The federal government, specifically the Department of Homeland Security, is buying up huge amounts of ammunition and there seems to be no end in sight. Again, this is nothing new as the DHS has refused to explain their purchase of 450 million hollow points and has ordered "up to" 650-750 million rounds of ammo and also seems to be looking for more weapons as well.

In late October, when Obama’s campaign advisers give him the bad news that he’s going to lose in an historic landslide, the govt. will need lots of ammo, once the people are told that the election will be suspended.
probably buying it to keep citizens from having access
How many DHS employees have actually been involved in shooting?
I guess they spend most of their time at the range getting ready.
As I have seen on several of the Prepper threads and I roughly paraphrase:
When the SHTF, I’ll know where to go to get some ammunition.
I’m not sure if I should add a “/s” to that.
Oh sorry, there will be elections, just one party to vote for.

this is an amendment to that original April solicitation for leaded target ammo, per the title.
FLETC - Federal law enforcement training center.
Not *sure* this is worth the hoopla. Just not sure.
There wasn’t a legitimately explainable explanation of purchasing 450 million rounds of 9mm hollow point ammunition, let alone and additional 750 million, to boot!
We are looking at a non-military agency, supposedly chartered to protect us from terrorist from without, acquiring over a billion rounds of ammunition! What we are looking at is a three-round burst for each and every citizen in this country if it comes to that.
If that doesn’t make you crap your pants, I don’t know what else would.
DHS is soaking up supply.
They are neither staffed nor chartered to make use of this demand.
Excellent line item for budget cut....along with current management staff.
They can’t ‘soak up’ what’s already been bought.
They gotta deal with those millions of domestic terrorists, don’tcha know.
There is no way this ammunition could even be used ... and that's with every federal employee firing a thousand rounds a day.
This is merely a round-about method of gun control by making the ammo scarce, expensive, and thus harder for civilians to obtain.
Have you seen the new stuff they are buying? A Freeper here took pictures of a bunch of Black armored DHS SUVs transiting to somewhere on a railroad....
Are you saying the government is buying up the same ammunition (lead cored) that they want to ban?
Just reading the title of the solicitation. Might be materially different on the inside.
They are driving the cost to us up and when they don’t use them will just destroy them and not even allow citizens whose tax money bought the stuff to purchase the surplus. When democraps runt he government, this is the sort of arrogant crap that results.
Don’t forget, there are probably ‘volunteer’ staffers...from Acorn and the New Black Panthers...
I’m not too worried.
Gov’t doesn’t have the staff to put behind that supply.
Free Americans do....and “they” are sufficiently dispersed, so as to be impossible to manage.
The “staff” they “think” they have, aren’t sympathetic to “their” cause.
They are trying to help Obama win "Gun Salesman Of The Year Award" again.
Same here. I did notice a line item requirement for matched .308 - i.e. sniper ammo.
450mm + 750mm = 1,200mm / 310mm population = 3.87 rounds for each and every man, woman, & child in the country.
Those “voluteers” are seriously out matched by you and me.
The rest of the time is spent driving around in their 4 wheel drive 60,000 dollar SUVs looking for terrorists or donut shops.
and some of those black SUV with individuals with equipment marked TSA had people stopped in Carrollton, GA last week. This is West Georgia and a very conservative area.
Boy, am I glad I handload everything I shoot.
Just read this again.
1.QUESTION - CLIN 0003, Page 2: Would a 223 Rem 64 Grain soft point round be acceptable?
ANSWER - Yes, that would be acceptable.
2.QUESTION - CLIN 0003, Page 2: Would a 5.56 X 45 NATO 62 g JHP round be acceptable?
ANSWER - No. NATO rounds are not interchangeable
with SAAMI specifications identified in the
Statement of Work (SOW) paragraph 2.2, page 48.
So, what gun are they using. A weapon using 5.56 will chamber .223 but, not the other way around.
And look at the dates at the end. This is a FIVE year order. Don’t know what to make of that.
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you need to threaten to report me to the Admin if I dont add you to the list...
peeing against the tide...
no match against the citizens...
I certainly hope so...their actions in acquistion speak otherwise, though.
Wow. I want to go play where they get to play!
Keep in mind, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have already been proving they are progressives. And look at Petraeus pushing for gay rights in the military. These are all Obama selections. So just what do you think is the ideology and partisan mindset of the DHS staff?? They have been trying to claim conservatives are “terrorists” from the get-go of this administration. And now, thanks to the progressive RINOs, he can arrest and detain anyone who is for the constitution...without habeus corpus rights.
Most of those citizens will do nothing.
“the govt. will need lots of ammo, once the people are told that the election will be suspended”
You seriously think any manfuacturer can produce 750,000,000 in three months?
This and the S. Carolina scenario, that Ret. Army Col. dreamt up, are intended to be pacifying showcases.
They don’t understand the American people.
One way or the other, It seems...
Actual RFP appears to be here:
5MB, 91 pages.
They’re looking for a little of everything, from .223 to .30-’06, 12GA, various pistol rounds.
Troubling, but top quality ammo does not a sniper make.
“Most” is 51%.
“They” staff less than 1%
So if 10% of us stand up....that’s enough.
Let’s split the deference, we keep the brass and we give you the lead? ;-)
They’re looking for about ten different cartridges ... spread among the various assembly lines, they might get close.
This looks to me as if they are just using up manufacturing capacity trying to increase the cost of ammo to civilians.
Not sure how this will affect prices.
