(CNSNews.com) – A White House chef told health professionals on Monday that obesity endangers national security as well as people’s health – and that’s why he and many other people have embraced First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign.
“What motivates us is not just the fact that one in three Americans will have diabetes in their lifetime if we don’t change course, but the impact that it is having on our economy, on our health care system or our kids’ ability to learn, Sam Kass said. “It’s not just the fact that obesity may be our nation’s greatest national security threat, although all those reasons are of vital importance,” he added.
Kass was the personal chef for the Obama family before they moved into the White House. He’s now an assistant chef and food initiative coordinator at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
On Monday, at a “Weight of the Nation” event hosted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Washington, Kass said he and Mrs. Obama are “dedicating the rest of our lives to the well-being of the next generation.”
“This is our life’s work,” Kass said. “The first lady dedicated her time and passion at the White House because this issue meant most to her as a mother and as an American.”
Kass said “Let’s Move” has made a difference since it was launched in February 2010.
On Feb. 9, 2012, marking the initiative’s second anniversary at an event in Iowa, the first lady heard “touching personal stories” about “how Let’s Move had changed their lives, how they’re eating wholesome food and having fun moving,” Kass said.
“The energy of those 14,000 kids dancing and cheering for fruits and vegetables – it was amazing – reminds me of just how far we’ve come from those conversations around the kitchen table in Chicago to those first plants we put in the ground (at the White House),” Kass said.
Ahead of Kass’ remarks, Mrs. Obama addressed the crowd by video: “We are truly making a difference,” but there is still "a long way to go,” she said.
Hundreds of health professionals from the public and private sector attended the event, which included a wide range of sessions covering everything from food marketing to children, weight bias and discrimination, healthy hospital food and beverages, and a panel discussion on “New Angles on Implementing a Healthy School Food/Nutrition Environment.”

He is right, A Fat Lazy populace is a security threat, especially when a large majority of the fat lazy people are sucking up the money in EBT cards that should be used to secure the borders and protect us from EMP attacks....
The fat and lazy are also a threat because they will sell national security down the river at the ballot box for the promise of free gubermint goodies....

I guess Moochelle was just too tired to cook anything for her family after slaving all day at her $300,000 hospital job. Kass started his in home cooking business in 2007, and was probably recommended by Valerie Jarrett who knew him prior to the Obamas. Wonder if he's gay.
LOL. Uh, I hate to break it to you, but I suspect Michelle is going to drop this nonsense as soon as she leaves the White House.

It would be nice if all of us who maintained a healthy weight were insulated from sharing the costs of those who do not. But that’s not the case. Insurance premiums, medical procedures, medications, doctor visits, all cost more for everyone because of the health care required by people who have obesity related issues.
We pay a share of the disability incurred by firefighters and EMT’s who injure themselves attempting to carry/haul/drag 400 lb. people out of their homes.
So although it’s tempting to make light of the whole issue, it bugs me that people who are obese are reaching into my wallet to subsidize their lack of self control.
I see nothing wrong with education, but do agree that mandates on what people can buy or sell is going too far.

Yep, I’m overweight - so is Mrs. IOTN. We’d love to afford a personal chef to cook healthy balanced meals 3x a day, we’d also love to afford personal trainers to help us stay fit and trim.
Shoot, I’d even love to have some free time in which to exercise. But, alas, no. See, we both WORK for a living - 10, 11, 12 hrs a day - and by the time we get home, neither one of us has the energy to “get up and move” for an hour. Spare time is spent on errands and housework, home repair and yardwork.
See, we work so much because we’re taxed to death, supporting lazy good for nothing sh!t headed deadbeats.
If The Powers That Be were truly, I mean really interested in the health and well-being of the public, they’d reduce the tax burden of working americans, cut spending, mind their own f-n business - and maybe, we could afford to have one of us work only part-time, or gosh, have a one-income house.
1/2 half the women at this California Corp where I work, are not just fat..they are horridly obese.. they are whales.
that is their decision, it isn’t mine. I’m 59 and fit. I work out.. but whatever..
and I guess it’s sort of a problem for all us, in a sense, due to whole notion of free healthcare for folks over 65... If we could get rid of that, then those folks can meld to their beds and living room chairs , for all I care.
If we lose this SCOTUS decision in June, and Obamacare stands...
then it is coming.. food will be regulated as a drug, fat will be forbidden from fast foods, regs will be coming down on all the fast food joints... soda will be gone..candy bars,gum, potato chips, etc.. will be regulated..

Food is the biggest addiction in this country with higher rates of addiction and abuse than cocaine or crack. Maybe we should start using drug war logic and throw the fatties in prison for their self destruction and general drag on society. The same rational for banning drugs is applicable here, afterall. We can even use businesses as a tool of enforcement and mandate weight limits and if your fat arse is overweight, you dont get the job. We cant have fatties in the transportation industry having heart attacks on the job. What if your bus driver has a diebeetus attack and crashes, injuring poor innocent children...
