I’ll probably get some flack for this, but I think trophy hunting is worthless. If you’re going to hunt, don’t just take an animal’s life for no reason other than your own vanity. That’s really all trophy hunting is, an expression of vanity, which is a sin.

If you’re gonna hunt, put the animal to use and eat the damn thing.

The ex-kitty would make an awesome rug. Would that count?

I doubt it would taste good. Perhaps he can give it to some Chinese restaurant.

It's more like pest control. That cat is a predator that reduces the supply of game deer for hunters, as well as killing livestock, pets, and the occasional human.

That wasn't a trophy hunt. People lost their livestock to that cat. That's a predator hunt. We're having a similar problem locally with coyotes. I plan to kill some. And I'm not going to eat them. Understand?

Which of the Ten Commandments states "Thou shalt not be vain."? Thank in advance.

I just love it when people make up sh** that's no where in the Bible to suit their own personal bigotries....

Would you source that claim, please?

It’s not trophy hunting it’s predator control. Over population of ANY species throws off the balance of nature. If hunters didn’t do it the state would. In Alaska they allow wolf hunting out of airplanes because it’s impossible to reach their territories by any other vehicle much less on foot.

Sorry, but you’re way off base here. This Richards fellow is a noble and courageous man. He traveled all the way from California to one of the most remote areas of Idaho, trudged 8 hours in snow and cold to kill this mountain lion so his dog, Mr. Snuggly, 977 miles away, could sleep safely tonight. And he isn’t smiling so broadly because he enjoys killing animals for the fun of killing animals. Nope, it’s just a natural reflex when the photographer told him to, “Say Cheese!”

I would agree with you except in the cases of nuisance animals or population control. South Texas needs its deer hunters backstrap steak or not.

How do you know he won't eat it? Mountain lion is a delicasy, though it' s the only big game animal which Oregon doesn't require the hunter to keep the meat from. (Man, that's a tortured sentence.)

You obviously know nothing about hunting. It has very little to do with vanity.

The pictures maybe, not the hunt itself.

Most people who hunt even trophy hunt put the meat of their kill too use. If they personally do not like the meat in many states it can be donated too NPO's too feed needy persons or ones who's prescribed diets such as heart patients allow game meat over say beef as safe too eat. Some of the most devout wildlife conservationist I know and knew were trophy hunters. They hunted for years, killed game and consumed it, but decided to simply make the hunt more of a challenge. IOW they turn away easy kills many times over.

This animal is not a game animal in the sense humans consuming it for food but rather is a predator that belongs no where near people. As well problems exist in National Parks most of which ban hunting all together. The animals such as bears and hogs wander out into populated areas and become a huge nuisance and public safety risk. Anyone who hikes in some such parks take considerable risk as firearms are forbidden inside most parks. That policy needs changed.

So what happens when hunting slacks off? Nature becomes unbalanced. Case in point is Coyotes another predator. They never were native too my state at any time. But as food became more plentiful for them due to drop in hunting pressure of their food chain {deer} they crossed the Mississippi and now I have to dodge the loathsome things driving at night. Having deer jumping out into headlights is dangerous also. I'd like too see a bounty on Yotes actually. Much like if Florida was smart they would place a bounty of non native animals such as the Pythons some Idiots allowed to escape or purposely released to the wild. It would gives hunters income for their efforts and tallents and rid the state of an animal that has no natural enemy too control it.

Trophy be it the biggest deer, the fastest race, the largest airplane, the highest factory production, is what advanced civilization. Also trophy animals are not that easy to get. Think about it. The animal became such because it out smarted all others. There is a nice 10-12 point buck on my place 3 hunters including myself missed. That is on a 28 acre area BTW. Three smaller deer were harvested last season from by about 4 persons I allow to hunt it. I don't hunt much myself as my arthritis hates sitting in the cold all day.

Those things kill people. That’s why our ancestors, who seem to have been considerably smarter than we are, shot bears and wolves and mountain lions until they stopped coming around.
