Democrats and Republicans: No, Both Parties Are Not the Same
The New American ^ | 11 June 2012 | Selwyn Duke

There is a certain tiresome message we’ve all heard: the notion that the Republican and Democratic parties are the same. It’s often put forth by people who consider themselves outside-the-box thinkers, and they fancy their point of view the enlightened one. Sometimes cynical George Carlin types, their message is, “Hey, I’m smart enough to know both parties are playin’ the game. Don’t try to fool me!”

This attitude was apparent in a few of the comments under a recent piece I wrote about liberal immorality. One respondent opined, for instance, “What still amazes [me] is that there has been definite documentation about the lack of morals that all politicians have. Neither side can claim to be exempt from this. Yet, there seems to be this arrogance among the right, that they can explain away any misgivings that a Republican does.”

Now, the first thing to mention here is that my article’s focus was on ideology — liberalism and conservatism — far more than party. However, since these ideologies are associated with, respectively, the Democrats and Republicans, whatever differences the ideologies breed will also manifest themselves in the parties to a great extent. More significantly, though, my piece was not mainly about politicians but liberals in general. This is significant because you can find a given fault in any group, but this doesn’t mean that it characterizes the group. So, sure, there are bad politicians everywhere, one in every bunch. But how do the rank-and-file react? Do they demand a degree of virtue from their leaders or only a degree of success? Let’s examine it.

The party elites are blending. Dems are worse but they both spend too much.

The problem with both parties is that they no longer fear God nor their constituents, so yes they are one and the same!

The Democrats are the party of Marxists, traitors and perverts. The Republicans are for the most part an assembly of ineffectual poseurs. They're not the same, but the Repubs are content to natter on impotently in the face of the corrosive evil being perpetrated by the Keft.

I meant "Left", of course.

You judge the Party by their base, using that standard no sane person could ever say they are the same, not even close!

No, the author is wide off the mark.

When Republicans behaved just like Democrats, (if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, ....) why is it wrong to call them out? Look closely, Republicans have not been practicing their ideology for how many decades now?

I don’t consider myself ‘outside-the-box thinker’ or ‘the enlightened one’. That attitude from the author is ‘tiresome’.

Once they get a taste of life inside the lines of separation become blurred. The two parties are like Pepsi and Coke: while they sometimes do battle with a special promotion they are happy to maintain their own market share and will work together to keep Dr. Pepper out of their house.

No, they are not the same.

The republicans have supported tyrannical, socialistic, Big Nanny Government only to the first or second power.

The democrats push for TOTAL tyrannical, socialistic, Big Nanny Government - and they have been winning the battle for more than 50 years.

Much of the republican success at the federal level can usually be traced to disgusted voters picking the least worst of two really bad options.

The democrat party cannot be saved - it is too far gone.

The republican party could be saved if they keep their oaths of office and would listen to voters, especially Tea Party and other conservatives.
But establishment republicans are fighting to keep out new blood and conservative idealism.
They would rather protect their position, perks, wealth and power than do what is right for America.

Without a miraculous change in direction both parties are both doomed and will soon both be history anyway - along with the rest of us.
Once they can no longer prop up the economy with borrowed money and fiat currency it will all come crashing down and the survivors will start anew.

I don’t buy the premise that the parties are the same any more than the one that Romney is just as bad as Obama. I’m no fan of Mitt Romney by a long shot, but he doesn’t believe a mixture of Marxist, socialist, and fascist ideologies like President Obama. Also, despite the fact that there are moderate Republicans who collude with the left, there are also some good conservatives. It’s pretty clear the conservatives are simply outnumbered. I remember Bush doing quite a bit of arm twisting in his own party to pass his “compassionate” agenda.

A perfect analogy.

Even intellectual Pygmies like the Obamas could grasp the concept presented that way.
