A Colorado high school student quit the school choir after an Islamic song containing the lyric "there is no other truth except Allah" made it into the repertoire.
James Harper, a senior at Grand Junction High School in Grand Junction, put his objection to singing "Zikr," a song written by Indian composer A.R. Rahman, in an email to Mesa County School District 51 officials. When the school stood by choir director Marcia Wieland's selection, Harper quit.
"I don’t want to come across as a bigot or a racist, but I really don’t feel it is appropriate for students in a public high school to be singing an Islamic worship song,” Harper told KREX-TV. "This is worshipping another God, and even worshipping another prophet ... I think there would be a lot of outrage if we made a Muslim choir say Jesus Christ is the only truth."
But district spokesman Jeff Kirtland defended the decision to include the song.
"Choral music is often devoted to religious themes. ... This is not a case where the school is endorsing or promoting any particular religion or other non-educational agenda. The song was chosen because its rhythms and other qualities would provide an opportunity to exhibit the musical talent and skills of the group in competition, not because of its religious message or lyrics," Kirtland told FoxNews.com in an email while noting that the choir "is a voluntary, after-school activity."
"Students are not required to participate, and receive no academic credit for doing so," he said.
At an upcoming concert, the choir is scheduled to sing an Irish folk song and an Christian song titled "Prayer of the Children," in addition to the song by Rahman.

Christians are going to have to learn to network and play social warfare in this country so that social Marxists are afraid to make them the brunt of diversity hate and disrespect.
They need to organize and go after the music teacher and principal big time and in a coordinated fashion until they are gone. They need to teach their children about cultural cleansing and tell them they are the targets and to speak out against the agression and to not cooperate. You don’t do it in religious terms; you do it over job performance in every way you can think to find fault and complain in hoards to the school committee. Year in and year out until they are gone. It’s called isolating the target and harassing until every Marxist understands it a bad thing to turn the community against you. You take over the school board.
Social marxists are trying to cleanse the culture all the way and make Chrisitans isolated and abused strangers in our own land. Christians who deny God, no matter their excuses for going along with these aggressive pigs, will be denied by God. That goes for their children as well. It’s not a joke. Social Marxism is serious soul crushing business. After they crush your soul, they will crush your bones.
The headline wasn’t over his quitting, it was over the reason for his quitting.

If he was being threatened with a failing grade I would object. If he was being forced to sing against his will, that would be wrong. He was offered an opportunity to sing. He didn’t like the program so he decided not to sing. That’s that. Nothing to see here.

The public schools say that “Silent Night” is unconstitutional in public schools, but that this passes Constitutional muster. If that’s not a total contradiction, I don’t know what it. How can this make any sense to anyone?

I support the student. Further the Irish to not adhere to a political doctrine of killing us. BIG differrence! And i don't see Christians threatening to behead us either. So that is not an arguement. Additionally the poster is right...Islam is not a race...it's a political ideology masked as a religion. If they're going to compare then they might ask if they'd allow singing the Nazi anthem...or Communist marching songs. Better to compare apples to apples.
There is no seperation of Islam from their political agenda...it is one and the same and a complete way of life centered around submission to their dictatorial leadership...they call their religious leaders.
