Social Security Administration stocking up on Ammo!
FBO.gov ^ | 8/15/2012 | Me

Posted on 08/15/2012 10:01:08 AM PDT by JohnKinAK

DHS is stockpiling almost 1.5 billion rounds, then the National Weather Service and now the Social Security Administration is buying on short notice 174,000 rounds. You'd think DHS would have enough for everybody, but I suppose you're not a real federal agency unless you have SWAT teams, ammo stockpiles and regular practice taking on the American people.

My wife had an appointment at the local Social Security office a month ago. She said the experience was like entering an armed camp or something out of the Gestapo. We were wondering what they were protecting. Also, she felt really out of place, since she was the only person going through the security gauntlet who was born in the U.S. and spoke English as her first language.

all federal buildings do nowadays. I was outside the fed building taking pictures of the flags for a motion assignment and the security guard came out to watch me. Like any idiot who wanted to take a picture of a fed building couldn’t use a telefoto lense from the next block away or use their cell phone???? Give me a break.

I called our Representative yesterday and had them check on this. They called back to say it was a “clerical error” and the NOAA had not ordered any.

Does anyone remember in Obama’s first speech about his plans for America he described a “youth force” as strong and as well equipped as the armed services? I can't think of any other department needing hollow points. He must be moving his plan right along.

My experience at the Social Security office in southeast Missouri reminded me more of an old fasioned bank rather than an armed camp. (I haven’t seen an armed guard in a bank here for a long time). A pleasant older man, in uniform and carrying a pistol asked me my business and directed me to a computer screen so I could start my appointment. When my name was called I was sent back for my interview which reminded me of those prison visit scenes with the worker on one side of the glass and me seated on the other—at least there was no phone involved.

It did strike me as an awful lot of security for a place that isn’t handling cash or really anything of value. Have there been lots of cases of geezers going berserk at Social Security offices?

I will say that contrary to my expectations, everyone was very pleasant, and very helpful. (and everyone spoke English!)

Within the last 30 days:

SSA 174,000 rounds
DHS 750,000 rounds (not clear if this is in addition to or an increase of the existing 450,000 order)
NOAA 46,000 rounds
DHS 700 lbs RDX, half a ton of ammonium nitrate and Prima Sheet
DHS 450,000 rounds (plus a BUNCH of riot gear)

When The Once cuts off welfare payments the week before the election, they're gonna need 'em.

What I would like to know is the history of fire arms/ammo buying over say the last ten to fifteen years of all these agencies.

I saw it posited on another forum that they are buying all this ammo to keep it out of the hands of the rabble. 0kaka wants gun control but all gun control laws get shot down, and with an R controlled Congress they’ll never get voted. I did see noise of banning internet ammo sales but that would have to be voted on too, I assume.

So therefore the easist way to keep ammo out of OUR hands is for Uncle to buy it all.

Pinging TMG for his take. Since what the heck do I know.

In fact most of the DHS is made up of desk pilots.

DHS claims it's making the purchase for a bunch of folks.
...all the agencies under their umbrella, including state and local police forces...

Like I stated there, it's good to see such a public admission that those forces are in fact now de facto Federal organs after all.

Who buys supplies for somebody outside of their department/company?

15,000 rounds of .357 JHP to Manchester, NH Social Security Office? What is so special about Manchester that they got 5K more rounds than Seattle or LA?
