Conservatives Won't Have Romney Shoved Down Their Throats
USNews.com ^ | Feb 1, 2012 | By Judson Phillips, founder of Tea Party Nation

If former House Speaker Newt Gingrich continues in the Republican primaries, not only is he doing more good than harm, he may be the only candidate left who can save the Republican Party.

The Republican establishment is bound and determined that it is going to impose a Mitt Romney on us. Conservatives do not want former Gov. Mitt Romney.

You see, we have danced this dance before. We had Sen. John McCain shoved down our throats in 2008. How did that work out for us? We have George W. Bush, who barely won his races, and before that we had former Sen. Bob Dole, who blew it, and George H.W. Bush, who could not win re-election against an unknown governor from Arkansas!

We conservatives have had it.

The conservative and Tea Party bloc of the Republican Party supports Newt Gingrich.

We conservatives held our noses and voted for John McCain in 2008. That did it for us. We are not doing it in 2012. The Tea Party overwhelmingly supports Gingrich over Romney. One exit poll showed Gingrich getting 45 percent of the Tea Party vote versus 14 percent for Romney.

Gingrich is the only one in the race who has a chance of uniting the Republican Party. If Romney wins the nomination, a quarter and a half of the Tea Party voters say they will not vote him in the general election. That is a ticket to defeat.

By staying in the race, Newt holds out the possibility of saving the Republican Party...

they have ignored us and they live in their elitist pro homosexual pro cross dressing, establishment, cocktail party circles, add some talk show hosts too and FOX.

It is high time they started to read sites like this and then understand why the base and conservatives are pissed off and why many of us will not support or vote for Romney after the way he has conducted himself.

I forced myself to read the entire article.

Interestingly enough, the reporter gets it. By Newt Gingrich staying in and winning some primaries, he just might save the Grand Old Party from a severe split or the formation of a third party were Romney to become the early nominee.

GO NEWT!

GO TEA PARTY!

STOP ROMNEY!

Jim,
Sorry, but i gotta tell ya something... If people do not get to the polls and vote, mcromney is gonna win it... if it goes to a brokered convention, the party bigwigs will make sure mcromney wins it... the only way to get mcromney out of this is at the ballot box... and there are plenty of people ( including a number of so called freepers ) creating an aura of “voter apathy” in other words, do not even bother to vote, because my guy will win.... along with other tactics.... newt lost florida, and there are over 2 million reasons why... over 2 million registed republicans did not even bother to go and vote... THIS is what mcromney is counting on, THIS is mcromneys tactic..

Fine with me.

Personally I think there will be a Tea Party challenger on the ballot in most red states anyway if Willard is the R candidate.

Then Baraq wins with a Clintonian plurality similar to 92.

I remember back in 2007 a very smart guy told me “there’s no way Americans are gonna elect a guy named Hussein as POTUS”.

And amazingly it looks like we’re going to do it twice, even after Baraq has totally failed at the economy which is usually THE predictor of elections.

Baraq’s going to retire in 2017 like an undefeated champion boxer who never fought anyone with a winning record.

Great column. It seems we have much more to lose if we hold our noses because it just reinforces their underhanded tactics as it sens the message we will allow the left to hi-jack our party year after year, decade after decade.

I pledge my vote and my sacred honor to the conservative in the 2012 race - even if nobody has ever heard of him or her.

If Romney is the GOP nominee, (and I don't give a rip who's his VP) I will write-in Sarah Palin.

Guaranteed.

I’d like to see a massive write in effort for “Say no to magic underwear!” just to embarrass Romney.

I have now come to the conclusion we have some right dopes on our side just like the left has. I've been arguing with a Romneybot for the last few posts and they still do not get anything you say to them and then we wonder why we are in the mess we are. Same as voting for a guy which you know has not a hell in chance of even coming second. Why do that and then help Romney and the establishment? Then there is other issues like some on here who have joined and then say they have no problem with men marrying men etc. It';s a conservative website and when they are called out they state they have freedom of speech

Unfortunately, the GOP and the elites believe that a weak-ass republican candidate will win over the new base that they continually court. You know, the independents and conservative democrats. As usual, the GOP thinks that they can roll over the conservatives, because where else are we going to go, right?

I drew the line with McCain and took a lot of grief over it. Never will I vote for Romney. Ain't happening. Hoping that the GOP elites wake up soon. Don't care who gets the VP nomination. They could nominate Drew Brees for VP and I ain't voting for Romney.

Gingrich/West for me, please.

Great post, Romney is what they used to call an 80%-er. He agrees with the Democrats on 80% of what they believe. He believes in the individual mandate but only if it doesnt cut medicare. He believes we should withdraw surge troops from Afghanistan, but in December instead of September. He wants to increase the minimum wage, a few percent every year. The list goes on.

Anyway, count me in as a conservative who is very open to going with a third party if Willard is nominated. I don’t care if we pull a reverse Paul and take over the Libertarian party or start the Conservative Party of the United States from scratch. If the GOP is able to ram Willard down our throats I am done.

I checked your forum posts. That on resides in CA and doesn’t like Romney. S/he just knows CA will go to the Marxist. Really a shame and tragic when votes don’t matter. CA is solid demonic-rat.

I’m beginning to wonder whether Newt could win in the general election anymore. Why? After witnessing what went down in Florida the past week, I am convinced that, should Newt win the nomination, many in the GOP-E will work to undermine him, the way they did with Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell.

Been too glum over the Republican party's increasingly maniacal insistence upon running a plasticized pompadour as its anointed candidate, come November, to post much of anything lately.

This can't really be happening, can it? I mean... there ARE over 311 million of us to choose from, after all. ;-/
