A sub-3 hour mile is really fast. How could he not know he was claiming a near miraculous feat?

I'm sorta crippled up and I can make a mile in about 30 minutes. 20 minutes if I have my flight line boots on. WTF is the writer talking about?

That’s it, he “lied” about his marathon time that he ran over 20 years ago — I am voting for Obama!!! (/SARC)

“Ryan, through a spokesman, responded that he’d just mixed things up: “The race was more than 20 years ago, but my brother Tobin—who ran Boston last year - reminds me that he is the owner of the fastest marathon in the family and has never himself ran a sub-three. If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three. He gave me a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight.”

The original commentary was, frankly, a goofy joking conversation. No one took him seriously at the time.

Probably because it is inconsequential and people asking things like that are like flies buzzing around. I show dogs. I forget their proper exact registered names sometimes. I forget which shows they finished at and how many it took them to finish etc. These ARE important things but I have more important things to store in my memory. I cannot believe that anyone really cares about this. Unless they are just looking for a gotcha. I hope the rest of America is as sick of this stuff as I am.

He should say it was a composite marathon - like Obama’s life story.

“So the media is investigating Ryan’s marathon times?”

And don’t forget Mitt, the demon barber of whatever school that was.

This shows how deep they will delve into the records of Republicans, while overlooking the dirt on dems that is right in front of their faces.

The MSM has abandoned it’s constitutionally mandated mission to inform the electorate. It’s a wholly owned subsidiary of the Left and I hope to see it completely destroyed in my lifetime.

But running a marathon in less than 3 hours is a real feat. There’s a big difference between 3 and 4 hours. It’s like something Al Gore would claim.

the constimatushion assumes that truth tellers will stand up and exercise their press to the good. when you have monopolies controlling the easiest media to peruse, that all goes galley west.

sounds like somebody misspoke themselves, somewhere. yes, three hours would be upward of 8 mph for 26 mile marathons.

The original commentary was, frankly, a goofy joking conversation. No one took him seriously at the time.

Hewitt took him seriously. I heard the interview and the follow up. Several serious marathoners called in and explained what a fast time that is and what kind of training it takes to get to that level. It sounded like you can be a top-flight marathoner or you can have an alternate life, but not both. Especially when your life is in politics. The callers sounded pretty skeptical, but Hugh didn't seem to catch that. He just thought, damn, an ideal conservative candidate and an all-American athlete to boot.

You obviously don’t run. People who run races competitively will never forget their best time. Well, they may forget the exact seconds, but they will not forget the minutes. I can tell you my best 10k time. 42 minutes and approx 15 seconds. give or take 2 or 3 seconds.

Now, given that he hasn’t run in 20 years I could give him a pass on missing it by as much as a minute. If he misses it by more than that he’s just plain making things up.
