I am new to Free Republic. I look forward to being a small part of this community.
I see by many of the postings that most of the posters on this website are ANTI-Romney. That is good because I am too. I am a conservative from Tallahassee, Florida.
I am torn between Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. Reading some of the postings I see there are passionate folks on the Newt side as well as on the Rick side.
I am leaning toward Rick Santorum because I think he can best beat Romney in the Primary and frankly I think ANYONE can beat Obama in the general. So my gut tells me to support the most conservative in the race.
I am also a Christian Homeschooling dad so you might see why I favor Rick Santorum but I can support Newt in the general election should he win the nomination. I don't think I can stomach voting for Romney though.
Any advise for a newbie?

Personally I think Newt can better vocalize the basics
of conservativism better than Rick. I think he will
beat the stuffing out of Obama but they aren’t going
down easy. If you thought the primary was rough get
ready for what the left is bringing.

We are going with Santorum but would be thrilled with NEWT too... watch out though, you might be eaten alive by some very sincere Newt supporters! lol

Advice #1: Don’t post vanities as a newbie. Instead, join existing threads where these topics are being discussed and ask your questions there. You’ll be surprised how many responses you get that way. (I only say this because I anticipate you are about to get flamed.)
Advice #2: Vote your conscience. JimRob is pro-Newt. I personally think he is very smart and wonkish, but is not particularly “likeable” which will hurt him in the election. Plus, he has baggage, even though some of it is debatable. That being said, I voted for him in the SC primary just to be sure Romney didn’t win. At that time, Santorum wasn’t a viable choice in SC. I would have be more proud to vote for Santorum. My wife did. Now that he’s sort of on-the-rise, she can feel better about her vote than I feel about my Gingrich vote.
When all is said and done, I’m not overly thrilled with the field as a whole. I probably would still be backing Cain if he was still in, solely because he was an outsider who wasn’t afraid to propose radical ideas. (I’d love to know why those accusers have all disappeared now!)
