Man [child molester] Dives From [Golden Gate] Bridge To Elude Chasing Police

A convicted sex offender suspected of molesting a 4-year-old Sausalito boy led police on a wild car chase yesterday morning, zigzagging through oncoming traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge before stopping his car and leaping over the bridge railing.

The incident, which was caught on police videotape, is believed to be only the second time a fleeing suspect has deliberately jumped off the famous span to avoid capture. The first, in 1984, was a suspect in a savings and loan robbery.

The body of Brian Alexander Ward, 39, of San Francisco had not been located yesterday afternoon despite an intensive search in the choppy waters near the bridge, but he is presumed to be dead.

Ward, whose criminal record includes a conviction for assault and several peeping charges, allegedly molested the 4-year-old repeatedly over the past 1 1/2 years while working as a gardener for a Sausalito family.

Sausalito Police Chief Stephen Willis said the boy had told his parents on April 20 that Ward had been touching his "private parts." A subsequent investigation determined that Ward had forced the boy to perform oral sex in the backyard while Ward was doing yard work.

7/6/12: Transportation bill makes Golden Gate Bridge suicide barrier eligible for federal dollars

Backers of a suicide barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge got a boost Friday when President Obama signed a transportation bill that includes language allowing federal funds to flow to the project.

The new transportation bill contains crucial wording allowing funding for suicide prevention including safety rails and nets on bridges, said officials for the Sausalito-based Bridge Rail Foundation. The language in the bill also clarifies that institutions such as the Golden Gate Bridge District — a special purpose district — are eligible for these funds.

"Up until now these types of districts couldn't get this funding," said Ken Holmes of Novato, former Marin County coroner and a member of the foundation's board, who has pushed for a barrier for years. "The Bridge Rail Foundation has been working in Washington to get this language. We are really excited."

It was Sen. Barbara Boxer who agreed to carry the language in the bill, according to the rail foundation.

If only he were permitted to become a Boy Scout troop leader, none of this would ever have happened. < /sarc >

Trivia tidbit: Most Golden Gate jumpers go over the side facing the city.

Very few jump off the Pacific side. Unless they are going at sunset, I figure they are the worst of the losers and they must have simply been lost.

"He just happened to come from a different direction than he normally came from," Willis said. "He arrived early and spotted two of the patrol vehicles."
Sounds like massive police incompetence hidden in that innocently-worded explanation.

Transportation bill makes Golden Gate Bridge suicide barrier eligible for federal dollars

For many years money hasn't been the issue. The thing stopping construction of suicide barries is citizens who would rather have people jump than have their view ruined by the barriers. Tough to argue with that. They even had one politician make the case that if people weren't allowed to jump off of the bridge they would jump off high buildings instead, landing on and killing innocent passers-by.

IF he is dead, the manner in which he killed himself was the easy way out.

At least jumpers cannot be used as ammo for victim-disarmament laws.

I wonder if this idea could be used by the advocates of euthanasia? That is, make it legal to assist child molesters in ending their lives?

Don’t know how long the dive is, but let’s hope the prev had extra time to reflect on his shite life while looking at the water until the time he smacked the water at terminal velocity just in time to feed the gulls.

Trivia tidbit: Most Golden Gate jumpers go over the side facing the city.

That's because they're already on that side. If they crossed the street they might get hit by a truck.

"... For many years money hasn't been the issue. The thing stopping construction of suicide barries is citizens who would rather have people jump than have their view ruined by the barriers. Tough to argue with that."

Exactly. Suicide barriers on bridges don't prevent anyone intent on killing themselves from drinking a jug of Prestone® anti-freeze or blowing out the pilot light and putting their head in the oven.

All an expensive bridge barrier does is momentarily discourage the suicidal exhibitionists who want to say to the world:

"HEY EVERYONE! LOOK AT MEEEEE
                              EEE
                                EE
                                  E
                                    e
                                     e
                                      e
                                      e
                                      e
                                      e
                                      e
                                      e
                                      e
                                      !
                                      !
                                      !
                                 (*Ka-POW!*)
                                  (*splash*)
Either way, better than someone using a gun to kill themselves so the liberals can't include suicides by firearm as 'firearm homicides' to further their agenda.
