During that case and similar weapons trafficking operations, ATF allowed thousands of weapons to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. The idea was to capture the "big fish" in a cartel.

There is ZERO evidence that any traditional police procedures were used to 'capture the big fish'. The guns had NO tracking devices... etc.

Does anyone know of anything done that would 'capture big fish'? Anything? This looks a lot more like someone was intentionally arming drug cartels...

..the object of the "operation" was never intended to be going after drug cartels...it was purely a propaganda tool going after gun dealers in the US, to gather info on how the gun trade was out of control....and needed tighter government intervention The months previous to the story blowing up, Holder and other anti-gun had the media publishing article after article of illegal gun sales going south......and the Mexican government was all a tether about the gun "trail" ..even though a lot of the guns were coming from other countries. Holder has a history of being "involved" when it comes to gun control. This was just another attempt that failed miserably and was so poorly planned and executed (Holder)it backfired and now needs major media participation in sweeping it away.

Lots of governments (probably all) down the centuries have allowed some of their people to keep and bear arms.

During the middle ages being armed was the distinguishing characteristic of a gentleman or “free man.” It’s why he was free, of course.

During the early modern period the various absolutist states allowed various classes of their people to be armed. In France this meant the Catholic aristocracy. In Poland it was the gentry. In Russia it was the nobles. This allowed these people to dominate the rest, desired since they were the people most likely to support the state.

After 1689 the British Bill of Rights allowed all Protestants to keep and bear arms “according to their class.”

Our 2nd Amendment was unique precisely because it recognized that this human right extended to all people, it was not just a privilege of certain groups.
