How Romney can Supercharge Conservatives
American Thinker ^ | April 30, 2012 | Bruce Walker

Conservatives will be enthusiastic about the 2012 election, but only in a negative way because of grim danger of a second Obama term. Kerry, Gore, and Clinton were crummy politicians, but compared to the quiet malevolence of Obama, those Democrats were Boy Scouts. The problem with conservatives is that since Reagan left office, we have had nothing to vote for; George H. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and John McCain treated conservatives like barely tolerated stepchildren.

Will the Republican presidential campaign this time be as condescending and dull? Mitt Romney, almost unnoticed, has done something no other Republican nominee has done before, at least since 1964: Romney has openly described himself as a "conservative" -- indeed, as "severely conservative." Reagan did not do this, and Goldwater really did not, either. They espoused conservative values, but neither man went out of his way to describe himself as a conservative. Romney has also explicitly attacked the media and the "vast left-wing conspiracy" (Ann Coulter reminds us that Romney, for Massachusetts, was conservative.)

Romney's public declarations suggest a candidate who has grasped that America is involved in an ideological civil war and who has determined to take sides. Beyond that, the scornful treatment of Ann Romney by the media may have touched a deep nerve in the otherwise profoundly sedate Romney. The campaign may reveal this Romney more.

But there is one sure way in which Romney could seal the deal with conservatives: if on June 6, 2012, Scott Walker survives his recall election, Romney should choose Walker as his running mate. There would be no clearer way for Romney to signal the direction of his campaign. The Wall Street Journal has called this recall election "the most important non-presidential election of the decade." Conservatives already view the recall election as absolutely...

Walker also signed a shall issue concealed carry permit law in Wisconsin. I had hoped Walker would have run in the primary.

Mitt is worrisome. He flip flops and a look at the underlying Mormonism he pledges himself to shows a “God” that also flip flops. Will his “God” who told him to be conservative today tell him to back off of that tomorrow?

I can’t do again what I did last time, voting for a ticket hoping with every fiber of my being that the POTUS would up and die the day after the Inauguration.

Out of the ashes of Obama, we end up with a liberal flip flopper politician running as the leader of the conservative movement..sorry, I mean the new moderate movement to finish off the conservatives. This is the best it gets, we are in big trouble. Talk radio didn't do a good enough job to help us to get a better candidate. ( can't believe the insiders are getting their way soo easy to have one party rule-it's right in your face, Now) I am a dedicated voter and see it! Imo.

Walker wouldn’t be a bad choice, but I still think this is where we have to have Sarah. Walker would fade into the background and wouldn’t do much to keep Mitt in line. Sarah would be part of the process and she would definitely keep Romney on the straight and narrow.

Romney CANNOT "supercharge" conservatives because Romney cannot be trusted.

Sarah would put Romney in jail if he got off the straight and narrow...

Never happen.

I’m not sure what Romney is saying there either. Conservative as in conservative cult to impose on America? What is it? Or is it a personal conviction of his he freely chooses and believes to be an asset for America?

We are living in a day and age when they prefered they spanky looking slaves than being with the free, I fear. And Romney does not strike me as an admirer of the conservative and the free, so to speak, as much as a worshiper of the service thereof.

Coulter’s statement that Romney was “conservative for Massachusetts” is meaningless, since Karl Marx would be considered conservative in Massachusetts.

Reagan, Goldwater, and the others didn’t have to call themselves “conservatives”. Actions speak louder than words.

Too bad that America has nowhere to go but toward conservatism as a result of the avowed Marxist elected by the 'touchy, feely' crowd who fell for the First Black President meme and find themselves with their backs against the wall (broke, unemployed, house-poor, etc.) and there is no conservative there for them.

This is too much like "not having a gun when you need it". People are going to the drawer and it (the conservative) isn't there. Meanwhile, the Zombies are smashing-in the front door. Yet, just outside in the garage (might as well be in Alaska) we have an AR-15 and two thirty round magazines but we can't get to them because the media made it off-limits. The media has made it off-limits. THE F9CKING MEDIA HAS MADE IT OFF LIMITS! I'm too pissed to continue. Go Gorilla.

Here we have another conservative pundit engaging in self-delusion.

This is truly getting pathetic.
