I jump on every opportunity to respectfully challenge my 84-year-old black dad's loyalty to Obama. Dad has been a Christian pastor over 50 years. He lives in Maryland, and I live in Florida. I called Dad to ask if he participated in Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. He said no, he had not heard about it. Then, he added, "All I know is Chick-fil-A discriminates against gays."
Folks, I was outraged. Struggling to keep my composure, I passionately said, "Dad, that is a lie! You have got to stop getting your news from the mainstream media!"
I went on to explain to my dad what the protest and appreciation day were really about. Dad was shocked. He does not support same-sex marriage, and he was pretty grossed out when I told him that in retaliation homosexuals have planned a "kiss-in" at Chick-fil-A restaurants.
I also took the occasion to inform Dad that black pastors across America have organized to protest Obama's support of same-sex marriage. Again, Dad knew nothing about the black pastors' protest.
At my local Chick-fil-A restaurant, Mavis and I were the only blacks there in support of the protest, amongst hundreds of white Christians and Tea Party patriots.
So what is going on? Why is the truth not getting to a majority of black Americans? I fault a majority of black media outlets and the mainstream media.
For the most part, conservative talk radio is a white thing. Even black conservative radio talk show hosts have a mostly white following.
How do we get the truth to black America? Since I am writing about this problem, one might assume I have a solution. Well, I do not, and it frustrates me.

Since his dad is a pastor, he needs to start giving his dad references from the other black pastors that have come out against Obama’s stand on gay marriage.
If the republicans really wanted to shoot across Obama’s bow, they would get a black pastor to come speak at their convention.
You might be surprised at how many white people are just as clueless as the black people. And I think is it because they only get their news from one place...NBC,CBS,ABC or their local newspaper. When you read other forums, more conservative ones, you can really see the bias of the major networks. I gasp sometimes at what/how they report stories.
Sorry I don’t have an answer as to how to reach these people other than one at a time when the opportunity arises.
I hate to say this...but our naive nature....sometimes clinging to some “gossip” that pretends to be news that comes out of ABC or CBS, or CNN...makes us into zombies.
You have to sit down...read through independent news sources, and eventually come to a position on just about everything now. You can’t trust the nightly news folks. Same for Time and NewsWeak....same for the Washington Post and New York Times. This is asking a lot out of people....thinking and grasping at things that are generally beyond their neighborhood or their normal lives.
I don’t really know what the solution is to educating older black (or white) Dems. They honestly think their party is on the side of virtue and they never examine anything that the party says - or doesn’t say, but which is understood.
A big part of this is because older people of any color listen to the MSM with much more dedication than younger people, and since older people vote, the MSM (even though it is populated by much younger Dems) has a lot of clout among the unreflective Dem voters.
Maybe encourage Fox to try to stay at least a little to the right and encourage them to get their news from Fox instead of CNN?
The MSM almost ignored the probably millions of people who turned out on Weds. to support freedom of speech, but had so many reporters at various locations to watch the “gay kiss-in” that the police had to be called. So people who get their news from this source are going to get a very distorted view and will be very hard to deal with. Maybe they’ll all have to be one-on-one, like Lloyd Marcus’ dad.
He talks real nice, but he never delivers.
Vince, that is a fantastic idea. I will go to our local GOP branch and suggest that very same thing.
The guy doesn’t sound like he was much of a pastor.
I heard a radio interview with Allen West a few days ago, on Howie Carr’s (Boston) show. Every caller was supportive and appreciative of West until the very end. A maniacal individual named Dave, who has called other shows, a one-trick pony is a way to describe his antics, used words and phrases such as “buffoon” and “99% of blacks think you are a joke.” West, unaware of the guy who is black, called him “a typical white liberal progressive...” Dems despise seeing a person of color strong and to the right.

Being an American is far better than being an African-American. Does not matter what you look like, choose being an American, you will be amongst friends.
Hey RummyChick, there were a number of black folks at the CFA I went to on Wednesday evening.
I don’t count, I hate that, but there was more than I expected and most were Husband & Wife with a couple of kids.
One older couple was there with a couple of grand kids. They were near the end of the inside line when me and my two year old grand kid got there. The kids spent more than a few minutes as the line moved making those cut up faces at each other. Little kids can have the darndest good time and get oh so tickled making faces at each other.
Bodies freed, minds still enslaved.
Taught by the masters that all who are truly free are the Enemy, either because they are “white”, or because they have sucked up to “white”.
This kind of slavery cannot be solved by proclamations or even civil wars. Each individual must first desire freedom, then be willing to sacrifice the false security of slavery (”do as you’re told, and you will be fed, housed and clothed”), and fight a civil war of the mind.
Most, I fear, will never do this. Many would be horrified at the thought, or call me racist for suggesting it.
Alas...whoever it was that said Blacks were “bred to servitude, and suited to no other station” was nearly right. His errors were (1) imputing that to the whole, and (2) excluding “whites” and others who, whether from fear or sloth, would gladly accept the security of chains. There are such in my own family.
Maybe what is needed is a new black media outlet. Something like a black FOX network. (BloX, or BX perhaps?) I hear Murdoch is putting up a new spanish language latino channel, will it lean conservative?
“The guy doesnt sound like he was much of a pastor.”
Jesus Christ said “I am the Truth”, and someone leading a Christian church must have a passion for truth to be effective.
With relatives we have to keep enlightening them with what is really going on.
Show them proof. Dare them to investigate rather than take a socialist word.
“Why is the truth not getting to a majority of black Americans?”
Because race pimps like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are seen as leaders of the Black community instead of men like Allen Keys, Allen West, and Jesse Peterson.
