getting a pass, it seems that the other candidates are willing to finally start hitting Governor Mitt Romney on his major weakness: The Massachusetts Health Care Insurance Reform Law. The bill, known by most as Romneycare, is (as we all have been saying for many moons) the basis for the much maligned Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise affectionately known as Obamacare.

I’ve been in endless debates and discussions with Romney supporters and surrogates for some time now as they paint a beautiful picture of the ultimate State’s Rights battle. They claim that Romneycare vs Obamacare isn’t about socialized medicine vs the free market. They say it’s actually the core of the Federalist struggle and that Romney will channel Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and march onto the capital steps, fulfilling the dreams and desires of tea partiers nationwide by finally standing up and saying, “Enough is enough! Let the state’s make their decisions Obama! Your days of tyranny are at an end!” And they all rejoiced.

Yet, continually when Romney is approached on this subject in the debates with fellow Republicans, he seems incapable of defending any other point and seems befuddled at the idea that there might be more than one part about Obamacare that American’s had wholly objected to. For him, it’s all about the mandate.

But it’s important to keep in mind, Mitt Romney does not object to the concept of mandates. Far from it actually.

I have four books by Ann Coulter, but all were purchased before she went gaga over Mitt Romney and I won't buy any more.

She's always been rabid, resembling one overstimulated on a Class A narcotic or a pharmaceutical amphetamine--that's her personal schtick.

But her ethos has been conservatism--now she is doing the Leni Reifenstahl for a soulless opportunist.

She joins Meagan McCain, John McCain, Bob Dole, Chris Christie, Karl Rove--and Donna Brazille.

We're given to understand she dated Bill Maher--that in itself is impossible to justify with conservative principles: never has there been a more tasteless attacker of any value regarding life and living.

If one can embrace Bill Maher, one has no decency--and she purports to name M. Stanton Evans the greatest living authority on Sen. Joe McCarthy.

Consider the lines, "Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

I had the pleasure to watch M. Stanton Evans, then editor of the now-defunct Indianapolis News, destroy in debate Dr. Robert Risk the head of the Indiana Civil Liberties Union, the latter accompanied by bearded Marxist rabble with whom we YAF members later engaged, it being 1964 when conservatism was not at all popular, the American people preferring a six-trillion-dollar war on poverty, Medicare, and a losing Vietnam War.

Now comes the so-called conservative Ann Coulter pushing the hollow man.

She is powered by ego and the thrill of fame; not by principle.

RomneyCare = ObamaCare in all respects. It is not free market, it is not conservatism and it is not states rights. Just opposite. RomneyCare is a top-down, government devised, government approved, government forced, socialist, intrusive, oppressive, mandate against the free citizens of a state. It’s no less socialist, no less intrusive, no less oppressive whether forced on the people at the state level or forced on the people at the federal level. It’s the same damn thing!!

RomneyCare = ObamaCare = government force = oppression = socialism = taxpayer funded abortion = death panels = tyranny!!

We are the resistance!!

Shove Romney/RomneyCare down our throats now, we shove Romney up your Donkeys in November!!

Rebellion is ON!!

NO ROMNEY, NO WAY!!

Mitt happens!!

I will go see a hypnotist to help me block out my mind what I had just done.

Just stay home. Save yourself the guilt. That's what I'd be doing (and believe me, I've always been a "vote for the most conservative person you can get" voter, but Romney is Obama light. Can't go there.)

Romney is a professional campaigner. He ran for president before and lost the nomination to McPain. Consider the MILLIONS the Romney campaign has spent so far. MILLIONS more than Newt to win in Fla and he still had to smear, attack, bash and bring in the gop establishment. I think the smears are going to backfire! even if Newt loses Fla. IF he goes on the offense and hits Romneys socialist record and promotes his OWN conservative ideas...Newt will win. Why did Newt win big in SC? he went after the media and promoted his own agenda. That is what the voters want. One of Mitt’s staffers said “we don’t just want to BEAT Newt..we want to destroy him” and this tactic may very well backfire.
Romney is struggling to get delegates and he needs 1245 to get the nomination. I don’t see how the Paul or Newt voters will swing his way. In the meantime...Santorum should get OUT!

Mitt Romney is endorsed by Former President Bob Dole and by Former President John McCain as well.

Both of them are experts on electability, as they were victorious in their own Presidential campaigns.

Thus, their contention that Mitt Romney is the most electable should be respected.

Raise a glass to fond memories of the Dole Administration and the McCain Administration.

Your conclusion is on the money, as is your entire post.

Thank you, Phil!

I am reminded of what Carville had to say about dragging money through certain residential areas... I do not think ‘gated’ communities are exempt. They have been ‘bain’-washed.

Thanks. I won't claim it as original but I have never seen the two words put together before to describe Romney capital-ISM.

I don’t care if it’s original or not, that there is funny...and astute...I don’t care who you are. lol

BTW, I’ve not seen it before so I will cite you as the source. What a great tagline!

Thanks for the much needed laugh! ;o)

You are very kind. I have had a dour day, and it is good I can find humor to point out the obvious in two words. I am glad it gave you a laugh more so than I might be original.
